Meyer vs. Rowling (Author Leeway)

Discussion about the Twilight movie. It's all speculation until Summit Films actually produces a script and casts it.

J.K. Rowling has a say in the movies but in the end it is not much worth.
they just collect every important event, string them together, a lot of effects
tada: ready, blockbuster.
but it doesnt have anthing in common with these great and awesome magic world, J.K. Rowling created...

so its not that dramatic if (!) Stephenie has not a big say in/for(?!) the movie (as if we would know *smirks*)

to compare these both great ladys of magic literature is just annoying.
I love Harry Potter and I love the Twilight-Universe but to play off Harry against Edward
??!!

thats ridiculous!!!

stop that!!!

yeah, this comparison isn't really valid when you consider how different these stories and the feelings behind them are. . . I guess they're the same in the sense that they're wonderful books being made into HOPEFULLY wonderful movies. . . but. . . they're still WAY different

and (don't quote me on this), but I think JK Rowling didn't have any say on the movies from the 4th one on. . . and I think she has less say in the 3rd one than the first two. . . but maybe I'm crazy

Since J. K. Rowling has input on her books-turned-into-movies I just have to say this:
If Stephenie Meyer has input then I pray that she makes better choices that J. K. because if Twilight ends up like how Prisoner of Azkaban ended up, I might puke in the theatres.
Sorry if I offended anyone, but really, they turned my favorite book of the HP series and made it into a disaster for me.

Does Stephenie just have a different type of contract with her publisher and the movie people than JK does? Or is it because JK is JK? Or is it because Stephenie is in the US and JK is in England?
JK Rowling actually was going to create a "Harry Potter themed amusement park" with either Disney or Paramount. she decided to go with Paramount, because they give more creative licensing. by that, you can definitely see JK has a more "I want it my way" attitude (totally not a bad thing, if she didn't have that we might not have as amazing a series from her). not saying stephanie isn't like that, just that she's not AS.... I don't want to say pushy... insistent... yeah that's good, insistent as JK on having thing's exactly the way she pictured it.

yeah, I loved that book too. . . and that movie was. . . BAD. I could go on about it for forever. . . but it seems like Stephenie is doing all she can to work with the movie people to keep the movie authentic.

Rowling has say in the HP movies because she is also a producer. Anne Rice as well was a producer in IWTV. It doesnt matter that Rowling sold her rights to the books and lives in England, Warner Brothers is an American based company. Usually the only time a writer will have say in a movie is if they are producer and/or screen writer.

alot of the time with the Hp movies, they have to cut things or re-arrange things for screen time purposes. i know that it stinks, but i guess thats how its gotta be. HP was not what I expected nor 5. but 5 went pretty well, i just wish they had more filming at sirius's house. oh well.

they cut way way tooo much out of the movies, like when i was reading the 7th book, i was like they have cut out so much in the last ones, that the 7th movie, will be almost impossible to make where it sticks to the storyline and still makes sense. it makes me so upset, yet i still love and go watch the movies, i abuse myself. i abuse my ego. ha.

oh me too, i was thinking while reading number 7, how in the world will they make this into a movie without killing it? I'm a little scared for it. They may even have to make it a double feature thingy. Thats just what I think, don't qoute me on the double feature thing. Or they will have to start making them longer than an hour and a half - 2 hours long. C'mon, Lord Of the Rings was a good triliogy and we all sat through that didn't we? So yea anyways... :)

true, I love LOTR, and I'm sure there's just as many HP fans out there as LOTR, so I don't know why they wouldn't make it longer. . . I hope what happened with the 3rd HP movie will not happen tho this movie, like how they didn't explain the background behind things and added in that stupid bird with the whomping willow to make try to add something to the movie. . . I just hope they explain everything that happens so that people who see it and haven't seen the book will understand and want to read the book. . . because I know with HP, a lot of parents didn't completely make sense of the movies, and therefore didn't have any interest in reading the books. . .
