does anyone else think she should have more power in the series? I know Stephenie says it's not a misogynic story because it's dealing with different species, i.e. vampires vs werewolves vs humans. But I want Bella to be less of a sideline person and more of the person in the game. I can't wait for Breaking Dawn where she might be a vampire and have powers. lol.

Yeah Bella should have more power in the books then maybe she wouldn't seem so weak to a lot of people.

I think Bella does have powers, just not normal ones. (Er... as normal as special powers can be.) She sees the good in people. She was able to become friends with a werewolf, fall in love with a vampire, and at this rate be best friends with a witch! (I'm really hoping Angela turns out to be a witch~)

She only seems weak because she's a young, scrawny woman. In all reality, I believe her to be unbelievably strong!

well.. if you put it that way, i think many people could do that, not just Bella... i was thinking of powers that are not necessarily supernatural. maybe she should be more smart-alecky kind of like the movie Juno.

I think Bella should become a stronger person by standing up for herself more. She should have more of the moments like when she argued with Edward over whether she should see Jake or not. Maybe then she won't seem so weak to other people.

well she should, but she shouldn't do it for other people you know? she should do it for her. i've said it before and i'll say it again, bella needs to become her own person. she needs to figure out what is her and say "hey. this is me. if it doesn't work for you, whatever." but she's so afraid of people being mad at her, and she blames herself for everything, which i think may be part of that. part of being a grown up is knowing when you've done wrong and admitting and apologizing for it, and part of it is knowing when other people messed up, and making them deal with it, so that people don't just walk all over you, you know? she's really not a very good role model for little girls right now....

Exactly.

Can I use a really crude expression? Please and thank you, mommy :). You can yell at me later if you want to.

What I was going to say is... Bella needs to grow some balls and be a man. If life sucks, get over it and rub some dirt in it (awwww. She's The Man. I love that movie), instead of whining and crying and panicking. Just buck up and deal with it. She needs to learn to stick up for herself. She needs to learn to stick up for the people she loves (she usually lets Edward/the Cullens say mean things about her wolf friends, and vice versa). She needs to grow up!!!!! She tends to let people walk all over her, and she worries so much about what other people are going to think and do. I'm not saying you should disregard other people's feelings and be selfish-- I'm saying that there is a point in which you need to be your own person. I don't like hurting other people either-- I always feel terrible if I do-- but that doesn't mean I falter and let people walk all over me. I care about other people, but I still defend and stick up for myself when I need to. I don't let people guilt or pressure me into doing things. And that's something Bella hasn't really mastered, as of yet... (IMO).

Bella does start yelling at Edward and Jacob a little for talking bad about each other but you're right she should stand up to everyone more. It is kind of difficult for her though because she's trying to decide between being human or being with Edward, seeing her family/friends/especially Jacob and staying with Edward and his family which she loves a lot. It would be a difficult decision for me I like change so I would probably get bored after a while.

aw megan no i will not yell at you for that one.

i think that bella needed to start "being a man" in new moon, with alice and jacob.

OH did the "be a man song" from mulan just pop into anyone else's head???

anyway, alice was very rude about jacob, and the wolves in general. it's the only time i've disliked alice. if bella had stood up to her and said now wait a minute, this boy has done everything for me that you and your brother didn't, and he deserves better than that, i think it would have started everything off at the right point. then, if she had told jacob that alice wasn't a terrible person, it would have helped. and finally, the biggest thing is edward. his reaction to hearing about jacob's part in her life was horribly unfair, and bella said nothing, and continued to say nothing for a long time.

all of this caused a lot of unpleasantness for everyone, and if she'd "been a man" and not been so afraid of edward being angry, she would have saved them that unpleasantness.

she manages to do this in eclipse with jacob, you know "AND I'M A VIRGO". my favorite line ever. but edward needed it to. and she wouldn't say it to edward because she's a great big 'fraidy cat.
