Music Director Alexandra Patsavas

Discussion about the Twilight movie. It's all speculation until Summit Films actually produces a script and casts it.

lol, sorry ashFLASH but I just hate that bland corny contempo-rock that you hear EVERYWHERE like they use on Greys.... ;p I've also said in the soundtrack thread that they really shouldn't use anything that's been featured in another movie or tv show... these days all music directors seem to do is copy each other and rehash old stuff ya know? And by 'using' Stephanie's playlist I think we all agree Alex shouldn't copy it exactly but just gain some ideas from it... ;p As I've also said in the soundtrack thread I'm hoping for some Evanescence (this style of music suits the genre perfectly I think) but that's partly because I'm an avid fangirl lol.

BuddyTV.com Interview w/ Alex; Grey's. Article Here.

Do you believe that music can truly manipulate the impact of a scene?

Alex: I think that music can enhance it. I think that if the shot, if everything isn't already in place, like, great music can't make a bad scene good but great music can make a good scene better.

How do you know what makes the perfect combination of scene and song? How do you make a match?

Alex: I think that it's really...it's about finding a song that really does enhance the acting, the drama, and the storytelling. And, a scene that really allows the song to shine as well. You know, plenty of songs get overlooked because they're so far back, but when a song can really get highlighted I think it makes the most impact.

So is the process different for television and movies?

Alex: No. The only difference is that the time frame is completely compressed in television. In a movie you might have six months or seven months from the time that the movie is shot to the time that it's mixed. In television we can have, typically, a week turnaround. So you know, it's a difference between months and weeks.

You've done a variety of different shows, from The OC to Shark to Grey's Anatomy. How do you find inspiration for such different types of shows and genres?

Alex: I think the best part about being a supervisor is that you really sort of sit in the middle of a creative fulcrum. We work very closely with the show's producers but also work closely in the music industry to find new acts, new tracks. And I think you know the creative challenge is just bringing to life what the producer sees for the show.

Buddy: How much does your personal taste influence your choices?

Alex: I think that my personal taste is, you know, you can't get away from your own taste. But the job is certainly about combining your personal taste with what works best for the show.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Alex: When people wonder about music supervision, it's not just about the creative choice, it's also about responsible budgeting, clearance, you know, budgeting your time. It's definitely, like, it's not only a creative task, but a very business-oriented task as far as pulling the rest of it together. The business of music supervision is essential to its success.

UGO.com Interview w/ Alex; The OC. Article Here.

How does the process work? Do you start from a script, or do you wait until a scene is shot?

Alexandra: It works in a lot of ways, actually. Josh sometimes scripts music, and so right when we get the first draft of the scripts, we start to clear music that he's thought of. Sometimes, the editors temp music in. Sometimes, we pitch for specific scenes when they're looking for music, well into the editorial process.

It sounds like there's a lot of input. Is that ever difficult for you, with all these different voices chiming in?

Alexandra: No, that's sort of the job. I mean, music is really emotional for people. Everyone has favorites, and sounds that they like and bands that they like, so, I mean, the job is sort of synthesizing all those opinions and trying to find music that works.

Ah, sorry for the long post. But I thought this could have some more in sight of a music-supervisor job and Alex's music choices threw TV and Films. My personal favorite is the last bit of the UGO's article; I'm pretty sure there going to be a mix of mainstream and a un-known Indies threw Twilight. This Soundtrack is going to be amazing :]

``suposedly`` (I`m not sure...)

but acording to someone on the imdb boards, ``I Will Love You, Always and Forever`` will be used, but will be recorded by someone else.

Here at the lyrics:

Feels like I'm standing in a timeless dream
Of light mists of pale amber rose
Feels like I'm lost in a deep cloud of heavenly scent
Touching discovering you

Those days of warm rains come rushing back to me
Miles of windless summer night air
Secret moments shared in the heat of the afternoon
Out of the stillness soft spoken words
Say say it again

CHORUS:
I love you always forever
Near or far close and together
Everywhere I will be with you
Everything I will do for you

I love you always forever
Near or far close and together
Everywhere I will be with you
Everything I will do for you

You've got the most un-belivable blue eyes I've ever seen
You've got me almost melting away
As we lay there under a blue sky with pure white stars
Exotic sweetness a magical time
Say say it again

I love you always forever
Near or far close and together
Everywhere I will be with you
Everything I will do for you

I love you always forever
Near or far close and together
Everywhere I will be with you
Everything I will do for you

Say you'll love love me forever
Never stop never whatever
Near and far and always and everywhere and everything
Say you'll love love me forever
Never stop never whatever
Near and far and always and everywhere and everything

Say you'll love love me forever
Never stop never whatever
Near and far and always and everywhere and everything
Say you'll love love me forever
Never stop never whatever
Near and far and always and everywhere and everything

I love you always forever
Near or far close and together
Everywhere I will be with you
Everything I will do for you

I love you always forever
Near or far close and together
Everywhere I will be with you
Everything I will do for you

I love you always forever
Near or far close and together
Everywhere I will be with you
Everything I will do for you

I think it fits, but then again, it may not be true.

neonsx, did you hear BUILDINGS + MOUNTAINS on Grey's last night? Ah, I was so excited, I immediately thought of you.

Well, it's really good, because usually Alex puts a song in at least 2 of her projects. Not that I want the Republic Tigers in everything, but I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it'll have an appearance in our beloved movie.

She featured Vampire Weekend on Friday Night Lights and Gossip Girl, SO I'm hoping she'll have enough sense to put them in Twilight.

Actually, recently I've been happy with the Gossip Girl music.
We haven't heard Rihanna or Akon, or any other cheesy overplayed gross artist.

Lots of The Kills, I like it.
Wooh, Alex is back on track :D

WOW I'm really excited about this! One of the only reasons I turned into Gossip Girl was because the music choice was perfect. She knows a lot about music, and will be sure to put in indie artists in there, which I love (I almost had a heart attack when I heard MGMT on GG) but will also put some familiars into there.

I saw a bunch of videos of Alex talking about music in gossip girl, and I'll post it in case you guys are interested.

I just saw a movie that had a killer soundtrack that I immediately fell in love with. When the end credits were rolling this person's name!

I've also seen Gossip Girl. I've gotta admit, she has great taste!!

The music is in good hands. :D
Chela ;)
