we, my dear, are most certainly good.

malaz, you know you can bring up anything you want, no matter how "old" it may be, as long as it's thoughful and respectful! 8)

holding.out.for.jacob wrote:wow ok, i'm almost afraid of getting "uhmed" by you malaz. remember, everyone interprets everything differently, so just because something's obvious to you, others might not interpret it the same way.

and speaking of these interpretations, i think we interpret maturity differently, and immaturity.

responsibility and maturity are totally different things. maturity is the ability to reason, to compromise, to make good decisions, to work things out, to compartmentalize and keep going when things are going badly, to stick it out, being your own person, so on and so forth.

bella has the ability to do things she needs to do, as in take care of charlie, do homework, so on and so forth. because she is responsible. but responsibility is only one small part of maturity.

immaturity/maturity is not your personality. so you don't have to be a jerk, uncaring, or any other negative personality traits at all.

being mature is a process. in order to be grown you have to grow. just like little kids are immature simply because they're little kids, people who have not grown cannot be fully considered mature. bella did not grow. bella has always been expected to be responsible. she was responsible for herself and her mother for a long time, and so she never got to "grow up" so she is missing some serious parts of maturity.
Oh, what's so scary about an 'uhm' hmm? I guess it means something bad over where you live or something (not to offend you) but I just don't understand. 'ahem' and 'uhm' are soooooooo different.

Exactly. We all interpret maturity and immaturity differenently. Guess that's why we can't come to an understanding with that.

There is a fine line of difference between responsibility and maturity like you said, and I see that. Defiantly. I just happen to think that Bella is mature, and you obviously can't see that because you have your own interpretations and thoughts and feelings towards Bella ^^. I don't think she's like Edward mature. She isn't. I am not sure'but I think, that you (and please verify for me) are only able to find a person either mature OR immature and there isn't a chance that they could be both at times.
I happen to find bella has a mature mind but with IMMATURE acts. Just because she does those so called 'immature' acts, she can't be mature. Is that what you're implying? I hope I don't offend you or anything. I just want to know.
And that sort of quiz thing to rate bella's maturity Esme Echo did. I seriously don't believe that could rate someone's maturity. Because maturity isn't based on 5 things. Maturity for me, is based by your actions, thoughts, your mind'but, uhh'it's really hard to explain. But maturity is sort of like mind development (obviously). I mean you could be 30 and be immature. Ex: like a guy that lives in his mom's basement, doesn't have a job, every night at a bar, has a new girlfriend everyday -- is that mature?? Even though his mind is developed. I call that immature, is what it is. What do you call it???
And yeah yeah, not only those actions can make you immature. But some of the things bella did, for ex: when alice came back in new moon and bella just ran into her arms (I don't blame her) and left Jacob hurt and angry. I don't call that immature. I call it uncaring. In a very very strong way.

Yeah, but can't she still be mature, even if she missed a few years of growing up because she was taking care of her mother, though??

meganj924 --
Edward is her destiny. It was said in the books. But in the end it's the WAY you want to see it. I am perfectly fine with that.
For me though.
Edward is her destiny, it was where Bella's life was headed no matter what. Jacob was what could've been her fate, but that fate has been overshadowed, interfered with. Because it was supposed to, because Edward was supposed to be with Bella, because it was the way things for Jacob, bella, and Edward was supposed to be. Edward IS supposed to be a vampire, bella and him WERE supposed to fall inlove. The way the story is, IT"S supposed to be like that. but that's just me though.

and no, i think Edward realized he can't hear bella's mind before he actually smelled her scent. not the other way around.

no, actaully. i meant that Bella is different, like her mind. . the thing most of us like about her is that she's the ordinary teenage girl. she isn't blonde, and tan. she isn't spoiled rich (before she met edward :D) she can be relatable to.

no, malaz. you totally misunderstood me.

first, it's not the word "umm" that scares me, i was making a joke, sort of pointing out your tone. you came off as looking like you thought the other people's opinions were stupid.

i am a very "gray area" person.

responsibility and maturity aren't the same thing, but responsibility is PART of maturity.

so bella is, at times, very mature, and that is when she is being "responsible".

i find her to be lacking many of the other parts of maturity, in fact, most other parts of maturity.

so, if i had to define her as a person who is immature or mature, i'd go with immature.

i believe that immaturity comes partially from your brain developing, and partially from life experience, but both come from "growing up". both are part of a process. bella missed half of that process, which explains a lot of her immaturity.

that example you provided, that person is, of course immature. i'm not really sure what your point is. but that person would have a fully developed brain, but, not enough life experience, for whatever reason. i think that was your point?

i wouldn't call that part of new moon immature either, i would call that uncaring. bella's actions don't display her maturity as much as her "inner voice" sort of.

yes, parts of her can still be mature - like her actions, her sense of responsibility - but it's more than just missing a few years of growing up. it's missing the oportunity to develop your own identity, to become an independent person, all of which happens during the teen years, which is while bella was taking care of her mom.

as far as destiny, i think edward is something beyond destiny, because i see jacob as the natural course her life would have taken, the story written in her "book" and then i see edward as sort of having "erased" that and rewritten it.

i think on the surface, bella was meant to be related to. but personally i can't relate to her at all, and i think most people i know feel that way as well. i can't imagine myself being that weak. but that's just me.

there's so much more to a person being "ordinary" than being blonde, tan, and spoiled rich. i think an ordinary girl is something very different than bella. and stronger.

greeneggs remember to be repectful to the other people in the forum.it's ok to disagree but point out your opininons and do it in a nice way.offending other people isn't going to prove a point.

anyhoo on bells
she does some things that i value her for, and she's a great girl.too self-centered-yes.obsessive-a bit.i felt really close to her in Eclipse her decisons might not have been the smartest but especially in the end when she was telling jake, well you know.that was hard to read

I love Bella`s character, she`s so easy to relate to because she`s so ordanary. This trait also makes you love her that much more. She is real, she`s not so dramatic all the time, she cares about the people she loves, and she`s so selfless it`s not funny. I absolutly love her character!

But I have to agree...why can`t some Vampire`s use their power`s on her? Why does she smell so irisistible? And like Aro, I am very interested to see what becomes of her when she is a Vampire. Yet another reason why I want breaking dawn.

Finally!! someone who actually likes Bella.. or at least who isn't saying how immature/selfish she is. I thot Bella was a very selfless person I mean ya she wanted to be around Edward a lot but it was her first relationship and who doesn't want to hang out with their boyfriend/girlfriend?
