am i the only person who LOVED walter?
he was so kind and elderly and fragile.
i hated how much he suffered, the only part in the book i cried at was when walter died, and when he was suffering, i guess i loved him more because i saw the inevitable coming, when they mentioned 'cancer.' =(

oh and i forgot to add a quote. XD
btu yeah, walter didn't 'speak' much in the book,
i was so afraid kyle was going to hurt walter when they returned from the raid the first time and walter said 'easy, kyle' i was like please don't hit/hurt him ):

There are course the main ones. You are not leaving me, and I held you and you were so beautiful. I really do love Ian.
I'm trying to decide if I love Ian or Edward more. Hm.

This is one that I'm not sure is mentioned yet, but I really love it. It's sickenly true of the world today.

"We made our worlds better places; that was absolutely essential or we did not deserve them. But we were not wasteful. We did make whatever we took better, more peaceful and beautiful. And the humans were brutish and ungovernable. They had killed one another so frequently that murder had been an accepted part of life. The various tortures they'd devised over the millennia they'd lasted had been too much for me; I hadn't been able to bear even the dry official overviews. Wars had raged over the face of nearly every continent. Sanctioned murder, ordered and viciously effective. Those who lived in peaceful nations had looked the other way as memebers of their own species starved on their doorstep. There was no equality to the distribution of the planet's bounteous resources. Most vile yet, their offspring - the next generation, which my kind nearly worshipped for their promise - had all too often been victims of heinous crimes. And not just at the hands of strangers, but at the hands of the caretakers they were entrusted to. Even the huge sphere of the planet had been put into jeopardy through their careless and greedy mistakes. No one could compare what had been and what was now and not admit that Earth was a better place thanks to us." -The Host, page 47.

I have to say that I have a few favourite parts. I have to say that one of them is something that Kathy, Wanda's comforter, said about love

"In so many millennia, the humans never did figure love out. How much is physical, how much in the mind? How much accident and how much fate? why did perfect matches crumble and impossible couples thrive?"

And i would have to say this part made me laugh the most.

"I... felt something when he hit you, Melanie interrupted. The words came slowly. one by one, as if she did want to think them.
I felt something, too. It was amazing how natural it was to use sarcasm now, after spending so much time with Melanie. He's got quite a backhand, doesn't he?"

also this part.

"Get your mind out of the gutter.
It's your mind, I reminded her."

I cried like baby when Ian stole Wanda away and hit in his and Kyles room with her.
"No, Ian. Really kiss me. Like... like you're trying to get slapped."

Not a line but a rather naughty bit:

"...Melanie's experiences had not gone to waste; I had learned from them. Ian was every bit as honorable as Jared, and I was not going to go through the frustration Melanie had.

So I lied, giving myself an extra year. 'I'll be eighteen.' " pg. 605

I had to go back and reread that part after the first time because I didn't get it, but I burst out laughing when I did! Naughty Wanda... Haha she thought of the prospect of Ian "making them wait" as "frustration."

Awesome banner thanks to leaf!

Did you seriously just stamp your foot? I thought girls only did that on TV.

Yes! I really love that part. I'm reading The Host for the second time right now, and I wrote down the part. I also really loved this,
Pg. 548 - Ian stared at the silver ribbon in his hand, his face full of wonder rather than revulsion. It felt warmer inside my chest while I watched his reaction.
"It's pretty," he whispered, surprised. No matter how he felt about me, he'd been conditioned to expect a parasite, a centipede, a monster.

Then, later.... Pg. 605 - "I held you in my hand, Wanderer. And you were so beautiful."

I love how he says it's pretty and just kind of looks awed. But when it's Melanie, it's beautiful. Just thinking about what his face must have looked like while he was holding her makes me tear up.

My favourite is:
"I held you in my hand, Wanderer. And you were so beautiful."

It's so beautiful, it made me cry. And then I read the book again... and it made me cry again.

I heart Ian. *sigh*

I have to say when Jared says, "Hey baby" to Mel (when she takes over Wanda) it was probably the hottest line in the whole entire book xD

I love just about every line that people have put on here, but my favorite is "You. Are. Not. Leaving. Me." Just like that majority of people on here. I love Ian so much!
