Yes, He Was Right

Post by Bella91388 » Sun Jun 29, 2008 1:04 pm

I think that Edward was just in his decision to leave Bella. He thought that if he stayed around that they would end up putting her in harm's way, and that she would die. He loved her too much to let that happen, so he did the only thing he thought that he could do; he left. And even though it tortured both of them, they learned a lot from it. They learned that they cannot survive without one another, and that made their relationship stronger. Bella also realized how Edward would do anything to protect her, but finally, Edward learned how much Bella REALLY loved him. And vice versa. Though those 8 months were torture for them both, and us readers, it ended up working out. :D

was edward an idiot?

I want to take this from Bella's perspective. Bella is foolish is her new found love and her view of Edward and he understood this, despite their love she never explained herself, this tragic human flaw is one we can all identify with. If Bella had known that her mind was closed to Edward as most of us are, she should have known to share and explain her thoughts to him. She could have saved herself and Edward a lot of pain.
This whole discussion is a huge debate in my office as I have played a large role in sharing Twilight there, Team Edward reigns Supreme.
I love Edward but in his years of wisdom even he misread the body language, did he ever give Bella a chance to state her position? Or as usual, is he just paranoid and over protective? It was said in a previous post that Edward knew his role in being a vampire and how that is dangerous to those of us who are breakable but yet he allowed himself to give in, to be human, and fall in love. He thinks he's infallibale at best but still he makes a choice, why did he not allow Bella that choice? Problem is she had made that choice already but selfishly didn't try to share/argure her point(she simply chose to believe that she could never be good enough for Edward-no matter how long we get to be a part of their lives, I believe she will allways feels inadiquate; It is love but who is she to deserve it, her pain is more than just the loss of Edward). She is after all only a human girl. The reality is, Age does not mean we are wise or even incapable of making sound decisions.
Edward was wrong! Edward was an Idiot! But Love spared them both pain, and living a life without the other by constantly having that loss on their minds. It kept them alive!

Although I can agree that Edward leaving was incredibly devastating, I don't think i can blame him.

He wasn't necessarily leaving for his own benefit, but what he thought was for her own good.
"If you love something, let it go"
I think he was acting on this motto, in this way to keep her close to his heart in another way.
I don't think he was an idiot, although his consequence was Jacob which I believe was a downfall (although Jacob is cul too).
It was selfless, but he still suffered.
So it may have been a bad decision, but still you can see why he did it

Edward leaving Bella was just a way to show that they cannot live without each other. People may think that Edward was such a big jerk to leave her, but what it really is showing is that Edward is so in love with Bella that he was willing to lie to her so she can have a better life. Obviously that was a mistake, but it shows that Edward would do anything for Bella even if it means hurting himself in the process.

Okay Im going to start by saying that I love Edward. I love him and I completely forgive him for what he did. It broke my heart when he left Bella. I was just reading New Moon for the ump-teenth time a few nights ago, and I had to put the book down. i couldnt read it. I couldnt let him leave again. But the thing is... even though it destroyed me when he left... He did the right thing.
Not that I wouldnt smack him if I got the chance, but come on! I dont know about you, but I rather enjoy having a soul, and I try to protect it. Thats what Edward was doing. To Edward a soul is a preciouse thing, that will ultimatly give you eternal bliss in heaven. He wants whats best for Bella, and eternity in hell isnt exactly something he wants to be responsible for in her life.
However I disagree with his idea that he has no soul, which leads me to beleive that Bellas soul was in no danger, so i think he made a stupid decision. To quote my good friend Katie-Belatie.
"He left Bella! I mean good intentions... bad idea"
He was justified in his own [thoughts][actions]... but justification doesnt make it right in this scenerio.
To add to his argument he didnt really know how much Bella loved him.
Aaaaaaaaall this leads me to answering the second question.
"Can I forgive him."
The answer is and always will be a sure-fire yes.
I love Edward just as much as I did when I first fell in love with him. I am a little miffed that becasue he left, I had to read how-ever many hundreds of pages of Jake. I know people love him here so out of respect i will not go into that.
But I forgive him because he did it because it was right... in his own mind, and because he did it FOR Bella. I mean what if he was right, and he was destroying her soul? In my opinion that would be... bad. But I dont beleive that so its all good.

P.S. For all the Jake lovers think about it. Edward left... but YOU got Jake. Not a perfect scenerio for me, but for you guys SCORE!

Though I cried so much, I understand why he left. If I was in his shoes, I probably would've too.

It just proves what he was telling Bella throughout Twilight: he's willing to hurt himself to keep her safe. He didn't want to leave. None of us wanted him to leave. So, really, I think he made a reasonable decision to leave. I know many will disagree with me because his leaving made them both unhappy, but I do think that it was a kind gesture in many ways: one being that he showed that he really is willing to suffer if he thinks Bella will benefit from it.

That's just my opinion.[/b]

I think you made a good point. Nobody wanted him to leave (give or take the Quiluets, but at that point they dont matter.) Not even Edward, but he did it anyway for the better of everyone. Or so he thought.

I know I'm getting into this thread a little late, but this is such an important topic, I couldn't help put my two cents in.

I'll start off by saying that Edward leaving didn't make me happy in any way. I cried my eyes out like a mad woman, but I understand that it was necessary.

After reading Eclipse, I found out why. Because if Edward hadn't, and Bella hadn't experienced living without him, she wouldn't have exactly how deep their bond was, and she might have chosen Jacob, instead.

Now we get into all this debatable Team Edward/Team Jacob stuff. I'm proudly Team Edward, but I love Jacob, too. Edward leaving opened the door for the love triangle of Eclipse.

So, I guess what I'm saying is that Edward leaving was part of the plot. Where would it have gone if he hadn't? Nowhere.

He made a mistake, but a necessary one.

OKOKOK....ha ha ha, I've given this one a lot of thought and...I think Edward had the right intentions BUT his issue was, at the time, he cared more for Bella's safety than her happiness. I thik he looked at it as "I know what's best for you even if you don't agree. So there." Being that he can read minds, I'm sure he thinks he knows just about everyone as well as they know themselves. Edward's a little bit of a control freak...he wanted what was best for her, but forgot to ask her how she might feel about it. Not to mention he didn't even let her say goodbye to his family, which had become like her family by the time he left!
But imho.....Edward's an only child, right? From a farily well off family in the glamorous Edwardian Era. I'm guessing his parents never said no to him all too often. And really doubt Carlisle or Esme ever did, either. Plus, Carlisle has always questioned whether changing his family was the right thing to do. Edward has listened to these doubts for nearly a century, and when he met Bella, begin that his only real "role model" for this situation was Carlisle, and Carlisle always questioned what he did, Edward probably doubted him and Bella because he had it in his head that it was wrong.
I think what he did was selfish and stupid but in his head, it was right even though it was obviously wrong to everyone else and ended up doing way more harm than good and putting her in way more danger than him saying would have. I'm surprised how quickly Bella forgave him. I would have, too, but not so fast. I mean, he took everything she wanted away from her without even giving her a say in the matter. It's her life, who is he to tell her how to live it?
But I think he learned pretty well from that mistake. By the end of Eclipse, he was finally seeing her side of the story and how unfairly he'd treated her. I'd LOVE to see his reaction if she did that to him. See how it makes him feel to have everything you love taken from you and be able to do nothing about it. Not that I want him to suffer, but that was really insensitive of him.....

I think it was probably the worst mistake ever for Edward to leave Bella.

But.

If you look at it from his P.O.V., you can actually understand why he did it. He thought being in Bella's life was destroying her soul, damaging her chances of getting into heaven, so he did what he thought would be the right thing FOR Bella... he took himself out of the picture. It killed him to do it, but he honestly thought it was the best thing for her.
If you read the extras on SM's website, you'll learn how much pain he was in while he was away... Almost as much as Bella was in, in my opinion.
When he left, he took everything Bella had with him, and it very nearly killed her.
I know I cried so much when I read that. I thought "NO! How could he do that to the woman he loved?! Come backkk!!" haha but I honestly do think he was justified in his leaving. He thought Bella should have a chance at a normal life, free from the dangers of vampires and everything that goes with it, and be happy with her own kind. He thought he was saving her soul, her chance at heaven. It's just quite a shame that he didn't realize that Bella's definition of 'heaven' is anywhere Edward is...

Whether or not I will forgive Edward is a completely ridiculous question: OF COURSE! XD I mean, his heart was in the right place when he left, and he suffered just about as much as Bella did, so yeah haha :]

Also, his leaving made them both realize that they can't live in a world where the other doesn't exist. They both need each other too much to be able to survive without each other. They realize how strong their bond is, and they end up making it stronger because of the time they missed.

He made the worst mistake of his existence, but he did it for the right reasons. He loved Bella so much that he wanted what he thought was the right kind of life, so he took himself out of the picture. It was a necessary risk.

I'm a proud member of Team Edward. :]
