I guess I do feel bad for Riley. What the heck did he know? Victoria is such a.... Ugh!!! I feel so bad, she made him think that she actually loved him. Poor Riley.

All through that part of the book, I was going 'AWW'. I felt so bad for him! :? I was kind of disappointed that he didn't live, I think that if he did, he could have made a pretty good side character. Him and Bree would be cute, too. I would love to see some more about Riley, maybe a fanfiction or something about him.
"Neither heaven nor hell can keep me apart from you, Melanie." - Jared, The Host, page 84.

"There's something. . . Strange about the way you two are together," she murmured, her forehead creasing over her troubled eyes. "The way he watches you-- it's so.. protective. Like he's about to throw himself in front of a bullet to save you or something." - Renee, Eclipse, page 67.

You know, I don't know why...but Riley kind of reminded me of Jacob in some ways. Just the way he was so into Victoria, it reminded me of how Jacob was so into Bella. He did anything for her to make her feel better when Edward left...just like Riley was willing to do so much for Victoria.

I don't know...that's just a thought I had.

Really? I thought Riley kind of resembled Jasper in some ways...
Changed by a vampire with a serious vendetta, so that she could have a vampire war (in which Riley was kind of like second-in-command to Victoria, like Jasper had been to Maria)
And maybe if Victoria wasn't quite so manipulative, or if Riley had've been a little bit older and learnt to be a little more independant, maybe then things might have turned out differently.

I think he could've turned good, like Jasper did in the end of his vampire wars. He turned away from it, and found Alice and the rest of the Cullens...*sighs* it's a shame that Riley didn't get even the slightest of a happy ending, and he wasted his final breaths screaming out for Victoria, of all 'people'.

He made the Edward/Victoria/Seth fight interesting though, at least.

I think I'm on the complete opposite with everyone.

I didn't feel pity or sorrow for Riley at all. Sure, Victoria tricked him. Sure, he probably didn't WANT to be a vampire... but eh. I actually was glad that he died.

"Take that, you bum," were the exact words I said. :/ Probably because he was just a kind of "here-now-gone-later" character. I didn't feel attached. I just didn't care.

He is an idiot but Victoria was evil to use him. Victoria is cruel she didn't even look at him when he was about to die...all so sad :( I had tears in my eyes!

I thought that too actually. Riley loved Victoria while she just used him. Jake loved Bella, but he was just a good friend, her sunshine, she used him to cheer herself up.

It must have been so horrible for all of those newborns! I wonder how many there would have been if they didn't fight so much. I heard somewhere Stephenie Meyer might write a book in Bree's perspective, it would probably be similar to what Riley had to go through.

I felt sorry for Riley up until the part where he chooses not to believe Edward.

yeah I saw that too. It was almost like a "what Jasper could have been" type thing.

I also agree with y3nd0. I never really wished for him to live because for one, there'd be no Seth. But besides that I just saw him as a side character. No one to take note of. The same for Bree. I don't not like them I just didn't feel like they were characters that needed to make a reappearence.
