Remenber the outake on Rosalie's news....He was a train wrecked....he was in a catatonic state and depressed in the worse posible way imaginable...

Edward and Bella's love borders on insanity.....And when he understood she felt the same way (as in CRAZY-I-NEED-YOU-OR-I-DIE way)he completely understood her pain....It was obvious that the moment they became separated she died the same way he did.....Awwww!!!!! Ain't that wonderfull!!!

Thank You!!!!!!!! that's exacly my point I was arguing with my cousin who also read New Moon that Edward DID understand Bella's pain, that he went through the same thing but she was like "NO If he knew that it would hurt them both why would he leave in the first he should have saved the pain for both him and Bella" and she has a point there but Edward thought it was for the best well it matters that at lest he came back. :)
About three things I was absolutely positive
First Edward was a vampire.
Second there was a part of him - and I didn't know how dominant that part might be- that thirsted for my blood.
And third I was uncoditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

<center> I think Edward doesn't understand the pain he caused Bella because he doesn't want to
<center> It would bring him so much pain, and I'm sure it hard to think about
<center> Also,
<center> He thought he was protecting her,
<center> He thought it was the right thing to do and he must've truly convinced himself that staying would cause her more pain than leaving her would
<center> Or else he wouldn't have left

<center> Then again he must understand to some extent
<center> Because it caused him pain to leave her
<center> He also went through seperation anxiety to the extreme
<center> And Jacob, being the immature brat he is, generously supplied the image of Bella the day he left.

I say no because he himself is/was experiencing something completely different. She was dealing with the rejection of him leaving and then having to wonder if he meant it when he came back. He had to deal with leaving her, actually taking himself away, and then having to convince her he would never to that again.

So I say no because it's different types of pain.

^^Right.

Bella was just left hanging with the knowledge that she had been left. He had to wonder constantly if he did wrong, and what could/would he possibly do about it. His was a constant battle with himself. Hers was more a constant battle with the outside world and trying to regain her place in it.

Edward completely understands what Bella was going through, he went through the same himself if not worse. he was the one who had the power to end it, and go back yet he wanted what he thought was best for her which made it worse for him hes also seen jakes thoughts about Bella during the time he was gone. I think he knows exactly to what extent Bella was hurt and understands fully.
The Twilight Saga-
for all people who just need that extra reminder how much they really do care.

agreed. Even thought Edward didn't go through the SAME thing bella went through- he did have to endure a heavier burden, one which many of us would not be willing to take or risk. He chose to end it himself because he wanted what was best for her- he was being completely selfless. He wanted Bella to have a fulfilling life even if that meant he would not be with her. He loved her enough to leave her so she could have a better life- and that's not a love many of us see today- a self sacrificing love; an unconditional love. Basically, Edward has an unconditional love for Bella; in his mind he would rather sacrifice his own happiness so that Bella could live a true life...and for me- THAT'S exactly the kind of love that will last

I think Edward did understand Bella's pain, in a way. I'm a little on the fence, but there are two instances that kind of push me towards the "he does understand side." The first is from New Moon, where he says that while they were seperated Bella tried to act human, whereas he said he was pretty much useless. Another is from both New Moon and one of the NM extras on SM's website, where we see how Edward felt when he thought Bella was dead. True, maybe this is a different kind of pain, but I think maybe he does understand Bella's.

Those are my thoughts exactly. It hurt him to just tell her that he didn't want her anymore, and even more so when she believed him. Imagine thinking that the person you love, believes you love them more then anything, only to see them doubt it at the whim of a lie. He understands completely what she went through. Which is why he's hard on himself for it, even though Bella says she understands why he did it, and that there is not even a need to forgive him.
