1. In what ways does Bella identify with the third wife?

*She was a human female, no special powers, she was in love with someone that is not quite human. The third wife, like Bella, did not want any one to get hurt because of her, she wanted to do something to save those she loved. She did this by sacrificing herself.

2. Could Taha Aki be alive today? Discuss theories.

*He could be...werewolves don't age until they STOP morphing...Taha Aki never un-morphed.

3. What do you think Jacob is hoping will change by taking Bella to the meeting?

* Jacob is hoping that Bella will start to think of the VAMPIRES as the bad guys and the WEREWOLVES as the good guys.

4. Why is Bella so disturbed by the idea of Edward's identification with Heathcliff?

* I believe that when Bella saw the words "DRINK HIS BLOOD" her first thought was that Edward would kill Jacob. What she didn't see was that Edward was associating himself with the fact that as long as Bella wanted Jacob in her life, he (EDWARD) would leave Jacob alone..because Edward loves Bella so much and wants her to be happy.

1. In what ways does Bella identify with the third wife?
She's the only human among the mythical legends that she lives among and she knows that her life could be the turning point. She is the weakest link and she feels that she puts all those trying to protect her in danger. If she thinks sacrificing herself to save someone else would work, she would do it without hesitation.

2. Could Taha Aki be alive today? Discuss theories.
It's possible but only because the wolves live longer when they phase. I think if he stayed in wolf form he could still be around but I think it's highly unlikely because he was mourning his wife so much. I get the impression that the third wife was the wife he imprinted on which meant she was his gravity, his life, his heart, his soul, the reason for living. I don't think he would want to live an eternity without her.

3. What do you think Jacob is hoping will change by taking Bella to the meeting?
I think he was trying to make her see the who realty of the situation. As surreal as it is, he wants her to know that they came about from good, the wolves were never meant for anything other than protecting their people. That vampires have always been evil and created death and destruction in their wake.
More than anything I think he wants her to understand.

4. Why is Bella so disturbed by the idea of Edward's identification with Heathcliff?
I thinks she believes Heathcliff had a dark soul, that he never really had good intentions, as she states he has no redeeming qualities. She see's Edward as light and goodness in Twilight she refers to him as her angel. She can never see him being so cruel.

1. I think Bella identifies with the third wife, because she is surrounded by mythical creatures, and many times she has had to sit on the sidelines and watch because she was human. She admires the third wife because she was able to find a way to help, which Bella so desperately wants to do.

2. Yes, I think Taha Aki could be alive today. Werewolves don't age until they give up their forms. I think it would be cool if Taha Aki had stayed alive and watched the tribe as it grew, sort of like its ultimate protector, ready and waiting to avenge his wife's death if it ever came to a large fight with vampires. I also think it would be cool if Jacob meets Taha Aki when he is off in his wolf form like at the end of the book, and Taha Aki convinces him to go back home, because his love still lives, and he still has a duty to protect the tribe.

3. I think Jacob was trying to show Bella the rich history of the werewolves. He wanted to show her that they have always been the good guys, and that vampires have always been evil, no matter who they are. This is another way he 'shows her her options'.

4. Bella is disturbed by Edward's association with Heathcliff, because although she doesn't want to admit it, Edward has a much darker soul than Bella's narration would imply. She doesn't want to think about Edward wanting to kill Jacob, she doesn't want to think about him wanting to kill anyone.

1.In what ways does Bella identify with the third wife?
I think Bella can identify with the third wife because amid all these nonhuman, she's just a normal girl who fell in love with someone who isn't human. Bella would do anything to protect Edward, but I think she feels like there isn't much she could do. By hearing this story, she starts to think about the possibility of sacrificing herself for Edward.
2. Could Taha Aki be alive today? Discuss theories.
Gosh, I never really though about it. I guess so, since wolves don't age until they stop phasing, and he never did stop his transformations.
3.What do you think Jacob is hoping will change by taking Bella to the meeting?
I think on one hand, he just wants to spend time with her. On the other hand, maybe he's hoping she'll start to see the vampires as the bad guys, and the werewolves as the good guys.
4.Why is Bella so disturbed by the idea of Edward's identification with Heathcliff?
Bella (as she mentioned in Eclipse) doesn't think Heathcliff has any good traits about him, but to her, Edward couldn't be a better person. I don't think she wants to think about Edward killing anyone or hurting anyone, even though she knows he has.

1. In what ways does Bella identify with the third wife?
I think she knows she'll have to sacrifice her life in order to be in love with Edward, and also that she's stuck in the middle of a vampire and a werewolf.

2. Could Taha Aki be alive today? Discuss theories.
Hmm, never thought of that. Billy Black, maybe, he hasn't come into the story too much. Haha, and the plot thickens!

3. What do you think Jacob is hoping will change by taking Bella to the meeting?
I think he wants to scare Bella enough to make her shy away from the vampires, or at least make the vampires seem like bad-guys. But I also think he wants her to be on the inside, get so tied up with the werewolves she'll consider leaving the vampires.

4. Why is Bella so disturbed by the idea of Edward's identification with Heathcliff?
Never read Wuthering Heights, I'm more into vampires books. So really, I don't know what the big deal with Heathcliff is, I just kind of play along...

1. She would sacrifice everything for the person she loves. She is someone with no special powers, yet she still has the ability to affect outcomes with these mythical creatures.

2. Possibly, since werewolves heal. But he would have lost the will to live, and since it's unlikely he stayed a werewolf forever, since he still had sons and a whole tribe that needed him, it's extremely unlikely.

3. He wants her view of the vampires to change. He also wants her to understand the hatred he feels for vampires, and the reasons behind it. He wants her to realize exactly what life she will be leading if she becomes a vampire, and what she will be.

4. Bella is trying to not understand what Edward is feeling about her and Jacob. The passage Edward was reading spelled it out for her, but since she loves Jacob (but doesn't know it yet) she focuses on the wrong part. I think her subconciousness begins to understand exactly what she is doing to Edward. And she doesn't want to admit it to herself.

1. In what ways does Bella identify with the third wife?

I think she's caught in the middle, just like the third wife. Also, she must sacrifice her humanity to be with Edward. She loves him and will do it because she wants to be with him, but it still hurts her deeply.

2. Could Taha Aki be alive today? Discuss theories.

He could be, if he stayed away from everything for a while. Maybe he's like Yoda.....The elders of the pack go to him for advice. I think that he may have died from a broken heart. His wife gave a huge sacrifice for him to live, and maybe he just couldn't come to terms with that.

3. What do you think Jacob is hoping will change by taking Bella to the meeting?

I think Jacob is trying to make her see the werewolves side of things. He wants her to feel as if she's a part of his family too, the way she does with the Cullens. Jacob may also be trying to show her what the vampires have done in the past, and hopes it will make her think they are bad.

4. Why is Bella so disturbed by the idea of Edward's identification with Heathcliff?

I haven't read Wuthering Heights yet, it's waiting on my bookshelf, but I think she's afraid that Edward will give up on her again because he loves her. He knows it will be very difficult for Bella and Jacob to remain friends, and he doesn't want to put her in that position. Also, doesn't Heathcliff die? Or is that another main character?

1. In what ways does Bella identify with the third wife?
Obviously she is the human, just like the third wife. She's no vamp (Edward) or wolf (Jake) she's simply the human caught in the middle, the human with the choice, the ability to change the course of the future. Everything is in her hands, just like the third wife.

2. Could Taha Aki be alive today? Discuss theories.
Definitely, I mean hey since Angie's a witch she could just make her special poofing spell and he'll appear and make it all better! Okay, in actuality he probably is alive in some sort of spirit making sure everything's okay for his tribe. I don't think he'll come back or anything but hey anything is possible! (I still think Angela's a witch!)

3. What do you think Jacob is hoping will change by taking Bella to the meeting?
bunny99 wrote: He wants her to feel as if she's a part of his family too, the way she does with the Cullens.
Exactly! He's trying to show Bella the other life, how she could be one of the wolf girls, part of the family, part of the big pack. He's also wanting her to be aware of the vamps past and how they could slip up and he's "safer" in a sense.

4. Why is Bella so disturbed by the idea of Edward's identification with Heathcliff?
Well in that moment all that catches Bella's attention is "drink his blood" and she knows that Heathcliff has the dark aspect to him and all that horrible things she could never associate with Edward. BUT if she had actually read that section she would've realized how much it relates to Edward, how so long as Bella wants Jacob (Cathy wants Edgar) he will never hurt Jacob because that would cause Bella pain and Edward could never intentionally cause her pain. Or, maybe Bella does understand but doesn't want to admit to herself that Edward is thinking like that because she doesn't have feelings for Jake.

1. In what ways does Bella identify with the third wife?
this is something that has been taking me a long time to understand... i'm usually slow with this kind of stuff.. um anyway i think that maybe she identifies with the third wife because she feels that by putting herself in harms way she can help the situation... gah it makes sense in my head....

2. Could Taha Aki be alive today? Discuss theories.
i've never thought of it that way but hmm maybe he could be living out in the wilderness somewhere. maybe Jacob will come across him.

3. What do you think Jacob is hoping will change by taking Bella to the meeting?
He hopes that she will finally see that the vampires are actually the evil ones.

4. Why is Bella so disturbed by the idea of Edward's identification with Heathcliff?
I still have Wuthering Heights on my to be read list so my answer probably means nothing but it might be the fact that he says he wants to drink his blood that disturbs bella.
