The Vampire Mating Thread...take 6 (post Eclipse thoughts)
I'm cross-posting this from another place on the board.
Does anyone have any ideas how Edward and Bella are going to manage this one if she is human?
Does Edward have more self restraint than he thought?
Do the Cullens have a secret antigravity chamber?
I have this fear of Bella a la a Looney Tunes cut out being smashed through the headboard or the boxspring.
Plus what kind of honeymoon is it if Carlisle is on call in the next room ready to spring into action in case Edward breaks Bella in two?

Mmm, hello VMT. =]
I think that the only way that Edward and Bella are going to manage anything while she's human is by use of a lot of restraint, hope, trust, and understanding. Undersanding on Bella's part that Edward has agreed to try, and try only, which is a monumental agreement unto itself. Its also going to take understanding on Edward's part that Bella really does trust him, and she also is fully aware of what could happen if something went wrong.
I think that Edward has far more self restraint than he thinks he does. By simply worrying if he does have the restraint, he's gaining more, if that makes any sense at all. If and when the time comes that Edward and Bella actually further things physically, Edward will probably be so concerned about self restraint that he won't let himself slip up. He'll be focusing on it.
Also, one debatable issue on this 'restrain topic' has always been Edward's blood lust for Bella. He says it himself, on page 471, " 'This doesn't bother me anymore.' ...He shrugged, 'I got over it.' " So, his bloodlust isn't a huge factor in slipping up during the act. His strength and such are still factors, but when compared to the first, they aren't quite as hefty.
Antigravity chamber? Haha I envision Bella floating around in a spacesuit- now that would make things difficult.

Does anyone have any ideas how Edward and Bella are going to manage this one if she is human? The other clan the Cullens know were intimate with human men, so its possible.
Does Edward have more self restraint than he thought? I think so, and I also think its not as hard to be careful.
Do the Cullens have a secret antigravity chamber? LMAOO. Probably.
I have this fear of Bella a la a Looney Tunes cut out being smashed through the headboard or the boxspring. OMG, that would be so sad. We should mourn, and bake her some chocolate chop cookies since she no longer could.
Plus what kind of honeymoon is it if Carlisle is on call in the next room ready to spring into action in case Edward breaks Bella in two? True, but I think that Edward would be to ashamed and horribly mad at himself to care if Carlisle was in the other room that whole time.

"Just remember, I came first," he continued.
I couldn't help but laugh. "Well, first is the worst."
I don't think that made him very happy.

What Green Queen said about Tanya. That was a HUMAN male and a FEMALE vampire. I think (and I know it has been said on VMTs before) that it makes a difference. Given the mechanics of who does what action in the whole mating/baking process.
Does Edward have more self restraint than he thought?
I think he does. But I also know that when you get to that um... culminating moment in the whole process one loses control of many things, many things become involuntary, not the least of which is muscular control. Esp. for a guy
Do the Cullens have a secret antigravity chamber?
They are rich enough, Edward could buy them tickets to space. Hee Hee *hears the muppets* VAMPIRES IN SPAAAAAAAACE!!

Oh Pel!

Well Edward went to medical school and supposedly her blood doesn't tempt him anymore so Edward could treat her.

I think Edward could manage without hurting her seriously. It clearly isn't her bloodlust that would be the problem, and I think he could manage his strength too...but is it really going to be comfortable for either of them? I mean it will be hard for Edward to hold back his first time. And for Bella, I just think it might hurt no matter how careful he is being with his freezing granite skin. But maybe because they love each other so much, it will be nice no matter how uncomfortable it might be (now we all say "awwww...").
What confused me about Bella's request was her saying she would be only bloodthirsty for years. Didn't Emmett marry Rosalie in his first year as a newborn vamp? I mean I know the bloodlust is strongest for awhile, but I sort of always thought she would have those feelings for Edward at least pretty quickly, too.
I was pretty shocked (and happy) that Edward was willing to consider trying it with her human.

On a random note, did anyone else here find it odd that after Bella and Edward almost tried to consummate their relationship in the meadow, it described them both as lying back, trying to slow their breathing?
I mean...Vampires aren't required to breathe, right? Typically, people breathe faster when they're, um, excited because the heart begins to pump more blood, release more adrenaline, and need more oxygen to supply the cells with energy so the muscles can spring into action. I just found it a bit odd that Edward would be breathing harder too, since his breathing isn't a physical necessity and therefore shouldn't be triggered by an increase in physical excitement at all.
Unless we're going to be all romantic and un-scientific and figure that it was just because he was "in the moment" and that Bella brings out the humanity that's left in him. Which could be a possibility too.
Also...Another awkward issue. Since this is a family-friendly forum, I'll try to keep this as PG-rated as I can.
When looking at the act of intimacy from a biological standpoint, usually blood is very important, particularly in the case of males, for intimacy to take place. Since vampires are all dried out on the inside and have no heartbeat or blood to facilitate the pumping of blood to certain areas, wouldn't intimacy be a bit difficult for vampires, or at least male vampires?
Unless they have superb muscle control that just defies all physiological reasoning, of course. Which is possible in the Twilight universe.

They can, they just have to be careful. Bella, I think, and this may be tmi, I think she should be on top. It would be easier.
Does Edward have more self restraint than he thought?
I think Edward can handle himself. Actually, if he was willing to "try" at the end of the book, then he thinks so too.
Do the Cullens have a secret antigravity chamber? ROFL!! If they don't already, they can just buy one.
Plus what kind of honeymoon is it if Carlisle is on call in the next room ready to spring into action in case Edward breaks Bella in two? Not a very good one, I'll admit.
I agree with Bella on this, they should at least try.

I know exactly what you mean about being shocked. I had always imagined that Edward would put an end to the conversation before it really started. He does have his ways of dazzling Bella into getting his way, so I thought that he would just pull that card. But I was really happy and pleasantly surprised that he didn't. In most fanfics that address this topic, Edward puts up a good fight, and eventually gives in. Assuming that since alot of these fics portray their conversation as such, I'm willing to bet that most people were at least a little shocked.LindsAy wrote: I was pretty shocked (and happy) that Edward was willing to consider trying it with her human.
The fact that Edward didn't just shut the conversation down shows that he wants to, and is just as willing to try as Bella to move their relationship further along on the physical scale. This improvement (as it is in my mind
