Stop reading the Series???

Post by elibeans77 »

Ok, I tried to look up this topic on the search engine here and found nothing (maybe im just not that good at searching)

Let's say that in Eclipse we get the sense that the relationship between Bella and Edward has changed. There have been soo many predictions as to what is going to happen that i wont get into the possible scenarios. What i'm getting at is...Would you continue to read the books if there was a possiblity that your favorite couple in Eclipse (Edward and Bella) might not end up together? What if Jake and Bella were to become closer in Eclipse? So many people have so strongly made their opinions known on this matter; how they would absolutely die if they didnt end up together and how they wouldnt continue reading the books (believe it or not I have actually read comments like this). Personally I would continue reading the books. I love the way Stephenie writes, its very hard for me to put her books down.

Well that is a very good question. I would hate it if bella and edward did not end up together. However, I think I would have to finish the sereis because I am the kind of person that needs closer. I would not be able to just not know what happened in the end. However, I dont think I would read it with as much intrest. I would probally just read it in between books that I really want to read. I would just have to know what happend to my loved Edward!
I was already past trying to live through one week at a time, or even on day. I was fighting to make it through a single hour. It was only a matter of time - and not much of it- before I showed up at your window and begged you to take me back. I'd be happy to beg now, if you'd like that.
I LOVE EDWARD CULLEN

I agree with sarahS, I would have to finish the series will secretly hoping that Edward would come back. But I just can't think of a reason why Bella would prefer Jake over Edward. I mean, I can see way too many reasons why anyone else would pick Jake first but Bella is in love with Edward. So unless something bad happens to him, Bella will stay with Edward. Jacob is way too adorable to be left in the dark though. I trust Stephenie to come up with something.

Meh.

I'm ok with Bella and Edward taking a backseat (as a fabulously immortal couple, mind you) for the rest of the series to focus on other perspectives, characters and situations -- in fact, I'd prefer it BUT . . . I think if their relationship is severed I'd loose a good deal of interest. Mainly because, at this point, I think doing so would be too wildly out of the blue and it would . . . annoy . . . me to feel that I couldn't trust the motivations of the characters I was reading about. Yes it's fiction and anything can hapen, but part of what makes these books so amazing for me is the thoroughness with which Ms. Meyer's crafts her characters. To feel that anything they say and do could be subject, even fictively, would take away quite alot of my passion for them.

I think I'd finish the series, but with perahps 1/64 of the obsession I presently indulge.

EDIT: And if Bella should, for any reason, end up with Jacob I would not only never read another, I'd chuck the one in which it happens clear across the tri-state. But then I do hate a good boy.

That's kind of like what happened in the beggining in New Moon
But if their relationship truly dies, then I'm going to have a serious talk with Stephenie Meyer. xD
but it is highly unlikely

Man, if Edward and Bella didn't end up together (I can't believe I just typed that)...then I would hate it so much. But I would absolutely have to finish the series.

Personally, I wouldn't care whether Bella ended up with Jacob or Edward. I love them both. I will follow whichever way Stepenie chooses.

I think I would need closure, so I would continue to read, but I would feel extremely disappointed if Bella and Edward did not end up together. As Stephenie herself said when Bella became a zombie after Edward left, her ache was real because it was true love (paraphrasing). True love means that you're together forever. It doesn't mean there won't be heartache and hard times, but you'll end up together. Honestly, I have no doubt, anymore, that they'll end up together. It may just take until Breaking Dawn or later for the final resolution to come into play...

If Bella and Edward were to seperate (yeah, right) then the place of Edward would have to be filled by Jake or some other awesomely hot, amazing guy. I don't think I could continue reading if it was from Edward's POV and Bella and him seperated... never say never though.

I think I was attempting to say this very thing in another thread. The only difference is that I WOULD stop reading the series. I'm saying that because, when I read a story, any story, I have to in some way trust the Story Teller. For me, it's the Story Teller's job to give me the information I need in order to understand/react to/feel for/and be a part of the story itself. If the Story Teller is unreliable...how am I supposed to believe any of it?

I'm not sure if I'm making sense but I'll keep trying. . . I trust Bella's voice. I feel she's an honest Story Teller. She's not always right. But she has at least been honest and forthcoming in telling us the story so far. And what has she constantly confided in us for nearly two books now? She loves Edward! She doesn't just love him, she can barely live without him. She's willing to harm herself just to hear an echo of his voice for crying out loud! And up until now, I've believed everything she's said because she hasn't just said it she's shown it as well. Contrarily, she has not waxed so poetically about Jacob. She does say she loves him in her own way. She calls him her best friend. She even contemplates being with him for the purpose of making him happy! But she never confides in us/the reader...that a romantic relationship with Jacob is what SHE really wants. So again, based on that, I believe her.

That being said, if things were to suddenly change in Eclipse, I would be completely confused and would probably lose all trust in the story itself. Therefore, leaving me completely incapable of believing Bella/the Story Teller. The characters and the story would simply become too unreliable for me.

I know I said this somewhere before, but. . . . if I am expected to believe in a Jacob/Bella romantic relationship in Eclipse, it should have been rounded out a little better in Twilight and New Moon. It should have been more of Bella saying "... I may romantically want Jacob." as opposed to what we got which was more like "...Jacob romantically wants me, so I'll consider it." See the difference? Or maybe I just see the difference (since these are my vague and random thoughts). Anyway, the short answer is no, I wouldn't read it anymore.
