I really, really disliked the Seeker. Like, the whole way through.
Preeeetty much wanted to punch her, haha. Even when it was revealed that her host body like..remained,I honestly didn't feel any different towards her.
She was just obnoxious and extremly irritating.

I knew it the second she offered to take Wanderer's spot in Mel's body that something was up with her own body. I mean why would she offer that if before she had completly refused the idea of being a 'Skipper'? I honestly did not like her at all throughout the whole story, I barley even liked the human inside of her.

At first I couldn't stand the seeker. When Wanda said she was annoying, I was like man she's being way to nice. My spidey sense started going off when the seeker started dogging Wanda with the helicopter and stuff, but I was too wrapped up in other things to really give it much thought.

Once I found out that Lacey was still aware in the body, I felt really bad for the seeker, because Lacey wasn't a good person. It seemed that the seeker wasn't strong enough to keep Lacey in check like Wanda kept Mel. I think the behaviors and actions displayed were more Lacey than the seeker.

Even now, I still don't really understand Wanda and Mel's hate for the seeker. The whole time I felt that she was only a minor annoyance, nothing too bad, but the HATED her soooo much and I don't get it. She never did anything TERRIBLE. She's just obsessive and waaaaay too persistant. *shrug* Oh well, she's gone. They'll be happy.
Edward squeezed me gently. "I'm here." I drew a breath. That was true. Edward was here, with his arms around me. I could face anything as long as that was true. I squared my shoulders and walked forward to meet fate, with my destiny solidly at my side.

I thought the Seeker was kind of weak. I mean, when we find out that Lacey was so present inside her, and compare Lacey's personality to the Seeker's personality, they are remarkably similar. I don't think Lacey was taking control, but she definitely had a lot of influence. I can understand the Seeker's desperation to find a way to shut Lacey up. It was her first planet, being a skipper that early would be horrible. I don't think her obnoxious personality was entirely her. Lacey had a lot of influence, and of course there's those "unruly human emotions." She's just a child, dealing with all of that must have been hard for her. I hope she has fun with the flowers.

I think they were more afraid of the threat of the Seeker, not what she actually ever did. Like, what she would have the power to do. Though that never really worked, did it?

I knew from the very, very beginning that the Seeker had the same "problem" with her host as Wanderer. When she was being so loud and emotional, and Wanderer observed that it was out of the norm, I instantly knew that it must've been Lacey's influence.

And I think that the real reason that she wanted to be inserted into Mel was because she wanted to prove that even if she couldn't stifle Lacey, she could do it with Melanie. Though I think she would've lost eventually.

You're right - she definitely would have eventually lost...but I think that's the point of their characters as well - to show that the Souls miscalculated how strong the human spirit was...that it really influenced them far more than just memories and emotions - but that it influences their actual behavior. Even with Pet - remember how Wanda was talking about how shy she would get super shy (even though she didn't want to be), and jumpy and jittery when she got all excited...even though Pet's host was gone, but those remnant influences are intrinsic to the body and still exert influence.

"Hmmmm...," he mused as he quickly finished. "It seems I'm going to have to tamper with your memory."

But was the shyness from Pet, or from the original human? I see more that the tendency to be shy and jumpy and jittey and giggly is a little more biological. Like, in the brain, but not the mind. Does that make sense? Whatever the state of the body the host would get, whether the human spirit was still strong or completely gone, the host would inherit traits from being in the body, not just from the memories.

I think that the reason that the role of the Seeker had become more powerful on Earth was because the hosts really feared humans -- even the Seekers did, but that just fueled their fire. Yes, the planet was wonderful and you had all these great senses and colors, but these humans very overly emotional and violent and had powerful minds that could overpower a host most often than they liked to admit.

Well, Pet was totally gone when Wanda got the body...so it has to be from the original human or whatever was left over given that the human was gone...so I guess what I'm saying is basically the same as your last comment, which I totally agree with:
humans very overly emotional and violent and had powerful minds that could overpower a host most often than they liked to admit
I suppose what SM is insinuating is that there may be some hardwiring in the humans that just can't be overtaken, given certain circumstances.

It's all fascinating!!
