So i have my own random thought about the cover of breaking dawn... Many times edward and jacob have been referred to as fire and ice. So looking at the cover i was thinking that the white piece could be symbolic of ice and the red piece symbolic of fire, showing that ice wins the game. I may have been reaching a little lol but thats my own little random theory. :)
I'm not coming anymore if Alice is going to treat me like a Guinea Pig Barbie when I do.

While it is a good theory, I wouldn't say that ice wins the game. The pawn is commonly what takes out the queen in chess.

to be truthful, i got a little bit nervous when i saw the cover. to me, it clearly stated that the white chess piece i so close to winning, but the red peice is waiting in the shadows to take it down. im not sure who they represent, if in fact they represent people. the previous covers didnt represent people, but mostly their dilemas. (im, of course, not talking about new moon in this one) i think the red one represents something sinister that the cullens and bella dont know about. like the white one are the cullens and bella, thinking that they made it all the way to the end of the board and are so close to winning, but theres still one little pawn protecting the king of the other side.
oh, and freekin team jane! hope she finds a nice vampire boy thats not quite as hot as edward, but pretty freekin close!

Well, the previous covers kind of did mean people, too, though.

Twilight- the hands are Edward holding the forbidden fruit, which is Bella. He is holding them protectively...
Eclipse- Each side of the ribbon is Edward and Jacob...Bella is torn between the two.

I think the red pawn might be the Volturi trying to take down the Cullens, including "after" Bella (= the Queen). I think a major part of the book will deal with the fight between the Volturi and teh Cullens, a fight which the Cullens will win in the end.

I have to wait till August 4th for the release of Breaking Dawn, so if you don't see me until the 5th, you know why!

I agree with you, but I also have a few theories of my own. One being that the cullens are the main piece. I got that from the Cullens being the all mighty vampire clan. They are one of the strongest and they are, feared, so to speak. So the question is, if the Cullens are the main, white, bigger piece...who is the red piece farther back on the board-kind of lurking around the corner. Maybe the red piece is another toe out of the doorway. Maybe the red piece is the Denali, or the Volturi, or maybe it's Jacob. All I'm getting is that the red piece is a blockade for the Cullens, as well as Bella. I don't agree with all of you who interpert the red piece as Bella being a newbord. There's just too much to ge through in the book for that to be the main theme of BD. They would have to get married, do the dirty, go to college....not in that order of course, but it would have to happen before Bella is changed into a vamp.

Another cover theory that keeps coming back to me is that Bella is the main piece. I am kind of getting the feel of Bella as the destroyer-like person. She holds the future of the pack and the clan in her hands, hence her being the larger white piece(in another book series I'm reading, the personal destroyer of a vampire-god-like person wears a white coat, white is symbolic for the holder of man kind, life and in this case). It all depends on who she chooses, if she chooses at all. I kind of feel that, since Edward can not read her thoughts, that she is the missing link between the clan and their future, or the wolf pack and their future. Maybe then, if this is the case, than the red piece is Bella's other side, her councouns(sp?). The red piece could symbolize her decision, right and wrong, ice and fire, good and bad....Jacob and Edward.
"So in the end, was it worth it? How irreparably changed my life has become. It's always the last day of summer and I've been left out in the cold with no door to get back in. Life passes most people by while they're making grand plans for it. Throughout my lifetime, I've left pieces of my heart here and there. And now there's almost not enough to stay alive, but I force a smile knowing that my ambition far exceeded my talent. There are no more white horses or pretty ladies at my door."

thats brilliant. i also agree, theres wayyyy to much going on for the main theme to be her being a newborn. i think "if" (and its a pretty small "if") she gets changed, her power is going to be something fabulous like being able to control herself or something equally as cool as that. i mean, rosalie never tasted human blood, and she didnt even have anyone before to tell her how bad it felt to drink human blood.

The white peice is the king. & I think that, that symbolizes that the white is the cullen's(including bella) and the red is the Vulturie(sorry can not spell). And that means that the Cullen's win against the Vulturie and change bella before they can kill her.

Just a thought:

I heard this on the Dark Knight trailer, but I thought it appropriate:

"The night is always darkest just before dawn."

So.... this probably means that Bella is going to go through another dark stage and Breaking Dawn will be her reemergence/awakening.
