TW/NM Reading Rituals

Post by ricegirl »

Do you guys have any habits or rituals when you read TW or NM? There are little things I do to make the whole experience feel more "real" (ah if only) and to let me sink into the Twilight Universe completely.

1) I have music playing in the background - a lot of the times, it's Claire de Lune, or any piano piece that reminds me of Edward's lullaby for Bella. Sometimes, I play specific songs that have been mentioned in the books, like Buddy Holly's "That'll Be The Day" and I'm getting around to finding the Linkin Park song from Twilight. (Can someone remind me the name of the song?)

2) This next one is my favourite thing to do when reading any book. You know those perfume samples they spray on paper strips and hand out at department stores? Well it's been a habit of mine for a few years to use those as bookmarks! It makes my books smell so nice :D Once, someone gave me a paper strip sprayed with an indescribably incredible cologne, and it was exactly how I imagined Edward smelled like (can you imagine how excited I was? I totally recommend this, it feels like Edward's right there with you, haha)! The unfortunate part is that the paper strip was unlabelled, so now I'm having trouble finding the cologne again, and my current NM bookmark's fragrance is fading... :(

Anyways, what do you guys do when you read the books? (I tried looking for a thread like this and honestly, I didn't even know what queries to search! So I'm sorry if this is a duplicate!)

interesting. I mean sure, I like reading it when it's raining around six, or if I have a new crush or something... but I don't really have any real rituals.

I actually like to play my piano around the time I read Twilight, but then I get to thinking how much better Edward is than me, and I get all depressed, and so then to get me out of my depression I read Edward parts...

Vicious circle, huh?

I also like to read when it's raining. And I mostly only read at night, unless I just have to read a certain part right then during the daytime.

Yeah, I'm kind of nocturnal...

oooh I like the perfume samples idea for bookmarks :)

I usually just make my own, but I tend to loose bookmarks so I just use whatever is the closest too me, whether its tissue, paper, a pen etc
But with Twilight and New Moon I don't really need bookmarkers as I don't really put it down lol

For rituals I tend to have peace and quiet, but whatever noise there is like a clock, I forget about soon after

Also I make a sort of pillow nest haha, and bring up snacks and drinks beforehand, but this is usually just for Stephenies books and Harry Potter XD

If I have to go eat food I bring the books with me...makes eating difficult...

I curl up in my bed or in the chair I have in my room, it is one of those circle chairs I forget what they are called but it is really comfy!

I can't have music on when I read I like to be completely focused on the book. as far as food or anything goes i have a water bottle but nothing else. I don't want to risk spilling on my book!

I don't use a bookmark because 1-I am really good at remembering where I left off and 2- In the case of Twilight and New Moon I don't put them down until I have finished.

My rituals kind of change from day to day. Usually, I like it to be very quiet. Oh, and I thought this was hilarious. I was at Bath and Body the other day, somewhere I don't usually go. And I found a sale moisturizer, in the scent freesia! This may be only funny to me, but I got it, and like to use it sometimes, maybe before I start reading.
Also, if I'm trying to visualize what's going on in the book, I try to mimick it (not exactly or anything). If the character is sitting cross-legged, I do the same, such as in the meadow scene etc. And no, I do not act out the books or anything, lol.
If I'm also trying to understand the tone of voice someone is speaking in, I might mutter the line to myself, weird, I know. I usually only do this if I'm alone, or only my family is around.
I usually have a bookmark, and now I'm thinking of trying to find a cologne sample one, lol. I will often just pick up Twilight or New Moon, and start reading at one of my favorite parts. Just yesterday I was at the grocery store with my mom, and they had New Moon, So I sat down and read it the whole time we were there, lol.
So, that was a very long-winded explanation.

~I'm usually in the same chair, upstairs, by the window whenever I read Twilight or New Moon, it's big and squishy, really comfy.
~Sometimes, but not all the time, I listen to music, like I have to turn it off at the really exciting parts or I can't concentrate.
~I never have anything to eat or drink, unless I'm like, starving, because I don't want it to spill on my book, personally, I think it's really nasty if you see grease stains from chips or something on book pages...I'm weird, I know.

I do the same thing with reading in stores and muttering lines! I also sort of try to make my face into the expression described, it helps me imagine it! I never get any food on my books but I eat with them all the time, I guess I am just cool like that.
