Chapter Twenty - Four: Vote

Post by Alphie »

1. What did you think of Bella's epiphany? Do you think she was justified in believing that Edward didn't love her and that the fact that he really did stunned her?

2. How did you feel about the way the vote went? Did you understand Edward's resoning? What about Rosalie's? Do you agree with Carlisle that it's the only loigical choice?

3. Were you as stunned as Bella was when Edward asked her to marry him? How do you feel about Bella's reasons for saying no to him?

4. At this point in the series - ignoring what you know from Eclipse - do you think Bella should marry Edward? Do you think she should become a vampire as soon as possible? Or do you think she should stay mortal for a while longer?

5. If Bella were to become a vampire, how would you feel if Edward was the one to change her? How would you feel if someone else changed her?

Well, I was one of those people that read Bella's shock at Edward's proposal and went... "Huh?"

I really couldn't figure it out. Without the explanation offered in Eclipse I wasn't able to think of a possible reason marriage wouldn't appeal to someone like her. She seems so oblivious to what other people think of her. She seems so madly head-over-heels in love. She seems ready to give up everything she knows for this one guy. Sounds like she's ready for marriage to me!

1. What did you think of Bella's epiphany? Do you think she was justified in believing that Edward didn't love her and that the fact that he really did stunned her?

Because Edward has been gone for such a long time, I think she was right in thinking that he didn't love her. He even told her so. She was so unable to live without him, that to me, it seems amazing that she accepted him again as quickly as she did.

2. How did you feel about the way the vote went? Did you understand Edward's resoning? What about Rosalie's? Do you agree with Carlisle that it's the only loigical choice?

I can see Edward's reasoning because he seriously thinks that Bella's soul will be damned if she is turned. As for Rosalie, I think that he reason for voting no was to get on Edward's good side. If the reason why she hates Bella is because she's human, then wouldn't she want Bella to become a vampire?

3. Were you as stunned as Bella was when Edward asked her to marry him? How do you feel about Bella's reasons for saying no to him?

I wasn't surprised at all. It seems like the next logical step. I think that Bella is just worried that their marriange will end up like her parents so she's all freaked out.

4. At this point in the series - ignoring what you know from Eclipse - do you think Bella should marry Edward? Do you think she should become a vampire as soon as possible? Or do you think she should stay mortal for a while longer?

Yes and Yes. New Moon has proven to us that Edward and Bella are basically incapable of living without each other. Before Bella met Edward, she might have had a chance with Jacob, but not anymore. As to her becoming a vampire, it just makes the most sense. The Volturi won't be able to hurt her and her relationship with Edward will be more balanced.

5. If Bella were to become a vampire, how would you feel if Edward was the one to change her? How would you feel if someone else changed her?

If Edward changed her, that would be amazing. But I don't think that its absolutely nessessary. As far as we know, there isnt any kind of hierarchy in Twilight-verse where the vampire who turns new vampires is automatically more powerful than them or something like that (Like in Amelia Atwater-Rhoades books... sorry if this is confusing). So in the long run, it wouldn't actually matter if Carlisle or Alice changed her.

1) Bellas epiphany: Bella has times where she has a very low self esteem and doesn't understand how someone that looks like Edward (hunk-a-licious) could ever love her... I think she finally realizes that love is not about looks... it goes deeper than anything on the outside appearance.

2)The VOTE: I was very happy with the vote. I do understand Edwards reasoning to a point, but it is not really logical in the sense that Bella will be aging and he wont be, nobody wants the love of their existance to look like their son eventually. I was happy Rosalie gave a "no" vote because she really would not have chosen this lifestyle... I was happy that she said told Bella that it was not that she wouldn't want her as a sister but that she wished someone was there to vote no for her... It made me respect Rosalie more. I completely agree with Carlisle... the only safe way for Bella and Edward to live is for them to both be vampires...

3)I was THRILLED when Edward proposed to Bella and stunned at her response... I did understand why she responded that way, but given what she gets in return well makes up for walking down the isle no matter how she was raised to view marriage...

4)I absolutely think Bella should marry Edward and go through the change ASAP... I think that she knows what she wants her future to be and so she needs to take the steps to get it...

5) I really hope Edward is the one to change Bella. I think that it will completely link those two even more. It would mean to Bella that Edward loves and wants her to much that he is willing to change her so he can have her forever. If someone else changed her, i would be a little disappointed but still happy that she is turning into what she so desperately wants to be...
"Bella... are you sure? Did you make the right choice? I've never seen you in so much pain-"
I touched his lips. "Yes."
"I don't know... If it hurts you so much, how can it possibly be the right thing for you?"
"Edward, I know who I can't live without."
"But..."
"You don't understand... I have to be with you. It's the only way I can live."
He pulled me closer, "'I cannot live without my life! I cannot live without my soul!'"

I will say that I think that if Edward changes her, it might help her get over her fear of him leaving her again. I guess it would prove his love to be very, very concrete.

1. What did you think of Bella's epiphany? Do you think she was justified in believing that Edward didn't love her and that the fact that he really did stunned her?

Not really justified, i thought she would have realised a little earlier how deep Edwards love went for her, although she did believe that it was guilt that drove him to try and commit "suicide" - i was relieved when it became clear to her..

2. How did you feel about the way the vote went? Did you understand Edward's resoning? What about Rosalie's? Do you agree with Carlisle that it's the only loigical choice?

I defiately agree that its the only logical choice, as with Bella being a magnet for danger its only going to get harder to keep her alive while surrounded by Vampires, I understand Rosalies decision and i feel for her as all she wanted in her life are the very same things that Bella "seems" to be throwing away. With Edward i cant believe how far he will go to save Bella's soul- to me that is the ultimate sacrifice as he is in constant turmoil over the scent of her ....

3. Were you as stunned as Bella was when Edward asked her to marry him? How do you feel about Bella's reasons for saying no to him?

No i wasnt stunned when Edward asked her, to me it the next step for them, i dont really see Bella's point of view over the marriage thing, coz if she is willing to spend eternity with him, why should it matter if people talk about her getting married so young- She knows that she wants to spend eternity with him, its not like its a passing faze.

4. At this point in the series - ignoring what you know from Eclipse - do you think Bella should marry Edward? Do you think she should become a vampire as soon as possible? Or do you think she should stay mortal for a while longer?

I think she should experience some more things but be changed quickly, as in the next few months, like give her time to say goodbye to everyone. Yes she should marry Edward asap.

5. If Bella were to become a vampire, how would you feel if Edward was the one to change her? How would you feel if someone else changed her?

If she was to become a Vampire and someone else did it, i would be dissapointed as to me Edward changing her would be amazing, the self control he would need to posess( actually he posesses that already) but just imagining him being the one to change he gives me the shivers......
"With a wild gasp, he brought his mouth back to mine, his fingers clutching frantically against the skin at my waist"

1. What did you think of Bella's epiphany? Do you think she was justified in believing that Edward didn't love her and that the fact that he really did stunned her?
Quite honestly, I was getting more than a little impatient with her by the time she had her little epiphany. It was quite clear to me even from "The End", that Edward was lying through his teeth, I never once doubted his love for Bella. I sure as hell could not figure out why she didn't see through him either.

It is just like Edward to be so noble and self-sacraficing, she already stated that fact in the previous chapter. But I suppose people are not always rational or think as clearly as they should in matters of the heart.
2. How did you feel about the way the vote went? Did you understand Edward's resoning? What about Rosalie's? Do you agree with Carlisle that it's the only loigical choice?[/b]

I'm quite happy with the way the vote turned out :D and naturally I completely agree with Charlisle that it is the only logicial and sane choice to be made. I've been waiting for this particular answer since the Meadow in Twilight. Seriously, who would want to stay Human? lol

I don't quite see Edwards point of view on this point at all. I guess it mostly just stems from my own personal beliefs, so I won't comment further... other than that I think it is ridiculous for him to willingly pass up the opportunity to spend eternity with his soulmate. Isn't that what we're all searching for to some degree?
3. Were you as stunned as Bella was when Edward asked her to marry him? How do you feel about Bella's reasons for saying no to him?
Bella's reasoning makes sense to me. I told an ex-girlfriend I wouldn't propose to her after only dating for 6 months, no matter how much I might love her because that's what my parents did and they ended up divorced when I was just 5.

I think a lot of the decisions we make, whether conscious of it or not, is a reaction to our parents own lives and decisions. It's their experiences that we are brought up with and unless a conscious effort is made to do the opposite, we end up making a great many of our choices based on how they raised us.
4. At this point in the series - ignoring what you know from Eclipse - do you think Bella should marry Edward? Do you think she should become a vampire as soon as possible? Or do you think she should stay mortal for a while longer?
I don't think Bella should do anything she is uncomfortable with, or she feels is against her moral fiber and judgement. If she feels to young, or is feeling adverse to it, then she shouldn't do it. I definitely think she should become a vampire soon rather than later... as quickly as is inhumanly possible.
5. If Bella were to become a vampire, how would you feel if Edward was the one to change her? How would you feel if someone else changed her?
At this point, I'm so impatient for it to happen already that as long as a Cullen does it, I really don't care which it is. The suspense is killing me, I think I'm more curious than Aro actually.

1. What did you think of Bella's epiphany? Do you think she was justified in believing that Edward didn't love her and that the fact that he really did stunned her?
I feel that she was justified only in the sense that the concept of love was new to her. Before Edward there had never been anyone else in her life that came close to the relationship that they had. The constant self doubt she had about them not being equals was finally proven to her by him when he said that he did not love her; it was almost a self fulfilling prophecy. So when he tried to in a sense take it back and tell her that he loved her and had along it was a shock to her.

2. How did you feel about the way the vote went? Did you understand Edward's reasoning? What about Rosalie's? Do you agree with Carlisle that it's the only logical choice?
Of course my gut reaction was to be thrilled because I want Edward and Bella to be together forever. Edward has this belief that because of the monster that he is he will be damned for all eternity, at the time of the vote you know that he honestly believes. With that said of course you can understand that he would not want the love of his life to be cursed as he is. He just wants her to be happy. Carlisle is correct in saying that it is the only logical choice because of what happened in Italy. The Cullen's saw how Edward reacted over the "loss" of Bella once and I don't think that they would be able to handle that a second time. So why not just change Bella and be one big happy vampire family?

3. Were you as stunned as Bella was when Edward asked her to marry him? How do you feel about Bella's reasons for saying no to him?
It was only natural that he would want to marry her. He has already lived for more than a century so I would think that he knows what he likes best for himself. He knows that this is the love for him and wants to be with her for all eternity. I just wanted to knock some serious sense into her. It is completely illogical for her to say no to marriage which is supposed to be a lifelong bond (sadly not in today's society). Why would she go to the whole Cullen family and ask them to make her a part of their permanent/eternal family in order to be with Edward if she could not handle the ceremony of marriage. With marriage you are saying to the world "here is the person I love and want to spend eternity with!" If she can't handle that then don't even bother considering becoming a vampire just to be with Edward. It is as if she still does not understand what she is asking for.

4. At this point in the series - ignoring what you know from Eclipse - do you think Bella should marry Edward? Do you think she should become a vampire as soon as possible? Or do you think she should stay mortal for a while longer?
At this point no she should not become a vampire. Going back to previous questions answer, it appears she does not fully comprehend what she asks of Edward. She needs to say mortal till she can make some sense out of the life that she asks of Edward and the rest of the Cullen's.

5. If Bella were to become a vampire, how would you feel if Edward was the one to change her? How would you feel if someone else changed her?
Think of it as sex, you only get that one shot for a first time. Bella sees this as something so special that she wants it done with her man, Edward. Which is very understandable, if I were in her place (sigh, to dream) I too would want Edward to change me. It is like his way of saying I love you so much that I will do everything in my power to have you be able to stay with me always. If someone else were to change her she would still get to be with him but just wouldn't be the same. Of course it is still very special but that first time never comes back.

1. What did you think of Bella's epiphany? Do you think she was justified in believing that Edward didn't love her and that the fact that he really did stunned her?
Bella's epiphany really felt off for me. Not a conclusion I would draw. I still think the 'wishfull thinking' theory holds more ground. She was justified in believing he didn't love her. She was very easy to convince, both times. First when he left, and then when they were back from Italy.

2. How did you feel about the way the vote went? Did you understand Edward's resoning? What about Rosalie's? Do you agree with Carlisle that it's the only loigical choice?
I din't expect Edward to give up without a fight. But he was not able to convince me with his reasoning. If Bella would take of on her own, and the Cullens would not be in on her location it might work. But when Aro comes along to read their memories, how are they going to block their mind form getting the information he wants?
Rosalies reasoning was very believable. I thought the things she said to clarify were very sweet, considering who was saying them.

3. Were you as stunned as Bella was when Edward asked her to marry him? How do you feel about Bella's reasons for saying no to him?
I think marriage was a very logical step for him. The guy has been alone for so long, now he found the love of his life (existence) and he want to make it official.
Bella grew up in a 'broken home', I have no experience in that area but I imagine that this puts marriage in a different perspective. And she was 18 years old! I agree with Bella that she is pretty young to get married. I was not ready for marriage at 18. But I wasn't dating a hot vampire either. Her willingness to become a vampire and her reluctance to marry him first just don't add up in my mind.

4. At this point in the series - ignoring what you know from Eclipse - do you think Bella should marry Edward? Do you think she should become a vampire as soon as possible? Or do you think she should stay mortal for a while longer?
I think she should marry him! When she is willing to give her life, her human life for him, why not marry him? Marriage seems like a small step considering the change waiting for her. For my sanity I hope she doesn't stay human much longer. And what is the point? I don't see how an extra year makes saying goodbye to her human life any easier.

5. If Bella were to become a vampire, how would you feel if Edward was the one to change her? How would you feel if someone else changed her?
Edward changing her would be the icing on the cake: very nice. I think they would both regret it if someone else changed her.
When Edward changes her he will be her mate, but also her father-creator. :)
"I never promised to fight fair," he reminded me quietly. "And he deserved to know."
