I think its funny how Charlie is all grumpy about them getting married he was so hoping Renee would have a problem with it...hehe...I'm glad the way Renee acted it didn't seem to out of character for her, she knew things were more serious then Bella would say when they went to visit her in EC, also Bella has said her mom thinks of her as her middle-aged teen, always more grown up then others her age

i totally agree, i found it hilarous how Charlie assumed Bella was pregnant XD after their awkward conversation in Eclipse (i think) i almost died. I'm the same with my dad & we NEVER talk about that kind of stuff, my dad's also a cop so i have that intimidation thing going for any future boyfriends haha. But yeah i found it normal for CHarlie to freak & then leave it up to Renee to change their minds...i was also pleased with Renee's reaction since we already knew how she viewed Bella- she trusts her & knows how mature her daughter is...overall i loved every minute of the description of both parent's reactions.

yeah but I wonder how much of charlie's dislike for edward isn't so much overprotectiveness for bella but that natural sense of aversion all humans are supposed to have toward Vampires. Just a thought....

Or then again it could just be Charlie being over bearing and over protective!

I don't think it has anything to do with a "natural sense of aversion" Charlie might have toward Edward because he's a vampire. Charlie seems pretty clueless in that area (even when it comes to what should be his "natural instinct"). I think Charlie's negative attitude toward Edward stems entirely from Edward breaking Bella's heart in New Moon. He still hasn't forgiven Edward for that (and he probably thinks Bella forgave him too easily, so maybe he's adding on a bit of extra dislike just to compensate ) I don't think Charlie had any problems with Edward before New Moon, he seemed quite fond of him in fact.

And I don't really think he's being over bearing. He's just concerned for his daughter; he doesn't want her to get hurt again. I would probably feel that way too.

Yeah you're probably right!! He did sour a bit when Edward broke Bella's heart and justly so though he did go a bit overboard with the theatrics. It's hard to regain trust once it is lost. And Charlie is a bit pig headed too. and... a bit ignorant to things that are right in front of him..like hmmm... why does Edward never eat with them? It has never seemed to occur to charlie to ask about that, or the many other little funny quirks that should alert him to things not quite right.... And he is right to be concerned for his daughter. I would hope most if not all Dad's should be concerend for their kids.

I think he does feel that Bella did forgive Edward too easily..and truly I think so too. Edward should have sweated that out a bit more in my opinion. Too bad he didn't think his first action though carefully enough before hurting her in NM. But apparently wqe have to let bygones be bygones. :? Charlie really did like Edward before NM. In fact he had a rather high opinion of him and his family at that point. But even by the end of EC it seemed he still had a lot of trouble with Bella accepting him back so easily into her life. Sigh....

Charlie has been extremely ignorant. As Edward says in Eclipse, he'd rather swallow Bella's lies and lie to himself than look to closely. It's kind of a selective ignorancy.

Charlie, right near the end, seemed to be starting to like Edward again. Or maybe he was forcing himself to like him a bit, because he finally realized that he was Bella's choice, and he couldn't change that (and he had better learn to live with it).

Yup, SM likes to surprise us. Which is why all our theorizing will probably be for nothing. I doubt we'll come anywhere close to what the actual story is like!
