1. Is it selfish of Bella to ask Edward to sit out the battle, knowing that it will increase the danger to the rest of his family?

In my opinion, if the battle was going to be as easy as they were saying it was, even that "someone could sit out" then it wasn't that selfish. She was the one in danger, she was the one Victoria was after, leaving her with only one werewolf for protection was stupid on their part. I was literally glaring at the book during that part. Besides, it turned out it was a good thing to have Edward there with her, didn't it?

2. When Bella asks Edward to sit out the battle for her, he looks into her eyes for a long time. She sees his eyes "tighten with some emotion I couldn't read" before he picks up the phone to call Alice and make the necessary arrangements. What do you think was going through his mind?

What was going through his mind was the time that he left her in New Moon. He felt extremely guilty because of that and he never wanted her to feel that way ever again. He felt the icy grip of guilt once again, so of course he said that he would stay with her.

3. Do Edward and Alice really believe the danger from the newborns is as trivial as they say, or are they trying to make Bella feel better?

I think they think it will be trivial, especially with the werewolves helping them. They have powers that the newborns will not have, they will be level-headed, and they will have the element of surprise (from the werewolves) on their side.

4. Why do you think Bella feels it's more like being with the old Jake -- "easy, effortless, as natural as breathing in and out" -- when he is in wolf form?

Because when Jacob is in his wolf form all the human emotions fall away and its just him and his animal instincts. He's probably more laid back because of this, less of the complications on his mind, so he's more like "her Jacob".

one, i thought bella was being EXTREMELY selfish here. it was ridiculous. even though she has a vague excuse to worry, i dont think she realized that she was being as selfish as she was. if she did, she would have let edward go to help his fam. but i think she's got some good intuition there, because if she haddnt had edward stay, she would be a victoria chew toy!
oh, and freekin team jane! hope she finds a nice vampire boy thats not quite as hot as edward, but pretty freekin close!

sry. leah im going to have to disagree wit you... i dont think bella was being selfish- in my mind bella asked edward 2 stay for protection and comfort when she needed it, when da cullens and werewolves were fighting_she could have had an spazz atack or rushed to da hospital because of hitting her head on da floor after she had fainted!

also- she would have been victoria's weak/tastful prey! da book would have been weird if victoria had ended up changing bella-or ended up killin her.

ever1 who read this- think of it this way. if you think a char. could have acted differently- think of how the rest of the book would have finished and we all love how the books are now!!
p.s. go green and stay true 2 you are music and books! <P> <br><textarea><a href="http://www.mybannermaker.com/link.php?nurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mybannermaker.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/4488/mybanner486e8d68c7fedux5.jpg" alt='Create your own banner at mybannermaker.com!'></a><br></textarea>

1. Is it selfish of Bella to ask Edward to sit out the battle, knowing that it will increase the danger to the rest of his family?

Absolutly not. cos she didnt just ask him to sit out. she asked to either be there wiht him and help however she could or for him to sit out and stay with her. it was edward that chose to sit out.

2. When Bella asks Edward to sit out the battle for her, he looks into her eyes for a long time. She sees his eyes "tighten with some emotion I couldn't read" before he picks up the phone to call Alice and make the necessary arrangements. What do you think was going through his mind?

I think it was partly guilt for making her feel so bad and partly concern and worry that she would do something stuipd, again :)

3. Do Edward and Alice really believe the danger from the newborns is as trivial as they say, or are they trying to make Bella feel better?

absolutly. of course they beleive that it is going to be easy. they got everything on their side, suprise, skill and a whole pack of wolves

4. Why do you think Bella feels it's more like being with the old Jake -- "easy, effortless, as natural as breathing in and out" -- when he is in wolf form?

because he can't talk and say some of the really stupid things that he comes out with. he is much more relaxed and he lets his guard down a lot more.

1. Is it selfish of Bella to ask Edward to sit out the battle, knowing that it will increase the danger to the rest of his family?

I thought it was. She could have stayed with Seth. But in the end Victoria ended up showing up. So Its a good thing he stayed :D

2. When Bella asks Edward to sit out the battle for her, he looks into her eyes for a long time. She sees his eyes "tighten with some emotion I couldn't read" before he picks up the phone to call Alice and make the necessary arrangements. What do you think was going through his mind?

He was thinking about the time he left her in NM, He didn't want to do that again, so he stayed.

3. Do Edward and Alice really believe the danger from the newborns is as trivial as they say, or are they trying to make Bella feel better?

I think they think it will be trivial. Because they have the help of the pack. :D

4. Why do you think Bella feels it's more like being with the old Jake -- "easy, effortless, as natural as breathing in and out" -- when he is in wolf form?

Because when he's in wolf form, he's more like "her Jake"

1. Is it Selfish of Bella to ask Edward to sit out the battle, knowing that it will increase the danger to the rest of his family?

In a sense, it was. She would have been fine with just Seth. That is, until Victoria showed up. In the long run it was good to have him there, but at the time, I believe it was a bit selfish of her...

2. When Bella asks Edward to sit out the battle for her, he looks into her eyes for a long time..... (etc.)

He was relieving the scene in the woods in NM. Of course he couldn't do that to her again (after seeing her broken in Jacob's mind how could he?) so he stayed. Reluctantly.

3. Do Edward and Alice really believe the danger from the newborns is as trivial as they say, or are they trying to make Bella feel better?

In Bella's mind I definately think that them saying this was a good consolation. She was still skeptical, but it eased her fears a small bit. But b/c of the pack, I believe that to a certain degree, it was trivial.

4. Why do you think Bella feels it's more like being with the old Jake--- "easy, effortless, as natural as breathing in and out"--- when he is in wolf form?

Because of Jake's wolf form, and their past, I think that she feels this way b/c he is more like "her Jake". She connects more with his soul in a way then she does with his ever spewing fountain of sarcastic comments and hateful loathing towards the 'bloodsuckers'. She feels more like it did before the "gang" and the pack. Even though he is a wolf...

the way she made him stay sort of pissed me off. she WAS selfish. and she realized it, but she went through with it anyway! but i guess i could see where she was coming from...abandonment issues and everything.

Selfish?

Post by Crazy_and_Proud » Sun Jul 06, 2008 6:31 pm

1. Is it selfish of Bella to ask Edward to sit out the battle, knowing that it will increase the danger to the rest of his family?
Well, it seems selfish to her because she truly believes that she is either Asking him to choose her over his family, or asking to stay with her instead of fighting...to do what HE can just like she wants to do her part.

2. When Bella asks Edward to sit out the battle for her, he looks into her eyes for a long time. She sees his eyes "tighten with some emotion I couldn't read" before he picks up the phone to call Alice and make the necessary arrangements. What do you think was going through his mind?
I think he was remembering Jacobs memories, thinking how worried HE would be if she was over there with only (only in his mind) a fifteen year old werewolf for her protection, and also fear of what would happen if SOMEhow she found a way to the clearing.
3. Do Edward and Alice really believe the danger from the newborns is as trivial as they say, or are they trying to make Bella feel better?
I think that they would be more worried if they didn't have the werewolfs for protection. Werewolfs...YAY we win!!! No wolfs....who do we lose?

4. Why do you think Bella feels it's more like being with the old Jake -- "easy, effortless, as natural as breathing in and out" -- when he is in wolf form?
He doesn't talk so he can't say things to upset her, confuse her, or annoy her. She loves him deep down...even a Team Edward member I can't deny that...but some times when he talks she kind of wants to strangle him...
""But I am a werewolf," he said unwillingly . "And he is a vampire," he added with obvious revulsion.
"And I'm a Virgo!" I shouted, exasperated."

1. Is it selfish of Bella to ask Edward to sit out the battle, knowing that it will increase the danger to the rest of his family?
At first I thought it was a bit selfish of her, but in the end, it was a good thing Edward was there.

2. When Bella asks Edward to sit out the battle for her, he looks into her eyes for a long time. She sees his eyes "tighten with some emotion I couldn't read" before he picks up the phone to call Alice and make the necessary arrangements. What do you think was going through his mind?
I think he was torn for a moment. He wanted to fight, but he also felt like he had an obligation to Bella. She didn't want him to leave her "again". Not to mention the fact that Jacob wasn't really Edward's idea of protection for Bella.

3. Do Edward and Alice really believe the danger from the newborns is as trivial as they say, or are they trying to make Bella feel better?
I honestly think they believed it was trivial because when it came time, they fought the newborns with no problem. Of course, they also knew it would throw the vampires of when they saw that they had the werewolves to help them. Edward even fought off Victoria alone without getting a single scratch on him.

4. Why do you think Bella feels it's more like being with the old Jake -- "easy, effortless, as natural as breathing in and out" --
when he is in wolf form?
The only thing I can really think of...is the fact that he can't talk. He is her protector, as he was when Edward left.

1. Is it selfish of Bella to ask Edward to sit out the battle, knowing that it will increase the danger to the rest of his family?

Yes...and no. I think it's hard to respond to this question when you know the outcome, and how necessary it was for Edward to be with Bella.

2. When Bella asks Edward to sit out the battle for her, he looks into her eyes for a long time. She sees his eyes "tighten with some emotion I couldn't read" before he picks up the phone to call Alice and make the necessary arrangements. What do you think was going through his mind?

I think he's just considering how difficult it will be for his family if he doesn't join in...plus, it's sort of a "male" thing--HE wants to be the one to destroy Bella's enemies.

3. Do Edward and Alice really believe the danger from the newborns is as trivial as they say, or are they trying to make Bella feel better?

They are completely just trying to make her feel better. The newborns are crazily thirsty and stronger than other vampires...but what else could they do?

4. Why do you think Bella feels it's more like being with the old Jake -- "easy, effortless, as natural as breathing in and out" -- when he is in wolf form?

No pressure...he isn't trying to make out with her or have some other "uncomfortable" physical contact with her.
