I brought that up in response to all the Bella hate on the lex.

Good, I'm not alone, I hope I'm understanding your meaning...Bella's been getting bashed every where and I just don't think she deserves it. I'll find what you wrote tomorrow and respond. It's just too late right now.

I agree. It's because he's Edward Cullen- how could she do that to him? That is so unfair for Bella, on so many occasions.

Edward's mistakes are monumental. But, the mistake of him leaving in New Moon was very necessary for their relationship. As much as I thought Jake wasn't meant for Bella in this way- this might be another necessary thing Bella's relationship with Edward.

I agree, I don't hate Bella. I love her! She's a great and strong narrator, who has evolved to become her own person. I was just so heart broken (which I've repeated almost everywhere)

haha, it's because he's Edward Cullen. Yes.

I think you just summed up how I felt. I couldn't quite word it properly. It was necessary.

Sasha wrote:Now, I am going to repeat a question I asked a little while back (possibly on this thread):
Why is Edward allowed to make mistake after mistake without any fandom back-lash, but Bella, after doing one bad thing (because I don't believe it was a mistake) is deemed unoworthy of the great Edward?

Please do answer... I really want to know the thought-process behind waving away all of Edward's faults and bad descisions as "noble".

My take:

The naughty things Edward did -- most notably leaving, and causing Bella evil, wretched pain, in addition to various overprotective acts -- were done for Bella. Was it selfless? No, of course not. But he was trying, in his meager but determined way, to allow her some semblance of normal life at great personal cost.

What Bella did to Edward -- most notably The Great Dog Snog -- had absolutely not one single thing to do with Edward. She was acting for herself, and only for herself. I'm not necessarily saying that that, by its nature, is entirely bad. BUT, I think when you love someone you really should take great care not to treat them like cast-off yellowtail heads on fishermans wharf. Will you always and forever succeed? No, of course not. But you should try, I think.

I've seen a whole crapload of trying from Edward, however misguided and with whatever horrifying consequences. But I saw no such thing from Bella in this book. Not until the end, after she'd already exhausted her surplus of Fantastically Moronic Behaviors.

But I must again reiterate: I don't blame Bella entirely. In fact, I think I'm letting her off quite easily. I just really think that the way things transpired -- not THAT they transpired, necessarily -- was inappropriate.

I've spent 2 books having Bella/Edward wonderfulness spoon fed to me. I have come -- as I believe I was supposed to -- to legitimately care about the characters. The Great Dog Snog seemed far too much like plot device, to me. And NOT like something I could reasonably expect Bella to do . . . in one single book, let alone one single paragraph.

I survived The Great Dog Snog and all I got was this lousy sigline.

I'm so exhausted with worrying and wanting Edward and Bella to be together that your take is very appealing right now.

I really do like Bella, too. And she's human- yet she deals with things like vampires very well, all things considered. I thought her loving Jake wasn't the best, but you just can't choose who you love. It's not that easy.

And Jacob has done so, so much for Bella- he's her sun. Even though I was iffy a little while ago- I've never had any Bella/Jake hate, just a little irritation.

I'm reading this all over the Ec threads, but am confused. People keep saying that Bella says she's in love with Jacob. Doesn't she actually discuss the difference. Doesn't she say she loves Jacob, but she's in love with Edward?

She's in love with Jacob too, but with Edward much more. It's what tears me apart. Bella loving Jake isn't the hard part it's being in love with him that makes me sad.

Does she discuss the difference? Please direct me to the page that she does.
