Robert Pattinson as Edward (Take 2)

Discussion about the Twilight movie. It's all speculation until Summit Films actually produces a script and casts it.

Robert Pattinson as Edward (Take 2)

Post by Cocoa » Fri Jan 18, 2008 9:21 am

Summit Entertainment announced that Robert Pattinson, an actor from the UK, has been cast as Edward Cullen.

Stephenie Meyer's thoughts on the casting of Edward

Robert Pattinson is best known as Cedric Diggory from the Goblet of Fire which I'm sure almost everyone has seen.

Fun Facts:

-He plays the Piano and Guitar
-Robert has also read the books.
-He has an excellent American accent
-Robert and Kristen reportedly have excellent screen chemestry

Robert has done several other projects, but they are not currently available on DVD that are compatible in USA players.

Robert's Film Clips:

Vanity Fair
The Haunted Airman 1 / Clip 2 / Clip 3 / Clip 4 / Clip 5 / Clip 6
The Summer House
The Bad Mother's Handbook Clip 1 / Clip 2 / Clip 3
Ring of the Nibelungs

His most current films include Little Ashes, which just finished shooting, where Robert portrays the world famous artist Salvador Dali. Movie slated for release in 2009. And How to Be, also in the lead role. Movie release Slamdance filmfestival Sundance, Utah January 18, 2008.

Please bear in mind that no one will ever live up to your vision of Edward.
Stephenie Meyer wrote:No human actor is pretty enough to really pull off a vampire. What we are hoping for here is that magical element of screen charisma that makes all the difference in the world. Example: Pirates of the Carribean. Were you drooling over pretty Orlando? I wasn't. I was taken with the drunk pirate in the eyeliner. Some actors can own any scene they're in. Let's not focus so much on the perfect face (which no one is going to be happy with regardless); let's hope for an inebriated pirate. I.e. someone who can own a scene like Johnny or Joaquin or Jonathan Rhys, someone who will make us forget he's not quite pretty enough to be a vampire.

Here's my wish: that, after we find out who is going to play Edward, my comments page is not awash with "I can't believe they picked HIM!"-s and "John Doe is the real Edward and no one else can do it!"-s and "I hate him! I want him to die!"-s. Can we give him a chance to become Edward? Can we let him try to convince us? I'm keeping my mind open.

I've reached a new low in my obsession, guys. I like Robert but I wouldn't say I'm too obsessed with him yet (I need to see the movie first). However, I was in the dollar store today and they had Harry Potter: GoF Valentine's Day things for kids (those little cardboard things kids pass around in elementary school) and I bought it because it had Robert as Cedric on one of them that says "Hope Your Valentine's Day is Enchanted". I'll scan a pic of it if you'd like to see.

In the earlier thread people worried about his accent. I am sure he will be able to hide it, however, as i was reading the extras on SM's website I found something interesting in the Being Jacob Black excerpt.

When Jacob answers the phone and it's Edward "you hear the clear ringing tone of the voice with a soft English accent, and you know who it is within the first word."

So maybe if Robert's American accent slips a bit and sounds too proper it will work =) Anyway i thought That was interesting!

I am so excited about the movie!

He was imitating Carlisle that is why he had the accent there.

On Stephenie's site, it said somewhere that Robert has a really good American accent so I don't think we're going to have a problem with that part.

i think he's going to be great in the role, i just really hope they keep the eyes right... i don't understand how people can say he doesn't look like edward, i mean, everyone's got their own idealized picture of edward in their head, so he's not going to perfectly match everyone's expectations... but i'm sure it'll be a great movie!

I watched Vanity Fair today in hopes that I would see RPATTZ (sorry I just have to use that now, thanks to geeky graphics) before I realized that he wasn't actually in the movie, just in the deleted scenes. But then I watched that so it was all good. And now I'm definitely convinced that he'll be an awesome Edward. Or maybe it was the RPATTZ that did it. That is quite possible as well.
