Who here was a bigger fan of Ian and Wanda being together than of Melanie and Jared? Personally, my favorite line in the book belongs to Ian with his "You. Are. Not. Leaving. Me." comment. Thoughts? Reactions?

This kind of seems like a reversal of Bella/Edward thinking. This time, it's the GUY who would be left behind and have to mourn the loss, whereas Wanderer would just continue on to another world. I love this pairing... I originally assumed Ian was a creep due to the "love triangle" comment, but I began to like him almost immediately. Mel+Jar is kind of a weird relationship - he's nine years her senior, and they're just so... I don't know. I can't think of words yet.

I like the Ian+Wanderer pairing the most, although the most shocking one is Kyle+Summer. I would assume, after the whole murder fiasco, that he would NEVER get over his aversion to the Souls.

I think I personally had more of a soft spot for Mel and Jared, there was something about his anger towards Wanda, yet the desperate way that he tried to keep her safe from the angry mobs that just says something to me. I found that at the end, even thought I liked Ian, I had more of an attachment to Jared.

I do however think that "Twilight" and "The Host" are two very different books and that the relationships in them can't be compared. Edward is a supernatural depiction of perfection, Jared and Ian are about as human as you can get. They aren't meant to be perfect and they are meant to make mistakes, which they do frequently, and that is what is meant to be the attraction to them I think.

Mee! I usually favor the main couples in books and movies, but for some reason I liked Wanda and Ian A LOT more than Mel and Jared. Melanie and Jared seem to almost love each other out of necessity; the both thought they were pretty much the last humans on the planet. Ian and Wanda on the other hand, seem to have a much more special relationship. Even though Wanda isn't human, even though her species is considered evil on Earth, Ian still falls in love with her. That just seems so much more true lovelike than Melanie and Jared's relationship.

i can say. that commen however made me laugh in the middle of a chem lab so i knocked over "nuclear waste" aka m&ms that we used for the lab but it was quite awsome. your right, though i connect with jared i still cant help but love the who ian wanda thing...i dont know how to describe it and i agree with it being completely backwards of edward bella which is a totally new thing but yet for me, its very interesting and it works so well. ^.^ however this entire book...i just felt so...jared drawn...and i like him with melanie to an extent despite him being 9 years older...then again im a sucker for any relationship that has a chance.

I don't think they loved each other out of necessity other wise Jared would have moved on when he realized Mel was taken, I think however, that they loved each other with the force and desperation of the last people on earth. It wasn't because they had to, but when they did... wow :D I want one.

That's not exactly what I meant; I just don't know how to describe it. I guess... I think the reason they fell for each other was because they thought they were the only humans left, but after living together, getting to know each other, saving each other's life they fell in love with the actual person, not just the human body. That's still not that great an explanation, but I hope it makes more sense?

I loved every relationship in this book because of how unique they were and just how right they seemed in their own quirky way. Wanderer is an alien but Ian falls for the beautiful person she is. Jared and Mel fell in love with this fiery passion but i dont think it was because of the whole "last 2 people on earth" thing. She even said it wasn't because of that. It was fiery between them because he protected her, he needed her and she needed him, he made her feel safe and vis versa. its a differant type of love but love non the less. if you felt that needed and that safe when the world had ended and you were with this man that always smiled and saw the bright side of everything and that genuanly made you happy wouldn't you fall in love too? wouldn't you want to become his everything aswell?

As i said before no favourite loves for me because i love them all :)

This may be slightly biased, as I adored Ian and was not so sure about Jared, but... It's definitely Ian and Wanderer for me. Their love, despite the circumstances, seemed more real, more everlasting. Melanie was always angry at Jared for kissing "Wanderer" even though she had to know, deep down, it was all about herself. Ian knew that Wanderer loved Jared, but he accepted it and loved her all the same.

I agree with Alphie. That "You. Will. Not. Leave. Me." line was swoon-worthy, and showed how devoted Ian was. Melanie's love for Jared... It didn't strike me as the love of a girl in her twenties. Even Bella got angry with Edward from time to time. But as Jared struck out--you couldn't blame him most of the time, but he did--she was always "JARED! OME! JARED! AAAAAH!!!" I do believe that they sincerely loved each other, but Ian and Wanderer's love seemed more mature, more likely to last. There was a slight neccessity with Jared and Melanie in the beginning. Ian and Wanderer were the opposite. They shouldn't have loved each other, but they did.

Well, I am a HUGE sucker for romance of any kind, so any couple mentioned at all in ANY book gets me goin' (Even little side-relationships, like Angela/Ben, Kyle/Sunny, ect...)

But I'm just a total sap like that :P

But I do have to say that Ian/Wanda was my favorite. I agree that "You. Will. Not. Leave. Me." was SO romantic... I definately teared up!

But I think one of my favorites is "I held you in my hand, Wanderer. And you were so beautiful." I literally said "Awww!" outloud when I read that... hahahaha!

I just love the fact that Ian's love for Wanda isn't based on appearance at all. It's just pure love for who she is.
