I heard this on the Dark Knight trailer, but I thought it appropriate:

"The night is always darkest just before dawn."

So.... this probably means that Bella is going to go through another dark stage and Breaking Dawn will be her reemergence/awakening.
You. Are. Genius.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but it's an amazing theory. It would suit it, too, especially if she becomes a vampire. She'll go through her little "dark stage" as you put it when she's a newborn, if she gets changed. Maybe learning to control the "supreme power" some have been speculating.

I'm not sure what the awakening/ rebirth would be, but there would have to be something. If she does turn into a vampire, she'd have to figure herself/ [insert part of plot here] out.

ok so i know this is alittle far fetched but i was thinking and so ya know how in chess if you get a pawn all the way to the other side of the board you ca get a piece back. well i was thinking and what if the queen (since it is the most valuable piece) represents edward and the pawn represents bella (no offense or anything) and what if bella finally gets to save edward!!! i think it is possible but what do you guys think? please tell me if you think this is possible and believable!! thanx (and you can also send me a private message if you want to)!! :D

hmm....it's a good theory, but then again Bella already saved Edward in NM

I've been thinking about who the queen can represent.. and I really think if it was supposed to represent Edward, it would have been a king. I really see it as Bella as a human (pawn) and a vampire (queen)
It goes well with my other theory for the title, too.

i think that is a good point but in chess the queen is the most powerful player and i could represent bella as a vampire but it could b something else so.......

I don't really think the cover is all that mysterious. The red pawn is Bella as a human, the weakest piece. Its behind the queen so that means its the past. The white queen is the present and it is the strongest piece, which is what Bella will be after her change.

I was def surprised when I first saw the cover, but after thinking about it it made total sense. Its almost a guarantee that Bella is going to be a mighty vamp.

^That's exactly what I thought about the cover too! I really, really look at things closely and it might not mean anything, but if you look at the titles of the books, at least one letter is done differently than the other's.......almost like a fang..... it might not be anything, but I thought it was strange when I saw it.

Also, i've been noticing a lot of shows on tv having to do with vampires and stuff. One of my favorite shows, Smallville, had something related to the books on one episode, and then SuperNatural had an episode dealing with vampires (you have to find that episode cause it made a lot of sense to me!) and there's a new tv show on HBO called True Blood......almost like Twilight!

Then, while watching the Harry Potter marathon this weekend, I noticed a lot of stuff and compared them to the twilight books......their kind of close in certain things. I maybe reading to much into it, but a couple of my friends said the same thing when they left after Order of the Phoenix.

Me and my sister brainstormed on what the cover means and I think we finally got it and this is what I believe. I haven't read all the pages of this thread so if its similar to any other theories, my apologies.

The Cover: Think about it. Its chess. What is chess? The thing that jumped out to me was a battle.Chess is a battle. So the small red pawn could represent little battles every character is fighting or going through. If you think about it, they actually are. For example, Charlie, is dealing with Bella getting married in Breaking Dawn && (so many other conflicts). Even though every character is going through something they all face the main battle/conflict. In chess, the queen, overpowers the king, so it's technically your most important piece. So I guess you could say, the most important conflict that the individual battles center around is: Bella's possibility of becoming a vampire. (Which is what the queen piece represents).

Well what do you think? :D
