Imprinting

Post by Alphie »

How did you feel about the idea of the wolves Imprinting? How did you feel about which ones imprinted and the people they imprinted on?

And just so you know, if you've listened to the Forks-casts, this was the thing I spoiled for Pel! I accidentally mentioned this thinking it was in New Moon... and it wasn't! DUH! We'll have to tell that story in our next Forks-cast.

First, Imprinting on a two year old! Wow, I don't think I've ever laughed that hard.

It makes you wonder though, since Jacob knows about the imprinting, like, why is he still 'after' Bella?
I may be a little out of it, I read the book almost two weeks ago, then leant it to a friend, so I don't have a copy to refer too.

Oh good! I just asked this in another thread.

Can someone kind of explain imprinting again to me? I'm not sure I really "got" it, I kind of of just have a vague idea of how it works.

I was sort of confused as well, but my understanding is this:

When a werewolf sees someone and they imprint on them, its like soulmates. They have to be with that person. Like, so strong a love they can't do anything about it. My interpretation at least.

That's what I gathered, but Quil's imprinting on the two year old confused me...it seemed kind of wrong.

Thats true. Hm, I guess its going into the whole 'there's somebody for everyone' kind of thing. And, it just so happens that Quil found that person a little early maybe.

Well, I totally can understand that the person he wants could be so young now, but what I don't understand is how he wants a two year old now...that makes it seem like "destiny" instead of a choice...and I can't see love as anything other than a choice.

THANK YOU ALPHIE!!

For me, imprinting was the single most interesting thing about Eclipse. (well okay the Bella Edward sex compromise had me a little riveted too).

I guess it interests me so much because of all the discussions I have had with the girls over at the TUGPM philosophy threads. I don't believe in soul mates or destiny. I really like the idea that I'm in control of my life. Imprinting goes against almost all of that! And yet there is something insanely romantic about the way Jake describes it.

"It's more like gravity moves. When you see her, suddenly it is not the earth holding you here anymore, she does." p. 176
I think that actually might be one of the most romantic lines in the whole series!

So here are some of my questions and thoughts on the whole imprinting thing. I allude to some of these thoughts on other threads but I was interested in what people thought about these things.

-Are Bella and Edward Imprinted? It kind of feels that way to me. If they are what does that say about true love? The book is "about choosing true love" but how can you choose if you are imprinted?

-Tied to that what parallels are found with the Leah/Sam/Emily imprint relationship. What do people think about those parallels?

-Quil and the 2 year old?????
I was soooooooooooooo squidged out by this. And yet, Jake also kind of makes it make sense too. How did everyone else feel about it? I've seen some people say it made them laugh. And I can kind of see how it is sweet too. "You become whatever she needs you to be, whether that's a protector, or a lover, or a friend, or a brother." p. 176

-Is it more common than the stories say, how is this further going to mess up the pack? Were the last generation of wolves imprinted? Could it have something to do with why Embry is a wolf?

^That quote bugged me, because I was like, "Hello Jake! She needs a brother so stop expressing how warm for her form you are!".

this is so true. But, also, he said he hadn't imprinted on her. So, he wouldn't have to stop and start being her brother. This subject definitely has more curves than I thought.
