Ok, um, I handed it to her and said, "On behalf of some of the girls at the Twilight Lexicon, I'd like to give you this." She took it and went, "Poetry! I look forward to reading this!" and then she asked me for my Lex. name.
Uh...as soon as I get photobucket or whatnot I'll post it once I find out how-I'm so horribly computer graphics challenged...*sigh* :(
Unless of course, you guys PM your real e-mail addresses, because I know how to do that! But I'm going to be gone until the 29th, so it'll be awhile.
Sorry!

This thread is being rehabilitated into the Poets thread. Are you a poet? Discuss and post your poetry here.

Please do not quote the poems posted. Just refer to the poster and title. There is no need to quote them over and over again.

Thanks Cocoa - i think this is a great idea - us aspiring poets can discuss our inspirations and favourite poets as well as critiquing ( in a constructive and polite way) each others work!!

I personally am a Christina Rossetti and Emily dickinson nut - i'm adicted to their poetry! i love elizabeth barning brown as well

I'm determined to revive this thread even if it means inflicting my poetry on the unsuspecting public of the lex.

I think if we post a poem, give a little background to it, allow people to constructively critique it (POLITELY) and discuss each others ideas, poetic inspirations. poets we love, this thread will thrive

My poem is called eternity, basically background is that my mother was telling me of her youth about playing in this very old graveyard and coming across a frightful grave stone with this epitaph. this incription just stuck in my head and i worte this poem as a result.

*big gulp of air*

Here goes.

Eternity

Here stand I,

In grass filled fields,

Stones of grey scattered in orderly ways.

Grass and tress sigh to unheard songs,

As cracked grey turns to green,

Among these grievous walls.

Here stand I,

Where time freezes still,

Where centuries leap from there to here

Where all the journeys end in woe

And hope instilled comfort grows.

Here stand I,

In dread alone.

Before this loved ones stone.

Dream of touch and love which once warm

Now gone and lost for ever no more.

Epitaph is all of which remains

In these words she finally says:

'I am in eternity,

And you are on the way'

epona that is a beautiful poem! What a beautiful epitaph, too. My favorite lines were "Where all the journeys end in woe, And hope instilled comfort grows." I used to write good poetry, but I never seem to have the time anymore.

I grew up loving poetry. My mom introduced me to Shakespeare, Emily Dickenson, Robert Frost, Langston Hughes, and the Browings while I was still really young. When I was too young to understand the words and meanings I just loved to hear the rhythmn of her voice reading to me.

My dad loves poetry too... just a different kind. He could recite to us The Cremation of Sam McGee from heart. This one was always one of his favorites: http://www.quotesandpoem.com/poems/poet ... tion_21/15

Canzone e bella - thanks so much, you're very kind.

I love that poem, it put a smile on my face, it has such a pleasant sound when you read it out loud - and it even has a Rosalyn in it
Thanks for sharing. I find ti so hard to write humour in either prose or poetry and i always have huge admiration for those who do it properly.
