ok, I agree with everyone about how a B jessica can be

(i cringed when i typed that cause i'm a jessica too. that girl makes 'jessica' a B's name  )

but on the other hand, i think it makes the series more 'colourful' that there's a character like her.

I mean, what with all the vampire-werewolf stuff going on, it's nice to see that bella's human friends aren't 'monotone', you know?

I mean they're not there just for convinient's(sp?) sake but they each have they're own opinion on bella, I guess.
"Would you please stop trying to take you clothes off?"Edward
"Why, do you want to do that?", asked Bella, CONFUSED

oh, Bella. You're too innocent to be seductive.
which is why this quote gets me every time

I got the impression that Edward meant Jessica never thought deeply about anything. I've always enjoyed this quote:

Great people talk about ideas.
Average people talk about things.
Small people talk about other people.

Jessica definately fit into the "small people" category. She didn't know what an epiphany was, much less think about an idea long enough to have one!

I agree with emina88 that it's important to have all types of characters in the story--and many of you have said how much Jessica reminds you of people you know.

Okay, I just got to say that I love this quote. I think it really shows what sort of people are around you

well, back to twilight, i do think that jessica is the typical 'mean girl' in high school. or maybe lauren? yeah, i definitely think that lauren's the mean girl and jessica is just the typical 'sidekick' of the mean girl

Speak the truth!!

i actually didn't mind Jess, but after reading MS, i swear that i kmnow hate her to the core!

But i think that Bella always knew, ya know? like SM was telling us (between the lines) "that girl is bad business". I think that's why very few people are especiallly fond of Jessica...

<center> I actually like Jessica
<center> I like how typical she is, and yet she's kind of an interesting character
<center> I think she kind of represents how blissfully unaware the humans in Forks are
<center> She's worried about boys, and dances and shopping
<center>Completely trivial problems when you compare them to those of Bella's
<center> Yet, the way she carries herself makes her life seem so much more dramatic and exciting than Bella's
<center>I guess she's kind of a drama queen is what I'm saying
<center> She has a lot of personality, which keeps things interesting
<center> Actually, I find her a lot more interesting compared to Bella who tends be kind of predictable
</center>
<center> Bella was born 35 and gets more middle aged each year (as her mother says)
<center> Edward is 107
<center> Jessica is a typical teenage girl

<center>That's the way she should be.
[size=75]<center>"I am switzerland. I refuse to be affected by territorial disputes between mythical creatures"</center>

<center>I love them both</center>

I really agree with you. I mean, Bella is completely unordinary. I think that Jessica to supposed to be a representation of the teenage girl. Because Forks is so small, she's the cheerleader, she's the gossip queen, she's a teenage girl. As much as I wouldn't like to admit, I have some qualities that Jessica has. I can be shallow. I'm sure a lot of people have been similar to her at some point in their lives, and I really hate it that everyone is convinced she's a horrible person. As compared to the Cullen's, yes, she's not perfect. There has to be some good in her though, if Angela was friends with her before Bella came around. I can't see Angela being friends with just anyone.

I'm not sure Angela was Jessica's "friend." They were at least acquaintances in a small school, but I'm not sure they were actually friends. Angela was polite--as always--but I'm not sure she sought out Jessica's company.

I kind of liked her in Twilight but after I read New Moon I hated her. I thought it was really stupid that she was holding a grudge against Bella even though Bella was struggling to live without Edward. It's like "Wow, you're a great friend."

i totally agree. with all the supernatural extra ordinary things going on in the small town of forks, it's nice to see that SM put some ordinary life in there to put us in basis that this is still in the real world and not in some other far of place

besides i think it's just balancing out, you know? extra ordinary can mix in the ordinary vise versa

and i think jessica being jessica helps puts us in that perspective.
same thing goes for charlie's relationship with bella (you know, the sometime akward, father-daughter thing)

Completely, yes, yes, yes! As the books have progessed, we've had less and less 'school time' at Forks. With the small amount of human characters included, Stephenie needed to fill some stereotypes so that it would see like normal teenage life. Thus Jessica & Lauren are the gossip queens, Mike & Tyler are the jocks, Erik is the nerd, Angela is the loyal friend, etc...
