True, and I believe this is probably the reason that school did not intervene. Still, in my expereince, it's when you least want to bothered that they try to "help".

But it's true, she did dump her friends for Edward a lot before he even left.
I thought that was kind of weird too. she probably would have gotten called to 'guidance' alot but it wasnt really meaningful in the book.

If i was one of Bella's friend i would understand, but still be pissed off. i mean seriously it would tear me apart to see her like that, but if i didnt know about the whole ridiculously strong connection between Edwrd/Bella id say she was being a bit dramatic with throwing her life away. id say 'you cant revolve your life around a BOY' i would still come back to her when she was alive again

but if id been 'in' on the whole vampire situation i would be much much more understanding. even if she didnt invite me over, id come anyway, to comfort her and be with her .

id be "annoyingly persistant" because sometimes it pays off. :D i love jacob! i would try to be her jacob... in girl form atleast? always happy and her sunshine. i would persistantly be her best friend. even if she wasnt there for me , too.

Who knows maybe they did, there are what like four months that the pages are just blank. I hope something would have happened, that someone tried to intervene, but whether they did or not Bella's not telling.

I think that we all love Bella because we can see the inner depths of her mind. We know how much she loves Edward, but not many people at school do because most of Bella and Edward's mingling is off the school campus. So to others their romance is just a highschool relationship, and not many people think it will last long because of their from two different leagues (reference to the "He's so out of your league!" comments). So when the relationship ended, her friends were not close enough to her to know that she was grieving over true love, not a silly crush. After a while they might have gotten tired of trying to comfort her. I give major props to Angela though, who did not know Bella very well, but still took her in when she ended her zombie-stage.

Plus, some of these "friends" were jealous of her and Edward to begin with. They might have been slightly happy they broke up *cough* Jessica *cough*. I think that Jess was using her a little bit because Bella was getting so much attention, and she wanted some. So when Bella started moping, she had no use for her any more.

"Just remember, I came first," he continued.
I couldn't help but laugh. "Well, first is the worst."
I don't think that made him very happy.

Well, I mean, as some others have said... Bella wasn't a very good friend to the other kids at school, either. She ditched them for Edward, never really hung out with any of them, and them pretty much locked them out of her life when Edward left.

If Bella was my good friend, then I would not have abandoned her. But remember, Bella had only moved there a few months ago, and she hadn't seen a need in developing strong relationships with anyone other than the Cullens. If Bella was an aquaintance of mine and this happened to her... well, I'd try for a while but then, what can you do? I'd move on with my life. It does seem a bit ridiculous from the outside... Bella's boyfriend moved and she turned into a zombie? Um... priorities, much?

And the school... well, mine would have intervened. Or not the school, maybe. But my teachers, especially the ones who know me better. Someone must have noticed the difference,

Then again, my parents wouldn't have stood for my behavior, either. My mom always warns me that if I'm badly behaved she'll send me to live with my cousin (and you have to know my cousin to get the full effect... also she lives in a different country), and I suppose she'd threaten me with that if I turned into a zombie, too. It's kind of an empty threat, but if it came to something serious I don't doubt she'd do it. I do think a change of environment would have been good for Bella, though.

If I had been Bella's friend, I would have been just as persistant as she was when Jake started ignoring her. If one of your friends just shuts off, something's seriously wrong, and whether they want it or not, they need help. Even if they don't want to talk about it, or can't, they do need cheering up.

But guys, you have to remember that Forks is a small town! I lived in Galveston, Texas (for those of you who aren't familiar, it's an island about 60 miles away from Houston, and thrives on touristy. But it's very small-town mentality. Everyone knows everyone.) for a few years when I was younger and went to a private Episcopalian school.

By private, I mean 200 people, ranging from Pre-K 2 through 8th grade; $500 a month tuition, and uniforms with plaid skirts.

If somebody turned off like that at Trinity, everyone would have been in their business, but after a while, they would've gotten bored, as it was 'old news,' and simply shunned them.

It's more of a feeling of being snubbed, I think. A "Well, she just thinks we're not good enough for her."

Of course, I was raised in Houston, so I'm more of the "IF YOU DON'T OPEN THIS GODDAMNED DOOR AND TELL ME WHAT'S THE MATTER, I'LL KICK IT DOWN!" type. ;D

Heh. Probably would have done Bella some good.

As for Bella's friends... well, friendship works both ways. I never got the impression that they were that close before Bella got involved with Edward, not even with Angela, IMO, from whom I've never gotten the BFF vibe.

It's certainly nothing like the Wallace and Veronica Mars friendship: "If you ever need a kidney, I've got one with your name on it. No questions asked."

I would like to think I'd try to help her, but I don't know how much patience or sympathy I'd have for someone who only seemed to want to be friends with me when it was convenient for her.

I don't think she deserved the silence treatment... I would (kind of) understand her pain. A guy she loved left her. I would try to comfort her if I was her friend.

Right on! -high fives-

We should make a club for people who would've supported Bella. ;D
