One way I think Bella coming to live with Charlie changed his life is for the first time since she was eleven years old he could "show off" his daughter. From the pictures of Bella that Charlie displayed in his home, it's obvious that he loved her, but now he had an opportunity to introduce (in some cases to reintroduce her) to his friends and acquaintances. It's emotionally satisfying to share the things that make us happy; I think Bella living with Charlie was a great emotional boost for him.

(Of course, she didn't go to any office parties or anything, but she was seen around town.)

My dad is laid back, way more then Charlie, but he still gives me 20 questions when I metion a boys name, but then I went to the movies with two guys I like and sat between them... my dad's response... did you kiss them?? No dad!!! lol
okay, just veering completely off topic for a moment, but xMoonlightxTragedyx, do you like RENT?!? because i totally heart RENT. it's my favourite thing ever after twilight...and ugly betty.

and i think i'm like bella in that I'm totally embarassed to talk to my dad about anything boys. when i'm on the phone talking to a guy friend, or my boyfriend even, my dad will come up to me and be like "are you talking about boys?" and i'll say "nooo...i'm talking TO one."

but i think ALL dads are like that. SM has really created a realistic character in Charlie. Who I like because we share a name (!!!)

<center>QUESTION:
<center> I never really got why Bella moved to the Forks if she loved Phoenix
<center> And missed her mom
<center> And hated the constant rain and green
<center>...why did she even bother?

<center>...not to say i'm not glad she did, a world without Edward would probably kill me.

Bella was being unselfish: her mother was a newlywed who wanted to go with her husband when he traveled. Bella put her mother's happiness before her own--and went to stay with her father so her mother would not feel guilty about leaving Bella on her own all the time.

Renee and Charlie are so lucky they ended up with Bella for a daughter. She made their lives easier (except when she insisted on vacations with Charlie in California instead of Forks!), and gave them very little trouble (until she met Edward!).

I love Charlie and how protective he is of Bella. He really is a great dad even though sometimes it seems to be hard for him. It upsets me that Bella talks about how she knows that Charlie wasn't ever really over Renee, it must be hard to be alone like that for all those years. I can't wait to see Charlie at the wedding!

yeah, he is a great dad, even though he's not used to it. being alone for all those years before bella moved in

speaking of the wedding, how do you think charlie and renee and phil are going to interact with each other at the wedding?

i imagine it being a little akward(sp?) for those 3
"Would you please stop trying to take you clothes off?"Edward
"Why, do you want to do that?", asked Bella, CONFUSED

oh, Bella. You're too innocent to be seductive.
which is why this quote gets me every time

I think Charlie and Renee are pretty good friends. No animosity. I believe I read somewhere that Phil was not the first "boyfriend" that Renee had, and both Bella and Charlie were relieved that Phil was the one she ended up with. I don't have time to look for a source. Anyone?

Charlie's got to be like the coolest dad ever. He gives Bella a lot of space which i think is good for both of them. I love it how, even though Bella tries to keep her secrets, he still kind of knows somethings going on. Like when he had told Bella about how he felt like he was going lose her.. Charlie's not stupid, he gets it, and he knows its not his place to intrude? lol (NETSPEAK IS SO UNATTRACTIVE PLEASE FIX ME! that's just how i feel about it.) But i do also feel bad for him, and his sort of lonely life style.

Charlie does certainly enjoy "showing off" Bella but not really in a bad way. In one form or another, parents "show off" their children. It can be something as simple as saying their children's accomplishments to their friends and co-workers. Since Charlie really only saw Bella once a year for about 2 or 3 weeks before she moved in with him, he really didn't have that luxury and pride that comes with being a parent as much because he didn't really know what she was doing and if he did it just seemed so distant to him.

Exactly! :)

Even people who are usually happy to live alone enjoy being with those they love--especially their children--and neither Charlie nor Bella intrude on each other's "personal space."

So I wonder why Charlie is still alone. Maybe a) He never got over Renee and couldn't stomach another woman in his life, b) There weren't that many single women around Forks to get interested in, or c) a combination of a and b.

Or maybe life was more uncomplicated if he just went fishing! Charlie doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who appreciates the mystery and confusion of dealing with the opposite sex.
