I guess I always just assume that the quotes were foreshadowing of the story. Which is why I'm nervous as all hell for the book!

With the New Moon quote Friar Lawrence is really trying to get Romeo and Juliet to think and slow down. It provides a dualistic view of happiness, that this happiness had great side effects. Romeo and Juliet were rushing things too fast, and could get in too deep and that's were the peril lays. My personal analysis is that the quote meant was that Bella and Edward were so far into it it was dangerous both physically and emotionally, that what they had was too good to be true.
The quote for Twilight also seemed to have two sides. Bella could be the apple the one he desperately wants to eat and the one thing he cannot have or else trouble should come by him. Or, Edward could be the apple, something about the apple intangible from Bella. Something she wants and cannot have, something forbidden and distant.
Both of the previous ones involve desire or happiness and punishment. I believe the Eclipse quote should also be about punishment but not about happiness, instead maybe fear.

Of course the quotes foreshadow what is to come.

I was reading something the other day, about how Stephenie said the cover for Twilight is meant to be Bella holding the apple, so I think the quote is more to do with her and the forbidden fruit (Edward) rather than the other way round

When I thought of a possible quote from Wuthering Heights to open Eclipse, I remembered this one:
"I've dreamt in my life dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed my ideas; they've gone through and through me, like wine through water, and altered the colour of my mind."
I don't think it'd be in Eclipse, but it surely made me think of Stephenie Meyer and her dream. What do you think?

i've never read withering heights but from the quote in new moon it sounds like something really bad is going to happen in eclipse. i just hope noone dies in it.

i think in the first chapter of Eclipse when Bella tells Edward to stay away from some one who is selfish like Cathy in Wuthering Heights might foreshadow some thing.

This quote still keeps jumping out at me. Every time I read the first chapter of Eclipse I just get a feeling that this quote will play out a bit in the book.
" . . . treachery and violence are spears pointed at both ends; they wound those who resort to them worse than their enemies."

that is an amazing quote, i think it's perfect.

Gah I can't wait to read the first chapter, then i'll go re-read Wuthering Heights or just skim through some of my favourite quotes and wonder which one's Stephenie Meyer will use
