October is Scary Movie Month at my house. We watch one at least every few days. It's one of my husbands favorite genres and it used to be mine too until I started having kids...now I have to try really hard to like them.
A fun 'scary' movie I've liked since I was a kid was "Watcher in the Woods"
I haven't seen all of these but others we have are:
The Abyss
Blade Trinity
Eight Legged Freaks
The Grudge
Jaws
The People Under the Stairs
The Sixth Sense
Stir of Echoes
Tremors
Van Helsing
War of the Worlds
What Lies Beneath
Shaun of the Dead

I love horror movies, much to my friend's amazement and I find the best ones are usually the ones without the all the gore.
Music make a horror movie though, it's true if you watch one without it it's not scary. When the music stops all together then it's usually time to close your eyes though.
I love films like 'The 6th Sense' and 'The Shining'. '13 ghosts' and 'House on haunted hill' are great too.
Ugh, there's too many, I have yet to find one that really gets me scared though. *The Ultimate horror movie* -sigh- still searching the shelves in the video store.

I'm the same, there have been movies that made me jump but none that really scared me so much I couldn't sleep at night... I'm open to recommendations.Nods and Smiles wrote: Ugh, there's too many, I have yet to find one that really gets me scared though. *The Ultimate horror movie* -sigh- still searching the shelves in the video store.

When I watch a horror movie with friend's they're screaming their heads off and I'm like

But if we watch a film like Hostel or Saw (in my opinion that's more torture than horror) I'm the one screaming and hiding my eyes because I just can't stand watching people in so much physical pain as I'm imagining myself in those situations.

Supernatural episode: The Kids are Alright.
Okayy.. so it's not a movie...but it scared me soooo much. I was too scared to even move. Freaky kids.

It's not a movie but the Twilight Zone always got me when I was younger. It still gives me chills now, but not as bad. And the perfect classic, Psycho. Everything about that movie is amazing. Ever tiny little detail. You'd be amazed at how intricate some of the stuff is. Everything from the color of clothes, to her license plate, to the tones of their voices...the details are simply amazing. Chilling. The Twilight Zone can be freaky too. I remember staying up half the night after some of them. They're also really chilling. And I was watching Freaks last night. There's something about black and white movies that just captures something a color simply doesn't.

Reminds me, one episode of Doctor Who, Blink, the one with the statues.
Scariest episode ever!

I think I'll have to check out a few of the movies put here, I love being scared.

^Ha ha, that's quite a list.
I limit myself to PG-13, and that rules out all the best ones. I've seen stuff like The Grudge, The Invasion, and Stay Alive to name my most recent viewings. They tend to be funnier than scary. I enjoy yelling at the screen when a character's about to do something stupid and laughing at cheesy effects.
Books, now, that's something different. They don't have a rating (thankfully), and the scariest book I've ever read is Christine, by Stephen King.
I don't know how scary the movie was (again, rated Rr), but the book kept me up at night. Honestly, I haven't been able to eat a hamburger without thinking about it ever since. There's this vivid choking scene, when the car is trying to kill the girlfriend...anyways...I recommend it for anyone who wants to be thoroughly creeped out.

I don't really watch Horror movies because I have an over active imagination. I hate gory bloody stuff too, I'm more into psychological themed type films. Sometimes thrillers too though.
I really like The Shining. That was very good.
I love Sleepy Hollow even if it's not that scary, though Lady Van Tassel very much creeped me out..
The Secret Window was okay, I liked the idea that Monty had false memories though.
The Others is a bit eerie near the end when everything is revealed.
And yes, that's about it. I told you I haven't seen many movies that are considered "horror". I would really like to see 'Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street' though.
