Edward is not perfect. He's pretty close :D , but this whole thread is about things he's not good at.

The books imply that he's perfect, which I think is a sign of a flat character; he's not good at being well-rounded and believable.

Believable to the characters in the books or believable to the reader?

Crusader For Literature, I can really see where you're coming from with that (though I disagree), but Edward still has his flaws and weaknesses. Plus, the books that are currently out are written from Bella's point of view. Bella believes he's pretty much perfect, so of course the books are biased. -shrug- To each his own. If the book was written from someone like Alice's point of view, I bet he would come across differently, though if that would sway rabid fangirls I doubt.

Edited to add a few things.

I can give you over 100 quotes FROM THIS FORUM ALONE of people saying variations of Edward is perfect" or "Edward is perfect in absolutely every way".

There's a book coming out in Edward's POV. Maybe it'll shatter his "perfect" image. I highly doubt it.

Until that happens, I continue to think of him as an incredibly, unbelievable, shameless Gary-Stu.

If people were to say they despised him and that he was a horrible character, would your opinion of Edward as a Gary-Stu remain the same? Or is your view on Edward damaged because of the people who go around saying 'OMGOMG. EDWARD IS PERFECTION'?

Edward is far from perfect; he's arrogant, masochistic, overprotective, and stereotypical, just to name a few of his flaws, but people still love him all the same, maybe because of the high pedestal Bella puts him on. Of course, I also adore Edward, but still, he is in no way perfect. No one is.

I doubt that Midnight Sun will sway the views of Edward's fangirls, myself included. If anything, I'm guessing more sympathy will be given (again, as it will come from my direction, as well).

Those that don't regard Edward so highly certainly have their rightful reasoning, but his positive traits outweigh his negative to most people, like his love, compassion, loyalty, mind, etc, and perhaps most of all to a lot of people who won't admit it, his looks.

Okay, sorry about that little tirade. It's longer than I intended. Also sorry if I completely missed the point of your post. I do that a lot when I'm tired, heh.
