I have been wondering, if edward really understands what bella went through when he was gone?

do you think he fully understands all the pain he caused?

ok

so my personal oppinion is that edward does not understand. at least not fully.

i think he gets that he hurt her, but he doesn't know the extent of that. i think the first wave of recognition hit him when bella and him were walking to his house. when she said that he leaving her was worse than being killed, i think it hit him. i think he got "oh, i really hurt her."

but still, i don't know if he really understands how much pain he caused when he left. i think it is partly bella's fault, though. she didn't get angry when he came back, so i think he didn't see exactly how bad he hurt her.

but i would be letting him know, soon, if i were bella. because if it ever crossed edwards mind to leave again, that might stop him knowing that it would hurt bella more than him being there.

so basically, i think edward needs to understand the extent of damage bella now has, so he doesn't take it for granted. but bella needs to help.

I agree. He doesn't understand. But in the same way Bella doesn't fully understand how he felt when he left her. Him not knowing, like you said before is also because she didn't get mad at him when he came back. I think in the future Bella will relate to it. For example if he were to leave her to go somewhere and she didn't want him to or they had to be separated. I think she will be like don't leave, you hurt be enough when you left the first time. Eh that sorda makes sense. I hope you understand what I am trying to say. :?

I know that Edward realizes that he hurt her, but I don't think that he understood really how much. I don't think he realized how she had been living for those months. He probably never knew that she was living like a zombie was so dead-like. I know that it must have been really really difficult for Edward not to be with her, but Bella had to live feeling worthless...because Edward told her he didn't want her. She also had to live never knowing what was going on with them all and if they were ever coming back...Edward never had to experience how it would have felt if Bella left and never told him what was going on. It wasn't that Edward didn't just understand what she went through, I think he never will..that is unless Bella decides to leave him.

Wait, whoa, whoa. Hold on, remember when Edward described how he was basically writhing, and barely able to hold on to himself. He was worse than Bella! Bella at least, held on to some humanity and still went on for Charlie, and her grades, Edward just shriveled up, and gave up living. If anyone read "Rosalie's News" (The phone call where Rosalie told Edward that Bella had died), he described how bad he was, just lying there, taking life a day at a time. I think Edward did (and still does) understand Bella's pain, he went through some too!

Yes, certainly Edward experienced a lot of pain as well, but I don't think it was exactly the same as Bella. He at least knew there was a possibility he could go back, if he didn't adhere to his rules; Bella believed that her soul mate had rejected her and ceased to care for her.

I don't think Edward fully understands. Bella just did normal human things to make it look like she was fine when she wasn't. Sure Edward knows that he's hurt Bella deeply, but I don't think he's found out yet how deep he's hurt her. Bella's pain was definately worse than Edwards. For Bella she was lost, there was know hope. Edward could go back at anytime if he chose to.

I don't think Edward fully understands what he really put Bella through when he left. He knows he hurt her a lot, but he doesn't realize how much. I think he would have had to actually witness what was happening to understand it.
