i actually think that's really sweet. it's not a way of apologizing to her, i think it's more a show of "hey i think you're beautiful even with these scars, so i'm going to kiss them first."

i have a lot of scars - i was born with a cleft lip/palate - on my face, and one on my hip, and i am very insecure about them, although i would never let any of my friends know. but one time a boy said to me "i don't think that makes you any more or less beautiful. i don't notice it. but when i do, i think, damn she's beautiful, and she's unique - and you don't find that often"

it was the best thing anyone had ever said to me.

so i think that sam kissing those scars is kind of the same thing to her, not an apology.

of course, though, he is going to feel guilty, and i don't fault him for that. at all.
