I'm really happy that I Wasn't Prepared by Eisley was on her playlist. Eisley is one of my favorite bands, and it's good to see them get some love!

The Ghost of You fits perfectly too!

These are the lyrics to Points of Authority by Linkin Park:

Forfeit the game
Before somebody else
Takes you out of the frame
Puts your name to shame
Cover up your face
You can't run the race
The pace is too fast
You just won't last

You love the way I look at you
While taking pleasure in the awful things you put me through
You take away if I give in
My life
My pride is broken

[Chorus:]
You like to think you're never wrong
(You live what you've learned)
You have to act like you're someone
(You live what you've learned)
You want someone to hurt like you
(You live what you've learned)
You want to share what you have been through
(You live what you've learned)

You love the things I say I'll do
The way I hurt myself again just to get back at you
You take away when I give in
My life
My pride is broken

[Chorus]

Forfeit the game
Before somebody else
Takes you out of the frame
Puts your name to shame
Cover up your face
You can't run the race
The pace is too fast
You just won't last

[Chorus]

[Chorus:]
You like to think you're never wrong -- Forfeit the game
(You live what you've learned)
You have to act like you're someone -- Forfeit the game
(You live what you've learned)
You want someone to hurt like you -- Forfeit the game
(You live what you've learned)
You want to share what you have been through
(You live what you've learned)

This is one of my favorite songs by them, so it was actually so awesome to see it on Stephenie's playlist! They've my favorite band in the world, so I adore how much Stephenie loves them too! I was going through the lyrics, though, trying to figure out who's point of view this would be from... I was thinking it could sort of be Melanie... I think it's too angry to be any of the soul's except for the seeker's... So to me, it seemed like the kind of thing Melanie would have said to Wanderer when they were first put together...[/b]

So for the majority of the time I was reading The Host I couldn't get this song out of my head and maybe thats the reason but whatever. I LOVE This song and it fits a lot.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=6v_9H-NmqxY

a vid of the song

MISSY HIGGINS
"Where I stood"

"Where I Stood"

I don't know what I've done
Or if I like what I've begun
But something told me to run
And honey you know me it's all or none

There were sounds in my head
LIttle voices whispering
That I should go and this should end
Oh and I found myself listening

'Cos I dont know who I am, who I am without you
All I know is that I should
And I don't know if I could stand another hand upon you
All I know is that I should
'Cos she will love you more than I could
She who dares to stand where I stood

See I thought love was black and white
That it was wrong or it was right
But you ain't leaving without a fight
And I think I am just as torn inside

'Cos I dont know who I am, who I am without you
All I know is that I should
And I don't know if I could stand another hand upon you
All I know is that I should
'Cos she will love you more than I could
She who dares to stand where I stood

And I won't be far from where you are if ever you should call
You meant more to me than anyone I ever loved at all
But you taught me how to trust myself and so I say to you
This is what I have to do

'Cos I dont know who I am, who I am without you
All I know is that I should
And I don't know if I could stand another hand upon you
All I know is that I should
'Cos she will love you more than I could
She who dares to stand where I stood
Oh, she who dares to stand where I stood

mushroom_ravioli wrote:What was funny was I bought Starlight by Muse, thinking it was on the Twilight playlist (I still don't know), and then I'm like, "Wow, this really reminds me of The Host." And then it was on Stephenie's playlist!

And I totally agree with whoever about the Switchfoot song. Did you hear it on the credits for Prince Caspian?

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking. I thought I read somewhere that Stephenie said Starlight by Muse was on the playlist, but I looked on her website and it wasn't there. Which is a shame, because the lyrics "Please don't fade away, never fade away" are perfect allusions to Jared and Melanie.
"I sat without moving, more frightened of him that I had ever been. I´d never seen him so completely freed of that carefully cultivated facade. He´d never been less human...or more beautiful."

"And if you ever kiss her again, I will break your jaw for her."

So I was wondering whose point of view some of the songs on the playlist were in. I've been listening to it and I can't figure out or I'm not sure whose point of view it's in.

Like the song Futurism. Is it in Melanie's or Wanda's? the lyrics: "Like the evil in your veins," sounds like Wanda talking about how humans are evil. But then the other lyrics:
"Grounded
Boxed in
I am stuck with you" That could be Melanie.

I know:
Soul Meets Body Wanderer
Papercut Wanderer
I Wasn't Prepared Wanderer
Ghost of You Jared
Stockholm Syndrome Melanie
As You Are Ian
Rescued Wanderer

If someone could please post all the songs and whose point of view it's in, if it's not to much trouble, I'd really appreciate it.
"I sat in the blackness of the big hole in the ground and grieved for lost souls with a human at my side."

A few songs I thought fit The Host:

We Are Broken- Paramore
Yeah
Cause we are broken
What must we do to restore
Our innocence
And oh, the promise we adored
Give us life again cause we just want to be whole
This Is Who We Are- Hawthorne Heights
between the sadness and the smile
lies the flicker of the fire
you always said this never hurt you
i always said you were a liar
with all the towers and the wires
there still lies a little silence
two hearts and one connection
one voice lets emotion out
i always knew (i always knew)
All That I'm Living For- Evanscence
I can feel the night beginning
Separate me from the living
Understanding me
After all I've seen
Piecing every thought together
Find the words to make me better
If I only knew how to pull myself apart

Yeah, you're right! It's almost like it was written for The Host
Especially these parts:

"I'm a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout how to give and take
But since I came here, felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake"

"But why all this hate? try to communicate
Finding trust and love is not always easy to make"

Although, Wanda is not really a "new soul," she's thousands of years old, but close enough. :)
"I sat in the blackness of the big hole in the ground and grieved for lost souls with a human at my side."

Better Than Ezra - Desperately Wanting
I remember running through the wet grass
and falling a step behind
Both of us never tiring
Desperately Wanting.

Reminds me so much of when Melanie and Jared first met. It just makes me think of when she's running away from him, and he's chasing her. And the kiss.

Death Cab For Cutie - Bixby Canyon Bridge
I descended a dusty gravel ridge
Beneath the Bixby Canyon Bridge
Until I eventually arrived
At the place where your soul had died

Barefoot in the shallow creek
I grabbed some stones from underneath
And waited for you to speak to me

And the silence, it became so very clear
That you had long ago disappeared
I cursed myself for being surprised
That this didn't play like it did in my mind

All the way from San Francisco
As I chased the end of your road
'cause I've still got miles to go

I want to know my fate if I keep up this way
It's hard to want to stay awake

And everyone you meet they all seem to be asleep
You wonder if you're missing your dream
You can't see your dream
You can't see your dream
You just can't see your dream

Dream [x12]

Then it started getting dark
And I trudged back to where the car was parked
No closer to any kind of truth
As I must assume was the case with you

This song makes me think about Jared, and how he must've felt when he learned Melanie was no longer, well, Melanie. He wants to grieve, but he knows for his own sake, he has to pick up the pieces and keep on living.

Bright Eyes -Lover I Don't Have To Love

Ian to Wanda:
Your tongue in my mouth
Trying to keep the words from coming out
You didn't care to know
Who else may have been you before

Wanda/Melanie + Jared
I got a hunger and I can't seem to get full
I need some meaning I can memorize
The kind I have always seems to slip my mind

Wanda kissing Ian, than Jared. I dunno, it just seems right, listen, and you'll get what I'm saying. kind of seems like a song about letting go, and hooking up with someone? Really depressing and frantic, which is perfect, because Wanda's desperately trying to contact Melanie.

Indio/Eddie Vedder - Hard Sun

when I walk beside her
i am the better man
when I look to leave her
I always stagger back again
once I built an ivory tower
so I could worship from above
and when I climbed down to be set free
she took me in again

there's a big
a big hard sun
beaten on the big people
in the big hard world

when she comes to greet me
she is mercy at my feet
when I see her pin her charm
she just throws it back again
once I sought an early grave
to find a better land
she just smiled and laughed at me
and took her blues back again

Reminds me of the entire book. This song sounds desert-y and full of hope.

Collide by Howie Day

The dawn is breaking
A light shining through
You're barely waking
And I'm tangled up in you

I'm open, your closed
Where I'll follow you'll go
I worry I won't see your face
Light up again

Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills my mind
I somehow find you and I collide

I'm quiet you know
You make a first impression
I've found I'm scared to know
I'm always on your mind

Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the stars refuse to shine
Out of the back you fall in time
Somehow find you and I collide

Don't stop here
I lost my place
I'm close behind

Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills your mind
You finally find you and I collide
