The sense that I get from Emmett is that he is what he is - nothing more nothing less. I used to "fear" Emmett, as if he was the one CUllen to really worry about, but it turns out that falls to Jasper. Emmett come out like the big brother - or even the crazy uncle - who says whatever he wants to say because that's just who he is and you can take it or leave it. I think, were he not a vampire - he'd be a big cuddly bear. No pun intended.

Well that's what I was trying to say! or trying to think... He's really like big brother! cool one

"It's a pity food is wasted on vampires. Emmett seem to be the epitome of pizza, beer, and chips while watching football."

Seeing a bit more of him in New Moon would be a treat.
I see Emmett as the comic relief of the Cullens. The rest of them kind of remind me of those one families that are so quite, reserved, and removed from the time period and I think Emmett is their real connection with the present. He keeps them from being completely unapprochable.

I like Emmett. He seems good natured, the gentle giant until provoked.
Yes I was thinking that too! He WOULD be epitome of those things really! lol It's so fun to think about that. Yea I think he is the comic relief among the family until, like you said, he is provoked. Don't poke the bear! lol Ok sorry about the lame joke....

Emmett
Emmett scared me at first. He reminded me of The Hulk or some buff and intimidating wrestler who's too strong for his own good. But he's actually a big teddy bear, isn't he? He's surprisingly kind and peaceful towards Bella (and seems to find her normal human reactions outrageously amusing) which is saying a lot, considering he's a vampire and Bella's supposed to smell good, not only to Edward.
I like his strong personality.

If Emmett was human, in this day and age, I figure he would be the typical jock...American football, weight lifting, having game parties on Saturdays, Super Bowl Sundays, etc.
