the denali clan seem to be a sort of safe harbor for the cullens: edward fled from forks to alaska to stay with them with the intention of staying with them forever, to be far away from bella but as we all know, he changed his mind. and when the cullens had to leave forks due to edward's decision they all met up with the denali clan during the spring break, which is where alice had her vision of bella "committing suicide"

I would think that the Cullens and the Denali Clan would be really close, because they live together for a long time. The only reason they seperated was because it was becoming suspicious that they all lived together, and probably because of the decline in the local wildlife population.
The Cullens and Denali's are probably like family.

I would think that now though, their relationship is very stressed. Afterall, the Cullens did ally with the Quileutes, who killed Laurent. Even if it was to protect Bella, whoever it was that was in love with Laurent (her name is evading me. ahhh!!) obviously didn't see it as justified because they refused to help the Cullens because they were allied with the Quileutes against Victoria. Now, even though we don't know if it was ever going to happen again, the two clans could probably never reunite.

Another though... I thought that even though the Cullens and Denali's lived together for at least several decades, that they would still operate like seperate halfs. Like, Carlisle still made decisions for the Cullens and just worked out an agreement with Eleazar, as oppose to them being an undivided coven.

I think that's what happened too. They were separate covens to begin with, they just merged together for that period, and then they separated again. You can't really have two leaders leading the same thing. They might have worked together, but in the end they were probably working as two different... I dunno entities I suppose.

I would think then that Eleazar (he leads the Denali coven, right?) and Carlisle would make joint decisions. And then if anything affected just their coven members, they would make the absolute decision.

Yeah that's what I mean. They would have worked together when the two covens were together. But in the end they're still separate covens. As you've said, "separate halves".

I don't think they do. Especially if they lived in the same place as they did when the Cullens first came to Forks, when Jacob's grandfather was leader of the tribe. And they must still live in the same place or near it because the Cullens call them the Denalis.
They must live somewhere in the woods, away from humans, because otherwise someone would notice that they don't age and never go grocery shopping.

Yes, exactly. That's why I asked. Because if they live away from human civilization, and if they only stay in one place, what do they do with their lives?

Hmm... they probably do what vampires usually do, just they don't hunt people. I would think that whatever they do is the same thing they'd be doing if they were human, just now they're really strong and can run really fast.

Or maybe they have two houses and alternate between them. Kind of like the Cullens. Didn't they go back to Chicago after the first time they came to Forks? So maybe the Denalis still live in town but they alternate between two houses in different parts of Alaska.

Didn't Edward sort of clam up when Bella asked about Tanya? Stephenie has made allusions to the fact that they might have had a relationship of sorts in the past.

Yea but he said that he hadn't even kissed anyone before Bella so it couldn't have been that serious of a relationship. IMO she probably had a crush and spent a lot of time pursuing Edward but he just refused her. Probably beause she is one of the originators of the succubus legend and I don't really think Edward would go out with someone who he didn't think would be completely devoted to him.

Does anyone besides me think that a former memeber of the Denali coven was the Vampire that attacked the Quiletes in the past? All it said in Eclipse is that the creatures came from the north, and that when the sons of Taka Aki went after them it lead them " far to the north". Also, the female vampire that came to the wolves was a blonde. Tanya is a blonde. Maybe the fight with the wovles and the resulting death of the two vamps lead the other members of the Denali coven to see what they had done, and change their ways.

Thoughts anyone? Maybe my imagination is just in over drive.
