SM - The Volturi

To me, the section wit hthe Volturi was one of the most fascinating and frightening things I've read in a long time. Very original and a bit twisted, one of the first things I asked Stephenie about when I finished the book was, "Where did you come up with all of that?" So many of the gifts the Volturi have a just down right scary. And the fact that they want Alice and Edward to join them gives me the creeps. What was your reation to them as a group?

I thought like you that they were fascinating, I was somewhat creeped out by some of their talents and whatnot, but I was just so happy that Edward was around again that I probably wasn't as worried as I should have been. I was thrilled that there was and expansion of the Twilight world and it just laid down a whole foundation for so many things. Not to mention I loved the fact that they were hidden under the city, I loved the part where they were jumping down the tunnels.

Alice and Edward were always special for their powers, but since they were the only vampires around and they (Jasper too) had powers I think we didn't really realize how special they were. The Volturi only helped point this out even more.

I loved that they couldn't do a thing to Bella I mean I was practically jumping out of my seat. Bella's definitely special (duh.) and I seriously can't wait until we can find out what her 'special power' would be.

I thought they were the most interesting addition to the world. It makes what Edward has been doing to be with Bella seem all the more special and the phrase "I figured since I was going to hell with it, I might as well do it thoroughly".

As a group they were absolutely terrifying and if Edward wanted to be killed I think they would definitely be the best way. I found them absolutely fascinating and I hope we get to see them again, very soon.

There is so much more to talk about on the Volturi, but I would love to hear what everyone else feels about them.

I found Heidi terrifying. More terrifying than Jane. (Might be her fashion sense. The street walker look is soooo last year. )

The old ones were interesting. I am curious what Caius' gift is, because I suspect that for all the talking Aro did, I don't think he is the real boss. Since Caius neither revealed his talent nor said much, I think his talent is either really powerful or nasty or both and that he is the real boss.

I thought it interesting that Aro was so super-enthusiastic. And friendly and sociable. All that was missing that he was greeting everyone (even sullen Edward and the human Bella) with a kiss on the cheek and a "darling, so good to see you." Hilarious, and most probably fake. I think he is a wolf in sheep skin even for vampire standards, although it would be much more fun if he was into the whole "let's be a big happy family together" thing for real. He's definitely not what I expected a Volturi to be.

I am curious what the Volturi really think about Carlisle unorthodox way of living. They already envy him his talented children and by giving Edward an ultimatum about Bella's change, they've actually challenged him. They've threatened his family and basically say that they don't trust him to handle the Bella issue himself. Well, I guess we will see in Eclipse where this goes.

Well I agree, I was just happy Edward was back, because well you knew they weren't going to die. The only power that was interesting was Janes. I mean whats the big deal about seeing relationships, but that might come back later. I also wondered if Bella's immune to Edward and Aro, how come she's not immune to Jasper.

I was curious that Bella noted that Marcus, Caius, and Aro had very thin skin, and the fact that Aro seemed to have cataracts or something else wrong with his eyes. Since these are the oldest vampires we know of (?), it almost seems to say that vampires can age, even if it's just very slowly. Or maybe after a certain length of time, their strength just begins to fade away.

That's a really good theory, BrightEyes. I hope Mrs. Meyer touches a bit on that in future installments. It'd definitely be interesting to learn what was going on with that.

As for the Volturi, they were great. Aro's character was pretty interesting. Afterall, I thought it was sort of strange to find a vampire with as much-enthusiasm, I suppose-about the Cullens and their powers. And Jane frightens me. Seriously. She's totally brought the whole, "if looks could kill" thing into perspective for me. I had to reread the section where she used her powers, just to figure out what was going on.

On another note, I was surprised to find that Bella's ability to block out Edward also applied to other vampires, too (although, that leaves me wondering why Alice's power works with her...). In Twilight, I didn't read all that much into it, but now I'm a bit curious as to what's going on with her there.

Am I the only one who liked Aro? I don't know, he just seemed so happy-go-luck for a creepy old "royal" vampire. I kind of wanted to hug him... Marcus and Caius, and most definately Jane, though, scared me quite a bit. I am also curious as to why their skin is so papery, and their eyes clouded. I thought that vampires don't change...but I'm assuming that they didn't all look like that before the change. The Volturi's scare me, but intrigue me. As of right now, intrigue is winning, though.

The Volturi made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. They just creeped me out beyond all reason. I was half expecting one of them to mull Bella and rip her throat clean out. I was even more surprised when they just let her go. It was very...unexpected. Then again, so is everything else in Mrs. Meyer's works.

I adored the Volturi'"they were so creepy, so powerful, so frightening, it was just awesome! They deserve their own book; can you imagine how many stories they must have behind them? I mean, they must have such histories, living so long as they have, the way they have. It's absolutely mind-boggling (in a good way!).

i have to agree they were cool, scary but cool and interesting, but i do hope stephenie meyer could explain to us why they look weird
