only Edward thinks that vampires dont have souls and who knows if people do either. and you really can't judge one why or another. i figure you don't find out until you die, and then if you don't you'll never know because you'll be dead

but then again, maybe Edward hasn't tried to save his soul. I do know, that if you ask J-man into your heart to save your soul, J-man stays there, where you can ask him for forgiveness.

^^ "J-man" that's a nice euphemism

I mean, I think you're 60% right I just don't look into it that much.

Now I think it means immortality, but immortality without the heavy price Bella would have to pay (losing her soul) because with the power of LOVE (sorry for the cheesyness :)) everything is conquered. So the poem represents a happy ending in spite of the obstacles, and forbidden romance.

i don't think the "J-man" has much to do with the peom

its not considered poliet to discuss religion in public

^^it's not? I'm sorry I didn't know that....
Well, I'm pretty sure that's why she used a euphemism for Jesus. Well, my theory isn't entirely religious.. I was just saying that the poem may foreshadow a happy ending.

sorry, i just get really annoyed when people apply a religious belief system on something where it really is not aplicable or appropiate. i personally think it is extremely limiting.

if a converstion to Jesusness was in the book, it would be in the christian section of the store not the YA section...

The poem was written by a woman who was so liberal for her time that she was probably wishing to return to the childish innocence of a former era in her life. Not only was she considered to be living in sin, but she openly cheated on her husband with women.

As far as the quote goes with the series, Bella was never really a child, although her life's innocence and her life indeed are what's ending.
"Make me immortal with a kiss."
~Christopher Marlowe

"Here are fruits, flowers, leaves, and branches. And here is my heart which beats only for you."

she's in a strange position from the view of the poem since she's giving up innocence to enter her long awaited childhood

Childhood is not from birth to a certain age and at a certain age
The child is grown, and puts away childish things.
Childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies.

I cant remember if this is in Breaking Dawn, like the preface, but if it is, it makes me think that someone will die.

I see it as foreshadowing and that now, Bella is older, she's not a child anymore. She's getting married, she's making her own decisions, she knows the consequences of those decisions and that makes her a grown up.

But now that she's leaving that childhood behind, she's leaving that world where she's protected and now in her new world she's going to deal with grown up things. Like someone dying.
