Product Placement

Discussion about the Twilight movie. It's all speculation until Summit Films actually produces a script and casts it.

Product Placement

Post by Cocoa »

As we all know movie companies use product placement in their props to help defer the cost of production.

What is the potential for Product Placement in Twilight?

Will a single designer be featured?

Which auto maker will be featured?

What car lineup will be used? (example: Ford - Mustang, ecscursion)

Coke or Pepsi?

That kind of thing.

I really hope Edward keeps his silver Volvo :( Bella's truck is so special too... As long as Bella's not in some fast sports car, I'll be okay. About the clothes? I don't know.

I was at a Q&A with Stephenie when she was asked Coke or Pepsi and she said Pepsi, which reminded me of that movie Ed TV and what happened to him when asked the same question. LOL

But in the book Alice has and apple and a can of Coke on her tray at lunch. (I guess that's a snub at Coke because she didn't drink it ... HA HA).

I wonder if Summit is big enough to be able to sell product placement to Volvo and BMW that should help bring in the dough. It must be an amazing time to be in the movie business at Summit, they have such to opportunity to make movie history if they can get everybody on board with this phenomenon.

Or what about Pop tarts and granola bars or even Cheerios for Bella's breakfast (it worked in ET).
Then there's always the Strawberry smelling shampoo that Bella uses. (I remember when Sauve came out with their strawberry shampoo and it was all the rage.)
I wonder if they'll use a particular pizza brand name for all the times Charlie orders out. Does Forks have a Domino's??????

Can you imagine the fan girl craze if Bella or Alice or Rosalie use a particular makeup brand in the movie. Sales will skyrocket for them.

Stephenie herself is the queen of product placement in her books. Remember that Science Fiction Renee was reading in Eclipse? I'm pretty sure it was The HOST!

This is a great topic I could go on forever, I should be in the movie business to market product placement. I guess I'll just settle watching for the props in the background.

Oh what a fun topic! Thank you Cocoa!!

I know for sure that they should use Coke in the film because we see it pop up more than once. (haha no pun intended. XD) As danobanano said, Alice has one on her tray, and then Bella orders Coke during her first, well, "date" with Edward, remember? If memory also serves, Bella also gets just a bottle of Coke during lunch when Edward comes back, because she's nervous about seeing him again.

I really do hope that they keep Bella's truck as well. It's unique and will really help give people more of a perspective on older vehicles. You can't easily replace an old RED 1953 Chevy truck that so many of us wish we had, with something else. You know?

I agree too with danobanano about the Cullen's cars. This movie will already be an explosion because of the sheer popularity of the books, but just imagine if they can get not just one, but ALL of the Cullen's cars in the film?? (Minus Alice's Porche, of course, ;) )
It'd be brilliant! :D

I'm wondering now too about clothing styles. Those costume designers are going to be the very basis of style hits once this movie is released. I don't think they'll market name brands on top of everything danobanano mentioned. But certain styles? Sure!
I can promise you right now that once we see what types of clothes they dressed everyone in, that's what's going to become all the rage. Because who wouldn't want to dress like a vampire? Or like our favorite heroine? :D

This really is a brilliant topic. I'll come back and post more if I come up with any other ideas. :D

That's a good one Isabella, considering you dressed up like Bella for the Prom. Ha ha
What a film franchize this will be. I can hardly stand the wait.

I'm hoping it will be done with tact. Not like in some movies where the villian gets thrown into a massive Coke billboard or something. That usually distracts me a bit from the actual movie, hah.

Do they usually only have one designer for clothing? I know virtually nothing about this kind of thing. I am hoping, though, that if they do the prom scene that the dresses are similar to how they're described in the book. Or the exact dresses. That would be absolutely amazing.

I agree with others about the truck and the Volvo. I don't know if they have to get the rights to put, "Stupid, shiny Volvo owner" into the script, but I am all for it being in there. Bring on the Volvo!

And I'm going to have to say Coke. It's mentioned far more in Twilight than Pepsi... which I fail to remember even one mention.

There absolutely has to be a Diet Vanilla Pepsi in product placement and some oblique reference to the Cheesecake Factory...will explain when I am not pirating an Internet signal in the UK.

Considering that Bella Italia is a real place, it would be cool if at least their menu got featured somehow.

As far as prom prep goes, I'm pictuing a Tigi Bed Head product extravaganza, because there is no way Alice buys "drug store brands".

I am fully expecting to see a bright, shiny silver Volvo S60 R in the movie. That car is too big a part of the books to not put in in.

Haha!! Oh honestly!! I should tell you the story behind that glorious weekend though. You might get a kick out of it.

And actually, I'm going to stand corrected, and correct myself again...I looked it up, because I'm a nerd. :D :D

Here, on page 40 of Twilight:"...Nothing," I answered. "I'll just get a soda today." I caught up to the end of the line.

It is just classified as a bottle of soda, but I'm going to assume a bottle of Coke, because it's the soda/pop she drinks mostly throughout. :D

lol! Pel you make me smile.
I sincerely hope that they feature Bella Italia in the film. It's quite an important place you know. ;)

Imagining all those hair products on the counter of Alice's bathroom as well, I completely agree that they all would be exotic and expensive. We cannot expect anything less of dear Alice. :D

Dude, I can't wait for all the cars--I'm a total auto-freak!! the good thing about having an extensive description of a car in a book is that it will come up the same onscreen....hopefully. O_o

I'm excited for the wardrobe, as well--I'll be watching Alice closely. Her style will no doubt be impeccable. I'm prepared to snatch whatever I can! Especially Bella's blouse!
