In the next book I think Irina is going be just like Victoria.
Irina = new Victoria. *cringe**
But I doubt she could take on the Quileute pack.

I'm kind of pissed at Irina. I feel bad now that I know she loved Laurent but still he was killed for trying to kill somebody else. He deserved it. Not to mention that somebody else was pretty much Edward's mate. Does she know that he was killed by the wolves because they were protecting Bella? And how did she find out that he was killed by the werewolves?

I don't agree with Irina's decision, but I understand where it came from. Edward, if the situation was reversed, would want revenge against Bella's murderers, and I can't imagine too many people accusing Edward of overreacting in that case. I don't believe Irina loved Laurent anywhere near as much as Edward loves Bella, but still. Just think about it from her perspective. It doesn't really matter if Laurent was about to kill Bella because Laurent was the one she loved; she doesn't even know Bella, she only knows that the Cullens like Bella, so why in the world should she be expected to side with Bella? And remember that werewolves are the vampires mortal enemies, so Irina was probably incensed twice as much as she would've been if, say, a vampire killed Laurent. The Cullens are the ones with the treaty, not the Denali; who's to say that, just because their vegetarians, the Denali don't share the idea that werewolves should all be dead?

As for not joining the Cullens in the fight, well, don't you think Irina and the Denali expected Carlisle to understand why they wanted the werewolves to be dead and to allow it? Maybe the Denali think the Cullens betrayed them just as badly as they betrayed the Cullens, since the Cullens showed more loyalty to the werewolves than to their closest friends, the Denali? It's something to consider.

Ha, I realize I sound so pro-Denali in this post. I actually agree with the decision Carlisle made because murdering all the werewolves is so completely wrong; I'm just trying to look at the situation from both perspectives.

Seraphyn wrote:Personally I found it interesting that Irina was the one who wanted revenge against the pack for Laurent's death when Laurent only ever mentioned Tanya in New Moon.

I'm wondering what the dynamic there was that got Irina so attached to Laurent when it obviously wasn't a equal affection.
Nope -- he does mention Irina in New Moon. It's on page 239:

The question made him pause. "I like Tanya very much," he mnused. "And her sister Irina even more..."

Yes, he does say he likes Irina even more, but was he in love with her? That seems like an odd way to put being in love. And if they weren't in love, or Laurent wasn't in love, hasn't the Denali's relationship with the Cullens have more merit, since they have been friends longer?

And why would Irina, who is thousands of years old, and has been with thousands of men of all sorts I'm sure, fall for Laurent? I always thought those women didn't really keep men for that long...I don't know...

I hope this issue resurfaces in BD. Tasty drama. :P

Well, Laurent and Irina may feel differently about each other. She may have been a fling that he enjoyed while she thought it was something more. (' la Victoria and James.)

And just because she's been through a lot of guys doesn't mean she can't fall eventually. I just wish she had more better taste in men!

I think that maybe the Cullens told them what happened to Laurent. Or maybe Victoria...? I don't know :?

Hmm..
The Cullens couldn't have told Irina directly of Laurents death. If they had, then they'd know of her hating the werewolves. And if Carlisle had told Tanya this over the phone earlier, then I'm sure she'd told him of his involvement with Irina.
It could have been Victoria. Seems a bit unlikely and it means that she's been in friendly contact with the Denali coven. I don't like that possibility. Maybe Victoria found the ashes from Laurents body, when she possibly went searching for him, after him failing to meet her at a arranged place (after scouting out the Forks area). And then she informed Irina.
Either Victoria or some psychic link between Irina and Laurent. That sounds weird but we've seen vampires with weider powers.

I'm not sure, but maybe either Eleazar or Katrina's gift allowed him/her to find out what had happened to Laurent, and then he/she told the rest of the Denali?
