Songs not on Stephenie's Playlist

Post by LadyNefalot »

I know there's a thread going for whether or not we agreed with Stephenie's choice for playlists; whether or not we throught the songs were fitting. While I did agree that the songs were all fitting, I have so many of my favorite songs that fit that I want to know what songs other people listened to when reading the books, and maybe an explanation of why you like it? I'll be back later on to add my own personal list, which I started in the other thread. (I could probably have a nice long rant about lyrically fitting Darren Hayes songs, but I'll get to that when I have more time)
Anyways, just want to hear what you guys think!
Happy Holidays to everyone if I'm not back before then.

I loved the fact that Stephenie put up her playlists. I think I have to thank her for introducing me to Armor for Sleep.

Anyway, there are quite a few songs that remind me/seem to fit with Edward and Twilight/New Moon in general. My list might be a little long, so beware.

- Comptine D'un Autre Eté (L'après midi).(Twilight) I love it because the sound is simply haunting, beautiful and relaxing. If anything, this piece reminds me of Edward playing at the piano, so that means I listen to it all the time.
- Goodbye My Lover - James Blunt. (New Moon). It pretty much reminds me of how Bella turned Edward's life around, made him see things he couldn't have seen without her. To me, it shows Edward leaving, and what he has to push past (memories, love) to say goodbye for Bella's saftey. Look up the lyrics if you haven't heard the song before, you'll know what I mean.
- Comatose- Skillet. (New Moon). This one can be applied to both Bella and Edward, more Bella than Edward, but still. Mainly I think it's about the fact that they aren't pulling through so well without each other and how Bella needs Edward to be with her even with the danger that being with him presents. It's a really amazing song.
- Temporary Insanity- The Weekend. (Twilight). Love this song, my friend showed me the song a little while back and I immediately thought of Bella and Edward. I think that this song has the undercurrent of the Bella/Edward relationship in the beginning stages, where Edward is desperately trying to figure out what Bella means to him and what he's going to do.... confusing Bella on the way to his end result. It's peppy and in doing so, it shows (to me at least) how the situation is Romantic, angsty and ecxiting.
- Moonlight Sonata- Beethoven (Twilight/New Moon). My other Edward/Twilight/New Moon crazed friend (the one I hooked ) recommended this one to me, and it's been on my Ipod ever since. It's beautiful, this one also reminds me of something Edward would listen to to calm down, or something he would play on the piano. Absolutely relaxing and easy to listen to.
- Hello- Evanescence (New Moon). This one is all Bella. All of the feelings she tromps through in New Moon and everything she has to pull through despite the obvious lack of Edward in her life. It also has to do with the way people treat her, or act around her whenever they see her. They act like she's broken, they try to help her forget. But she doesn't want to forget. Pretty mellow and not so happy. Definetly an after Edward leaves piece.
- Breathe No More- Evanescence (New Moon). This one is all Bella as well. Pretty much the same context as Hello, just how she doesn't really seem to want to do the things she used to now that Edward isn't there... now that the Cullens are gone.
- Ever Fallen In Love- Fine Young Cannibals (Twilight). Touches on the basis of forbidden love and love that can be dangerous. Seriously for anyone who has heard this song before, the whole song is pretty much the same lines with the same message. Ever Fallen in love with someone you shouldn't have fallen in love with...

Other songs:

* Love Like Winter - AFI (Twilight)
* Always Something- Switchfoot (New Moon)
* On Fire- Switchfoot (New Moon)
* One and Only- Teitur (Twilight)
* Franklin- Paramore (New Moon)
* Car Underwater- Armor for Sleep (New Moon). Basically, Bella's whole cliff diving bit.
* Breathe- Greenwheel (New Moon)

Told you it was long!

I listen to as many of the songs she recommended as I could find...and in my iPod I've created a playlist for listening to when reading Twilight/New Moon.

It won't be as long as ColdOne's...but I think still long.

+Love Like Winter-AFI (A Fire Inside)
from Decemberunderground
This song...is just so awesome. The somewhat gloomy [? is that the right word??] song fits right into the two books.

+Take Me Away-Avril Lavigne
from Under My Skin
From Edward's perspective (how can you NOT love him?), this song somewhat fits to where Edward doesn't know what to do in his confusion.

How Does it Feel?-Avril Lavigne
from Under My Skin
Avril has some really nice songs...love them. This is from Alice's point of view, wondering what it's like to be human...although this could work for any vampire's situation, I think Alice wonders about it the most.

My Happy Ending-Avril Lavigne
from Under My Skin
I love this song! It goes right into the part where Edward decides to leave, and Bella...well...I don't want to give it all away for people who haven't finished New Moon yet! ~So much for my happy ending~

Slipped Away-Avril Lavigne
from Under My Skin
I swear this is the last Avril song! :D This is from BOTH Edward and Bella's point of view. For Edward, it's where he finds out [incorrectly] that Bella's gone. For Bella, it's when Edward decides to leave.

Anybody-Jesse McCartney
from Right Where You Want Me
This song, to me, is about the pain in both Bella and Edward...nuff said.

Just So You Know-Jesse McCartney
from Right Where You Want Me
This song is more meaningful than "Anybody",
*and I quote*
Thought you should know
I've tried my best to let go of you
But I don't want to
I just gotta say it all
Before I go
Just so you know
*end of me quoting*

Aw, come on! Isn't that enough? Doesn't this song just OOZE what Edward's feeling towards Bella?

Bring Me To Life-Evanescence
from some unknown CD because I'm no big fan (until now) of them, forgive me
Bella's in darkness from mid-September to Febuary (right? ), needing somebody to bring her to life. That somebody, is Jacob. <3

Also, I think the song that Stephenie put on her playlist, Sound of Pulling Heaven Down by Blue October can also be sung from Jacob's point of view. Think about that. :D

**Now for fobby songs! Japanese and Chinese/Mandarin songs**

Tsubomi-Maria
This song is...just so great. When I hear this song, I'm reminded of Bella trying so hard after IT happend. The translated lyrics are floating around the internet somewhere...

Electric Shock-S.H.E
What Happend to Us-S.H.E
Goodbye My Love-S.H.E.
from Forever
Electric Shock...what Edward and Bella both felt during biology.
What Happend to Us...where Bella's questioning if she did anything wrong
Goodbye My Love...Does the title not tell you enough? I mean...seriously! <3

Songs by the band, "Eff, Ai, Arr" The letters eff, ai, and arr. The people won't let me use the letters...they think it's an abbreviation...it's not. The band name is just FIR. Just with periods in between.
Fly Away
Our Love

Let Go of Love
A Reason to Give Up

Every Day and Night
You Really Love Them ('them' as it him/her)
The Person I Love Most

Fly Away...Bella being able to hold herself up, even though she's been through things much worse than getting her heart broken.
Our Love...Edward's perspective (at first in New Moon), thinking that the love that they have isn't right.

Let Go of Love...Also Edward-Telling Bella to let go of the relationship they had.
A Reason to Give Up...Bella's perspective...She needs a reason for her to give up on everything. To give up on Edward coming back, to their love, everything.

Every Day and Night...It's a duet...and think of it as Bella and Edward singing. The intro is part of LeAnn Rimes' song, "How Do I Live", which is ALSO a great song to listen to.

You Really Love Them...Finally a song in Jacob's perspective, where he realizes that he really has no chance with Bella, because she truly loves Edward... emotional moment right there.

The Person I Love Most...Bella to Edward, Edward to Bella. [no DUH :D]

Well...I'm done now...I hope this isn't too long...
If you need any translations to the Japanese and/or Mandarin songs, I could find those for you. Definitely worth listening to! Even if you don't understand, it's got a really great tune.

Happy reading~

Well...I have fallen in love with this song and truly believe it goes great with New Moon...

NICKELBACK

"Far Away"

This time, This place
Misused, Mistakes
Too long, Too late
Who was I to make you wait
Just one chance
Just one breath
Just in case there's just one left
'Cause you know,
you know, you know

[CHORUS]
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
and you'll never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore

On my knees, I'll ask
Last chance for one last dance
'Cause with you, I'd withstand
All of hell to hold your hand
I'd give it all
I'd give for us
Give anything but I won't give up
'Cause you know,
you know, you know

[CHORUS]

So far away
Been far away for far too long
So far away
Been far away for far too long
But you know, you know, you know

I wanted
I wanted you to stay
'Cause I needed
I need to hear you say
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I forgive you
For being away for far too long
So keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go

COME ON....you know its perfect...

I don't know if this song has been mentioned or not, but Lovefool by The Cardigans always reminds me of Bella's feeling after Edward left her.

Lovefool by The Cardigans

Dear, I fear we're facing a problem,
You love me no longer I know and,
Maybe there is nothing that I can do to make you do.
Mama tells me I shouldn't bother,
That I ought to stick to another man,
A man that surely deserves me.
But I think you do.

[CHORUS]
So, I cry and I pray and I beg,
Love me, love me, say that you love me,
Fool me, fool me, go on and fool me,
Love me, love me, pretend that you love me,
Lead me, lead me, just say that you need me,
So I cry and I beg for you to
Love me, love me, say that you love me,
Lead me, lead me, just say that you need me,
I can't care about anything but you

Lately, I had desperately pondered,
Spent my nights awake and I wondered,
What I could have done in another way to make you stay
Reason will not teach a solution,
I will end up lost in confusion,
I don't care if you really care as long as you don't go

[CHORUS]
So, I cry and I pray and I beg,
Love me, love me, say that you love me,
Fool me, fool me, go on and fool me.
Love me, love me, pretend that you love me,
Lead me, lead me, just say that you need me,
So I cry and I beg for you to
Love me, love me, say that you love me,
Lead me, lead me, just say that you need me,
I can't care about anything but you

Anything but you,
Love me, love me,
Say that you love me,
Fool me, fool me,
Go on and fool me,
Love me, love me,
I know that you need me,
I can't care about anything, but you.

So, what do you think?

I like some of the songs on Stephenie's playlist, too. I like when authors provide playlists for their books.

theres this song by the Killers...When You Were Young...

You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now
Here he comes

He doesnt look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined
When you were young

Can we climb this mountain
I dont know
Higher now than ever before
I know we can make it if we take it slow
Let's take it easy
Easy now
Watch it go

We're burning down the highway skyline
On the back of a hurricane
That started turning
When you were young
When you were young

And sometimes you close your eyes
And see the place where you used to live
When you were young

They say the devil's water
It ain't so sweet
You dont have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while

You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now
Here he comes

He doesnt look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined
When you were young
(talks like a gentleman)
(like you imagined)
When you were young

I said he doesnt look a thing like Jesus
He doesnt look a thing like Jesus
But more than you'll ever know

Those two songs fit! *squeal*

there's something I've been trying:

Go through your old CDs listen to them, and think of the lyrics through a character's point of view.

I don't know how to describe it, but I have a new appreciation for the songs.

There's a couple of songs I've listened to and really thought they fitted with Twilight & New Moon. The only one I can remember at the moment is:

MakeDamnSure by Taking Back Sunday

I was listening to it on the bus to school, and suddenly thought: "That song is so much like Edward!" It just made me think of how Edward was feeling during Twilight.
