1. What did you think of Alice's bribe? What does it say to you that she not only had that much cash handy, but that she thought it would take that much money to bribe the officer?

1) Alice was probably not concerned about money at the time, considering they might've been too late to stop Edward's exposure. 2) Alice is semi out of touch with the rest of the world. Alice had to create her own life after she was transformed. She had to live in the human world without being human and without remembering anything of it. That, mixed with the large amounts of money that she carries, resulted in her throwing that large sum at the officer. If it hadn't been so urgent, she might not have thrown so much money at him.

2. Did you ever think Bella wasn't going to make it in time?

No.

3. How did you respond when Edward assumed they were both dead?

I was heartbroken, because he seemed happy about it.

4. Edward pretty much gave up the moment tiny, little Jane approched. What was your assumption about Jane when you first saw her - be honest!

I assumed that she would be dangerous, otherwise who would have changed such a young child? There had to be something disturbing about her, and alas, she is a freak child! :P

5. Bella assumed that Edward was being nice, but not romantic, by protecting her as they made their way down the tunnel. What did you think of the way he was holding her and protecting her?

I knew he loved her.

1. What did you think of Alice's bribe? What does it say to you that she not only had that much cash handy, but that she thought it would take that much money to bribe the officer?

I'm not sure why on earth she had so much money at hand, to be honest. Possibly because...well, I guess you never know when you'll need a roll of thousands. I guess she assumed that a little money would help cover any dilemmas they might have faced. Aside from that, she might have used part of that money to pay for the plane tickets. I don't honestly think she thought it would take that much money to bribe him. But if she'd handed him five hundred...I'll just say dollars to avoid confusion. Anyway, I think she just wanted to exceed his maximum bribe to avoid any sort of delay. If he'd have taken one thousand gladly, then she wanted to give him some extra, just so that he wouldn't be sitting there, deciding. After all...what wouldn't you give for a roll of thousand dollar bills the size of a thick mug?

2. Did you ever think Bella wasn't going to make it in time?

I'm not sure. I was too wrapped up in what Bella was thinking to really pay attention to what I was thinking. I'd have to say though, that it did cross my mind. But I never actually thought it would happen. Why? Well duh. Stephenie hates sad endings! And what could be a sadder ending than Edward dead?

3. How did you respond when Edward assumed they were both dead?

I was kind of thinking what Bella was thinking. "Get a grip on reality, buddy! You're not dead, but if you stand there any longer, you sure as hell will be!"

4. Edward pretty much gave up the moment tiny, little Jane approched. What was your assumption about Jane when you first saw her - be honest!

Be honest? I wasn't paying attention. I was honestly pretty confused. Don't think I'm stupid - but I honestly didn't make the connection that he gave up at the same time that Jane arrived. I was still too involved in the "What's going to happen?" and the "They're finally together" things to notice those details.

5. Bella assumed that Edward was being nice, but not romantic, by protecting her as they made their way down the tunnel. What did you think of the way he was holding her and protecting her?

Ah, here we go. Back in chapter three, when Edward said that he was leaving, he said something else, and it was one of the maybe one or two details I paid attention to in the entire book, and this one sentence blinded me to all other things that occurred in the book. "Don't do anything stupid. For Charlie, of course. It's him I'm thinking of." It went something like that. That sentence just screamed to me, "Of course he cares about her! What is this impression she's getting that he still doesn't love her?" It seemed, actually, pretty pathetic that he said that, anyway. So I never thought that he was being nice. I knew that he loved her. I dunno, I just thought it really was...out of the question that he didn't love her. The thought never even crossed my mind. Heck, I didn't even realize until the second reading of New Moon that she even thought he didn't love her! That's how obvious it was to me.

1. What did you think of Alice's bribe? What does it say to you that she not only had that much cash handy, but that she thought it would take that much money to bribe the officer? The Cullen's wealth was hinted at before Bella had even had a conversation with Edward. After what Alice pulled off in Twilight with the evidence fabrication at the hotel in Pheonix, nothing much surprised me about what Alice can think up or pull off. When Alice said she didn't have time to forge a passport for Bella, clearly bribery and all things underhanded were not beneath her. Why should I be surprised? It's just fun to watch her work.

2. Did you ever think Bella wasn't going to make it in time? I honestly didn't know. I thought if she didn't there would be a good, albeit painful reason why. I had faith in the journey Stephenie was taking me on would be worth the pain of the ride.

3. How did you respond when Edward assumed they were both dead? I actually enjoyed this. It's the one scene where rolls are clearly reversed. He behaved the way Bella does in her vivid dreams. She had to convince him they were alive the way Edward has to convince Bella he's really there after they get back.

4. Edward pretty much gave up the moment tiny, little Jane approched. What was your assumption about Jane when you first saw her - be honest! Clearly she was some kind of super enforcer because the guards Edward had been squaring off against were suddenly cowering. I was puzzled why Edward who had fought so hard against Volturi guards so suddenly changed his tune. Edward seemed invincable and able to do almost anything. Even he was afraid of her. I hadn't let my imgination wonder about what other kinds of "super powers" were out there in the vampire world so I was anxious to see what Edward had to be afraid of.

5. Bella assumed that Edward was being nice, but not romantic, by protecting her as they made their way down the tunnel. What did you think of the way he was holding her and protecting her? I never doubted that Edward loved Bella and that it was romantic. The only time I questioned that was when he stayed away for so long in the middle of the book. When he thought that he and Bella were in heaven together, clearly his idea of heaven has Bella in it.

1. What did you think of Alice's bribe? What does it say to you that she not only had that much cash handy, but that she thought it would take that much money to bribe the officer?
Um...well, we already knew how wealthy the Cullens were, so I wasnt surprised at how much she had with her...but how much she gave him! I think it was a lot. I'm not used to seeing people hand out money like flyers, same with Bella. Now that I think about it though, it probably was a big deal that the officer let Alice through.

2. Did you ever think Bella wasn't going to make it in time?
I wasnt sure. I knew that she had to and that she probably would, but I still doubted it. When the clock tower rang or chimed (?) my pulse went really fast because it meant she was too late. But I didnt sigh with relief when she made it in time, so I kind of knew she would.

3. How did you respond when Edward assumed they were both dead?
I was responding like Bella. Edward needed to get into the shadows and he needed to get alert quick! I was really shaky during this chapter too, so that helped...

4. Edward pretty much gave up the moment tiny, little Jane approched. What was your assumption about Jane when you first saw her - be honest!
Jane-I had no idea of what to think of her. I wasnt thinking about the special powers at all. I might have been confused why they all acted that way-I seriously cant remember.

5. Bella assumed that Edward was being nice, but not romantic, by protecting her as they made their way down the tunnel. What did you think of the way he was holding her and protecting her?
Well, in the beginning of New Moon, I knew he would come back into the series again. When Alice saw him trying to go off himself, I knew he still loved Bella. And then I was sure of it when he thought he was in heaven-with Bella. I was 99.9% sure Edward still loved her when they were in the tunnel. I think Bella's uncertainty was the other 0.1%.

1. What did you think of Alice's bribe? What does it say to you that she not only had that much cash handy, but that she thought it would take that much money to bribe the officer?

I just remember wishing someone was handing me a big wad of bills. And being impressed that she was so handy with putting on the glove so that she could stick her hand out the window. (Get it? handy? glove? I'm so clever!)

2. Did you ever think Bella wasn't going to make it in time?

Let me be honest here. The second I read that Edward left I flipped forward in the book until I saw him talking again, then went back to my place to keep reading. I knew she would make it.

3. How did you respond when Edward assumed they were both dead?

Bless is little (non-beating heart) heart: never is good at thinking outside of the box, is he? I loved his immediate acceptance that "Carlisle was right, afterall" though.

4. Edward pretty much gave up the moment tiny, little Jane approched. What was your assumption about Jane when you first saw her - be honest!

I like strong sassy female characters, so I was excited to see what her role was. It took me awhile to figure she was a young teenager.

5. Bella assumed that Edward was being nice, but not romantic, by protecting her as they made their way down the tunnel. What did you think of the way he was holding her and protecting her?

Bella just never really accepted how much Edward loved her. He was obviously as happy to see her as she was to see him.

1. I found it a little funny. Alice is pretty; like most Vampires and would know that she needed money because she say it working. I thought Alice would of been thinking a head because her sunglasses and Gloves. she knew exactly what she was doing

2. I was a little scared at first, while she was running the clock turned to noon and the tower was chiming and everything was so crowded; and they she did an obvious Bella move.. she ran into the fountain.. but for once she kept going. she knew what she wanted and she knew how she would get it.

3. first i wanted to slap him and be like SHUT UP AND KISS HER ! and then when he kept talking i was like EDWARD ! ugh but then when she finally calmed him down it was more of an.. Edward, can't you realize she ran all this way to SAVE YOU.

4. I was a little curious to be honest, when Edward gave up you know something had to be wrong.. her description didn't seem too frightening, but when Edward gave up so easily, Strong Edward who says no to nobody... Gave up.. I was confused.. intrigued even.

5. When Edward was Keeping no space between them; i found myself expecting Danger to be waiting, an attack of some sort or someone who wanted her. Edward wasn't just being nice to me; he was being his faithful self. a hopeless romantic for the girl of his Dreams sort to say. Throughout the whole Tunnel i found myself thinking over and over Edward was here to Stay- he's realized his ways and his mistakes. If he was willing to Kill himself over her death You knew it was more than "just a fling"

1. What did you think of Alice's bribe? What does it say to you that she not only had that much cash handy, but that she thought it would take that much money to bribe the officer?
It was very smart of her. And since she's rich and desperate to get in that city, it was completely understandable that she didn't waste time trying to conserve the cash. :P

2. Did you ever think Bella wasn't going to make it in time?
Well...I knew they wouldn't die, but I got really really nervous when I read about the clock ticking. That part was the most nerve wracking in the entire book for me!

3. How did you respond when Edward assumed they were both dead?
It was so sad and touching. An Edward "awww" moment for me, despite the fact that the Volturi was about to inflict major wrath. :P

4. Edward pretty much gave up the moment tiny, little Jane approched. What was your assumption about Jane when you first saw her - be honest!
Creeeeeepy. There's something about little girls that books and movies have completely made use of. They're the picture of innocence, so it's even more terrifying when they're portrayed in such a sinister light. And the childlike, reedy voice described reminded me of Linda Blair.

5. Bella assumed that Edward was being nice, but not romantic, by protecting her as they made their way down the tunnel. What did you think of the way he was holding her and protecting her?
Oh, I knew he really loved her. Bella and Edward are so dense about each other, but the reader can see it quite easily. :) It was so sweet how he made those little comforting gestures towards her.

1. What did you think of Alice's bribe? What does it say to you that she not only had that much cash handy, but that she thought it would take that much money to bribe the officer?

The idea that she had that much cash handy did not surprize me, we have known since very early on that the Cullens have alot of money and that they don't worry about the price of things. I think that she had that much money on her because she was being prepared for any situation that might arise.

2. Did you ever think Bella wasn't going to make it in time?

I have a bit of a confession to make on this one: I started reading Twilight this summer when Eclispe came out (I work at a book store and was blown away by the Harry Potter like response it got from young girls) When I got to this part in New Moon I was so desperate to know what was going to happen that I promtly put my book down called a friend and said to her "Okay I don't want to know any other details ecxcept this: Bella makes it in time to save Edward Yes or No?" she responded saying yes sort of!!! I ran back to my book even more afraid than before and raced through the entire chapter including the entire scene on the Voltri. In fact I read it so fast that once I knew Edward Bella and Alice were at least safe I had to calm myself down and reread the chapters!! :)

3. How did you respond when Edward assumed they were both dead?

I honestly did not think very much of it because like Bella we knew that Edward wasn't dead. However I got more and more painicked the longer he thought he was dead for. I also thought it was really interesting how in that last moment he admitted that Carlise was right and that Vampire's do have souls. I think that line gave us all a little hope (Bella included) on the issue of Edward not wanting Bella to be a vampire because he refuses to take her soul.

4. Edward pretty much gave up the moment tiny, little Jane approched. What was your assumption about Jane when you first saw her - be honest!

When I read that Edward put his arms down in defeat I was honestly confused. I went back up to the top of the page where Jane enters to reread it and make sure I hadn't missed some key frightening detail about Jane. When I realized I hadn't I became quite afraid for Bella Edward and Alice's chances of getting out alive. If you remember what I said in an earlier question when my friend told me "Yes sort of" I thought that this is what she was refering to: That yes Bella did make it in time to stop Edward but that the Voltri were unfortuntaly Two steps ahead of her.

5. Bella assumed that Edward was being nice, but not romantic, by protecting her as they made their way down the tunnel. What did you think of the way he was holding her and protecting her?

I think that Edward thought that these would be their last moments together and he wanted Bella to know that he did love her and that he would do anything to protect her against what was coming next. I also think that Edward may have been angry at himself for putting Bella in danger yet again and this time it was to save him from himself.

Ok, this is my absolute favorite chapter in the entire series. I have no idea why, I just love it!

1)I thought Alice's bribe was odd, she had SO MUCH MONEY! Maybe she wasn't sure who else she would have to bribe on the way there, maybe she even had more money!

2) I had no idea if Bella would make it. I almost (*almost*) stopped reading because my head was so full of "What if she doesn't make it" and "What if she does" scenarios. But I think I knew in the back of my mind that she would make it, because I'm a glass-half-full kind of person and want everything to be happy.

3) I thought this part was amazing, when Edward thought they were both dead. It's a really insightful big, just that he can be so happy and peaceful knowing he's dead while Bella's freaking out because she thinks they're going to die.

4) At first, I thought Jane was just there to tell Edward he had to go to see the rest of the Volturi, and she was no big deal. I thought she was some person that would tell the guards to get him if Edward refused, I never thought she was so powerful.

5) I didn't make anything of the holding in the tunnel, I was too freaked out at the time to realize there might be some meaning behind it. I don't really think it was supposed to be romantic, just that he hadn't been near her in so long it was impossible to separate them. well maybe that is kind of romantic...

1. Alice money:
Alice says in the book that she can't see what the guard will decide--he hasn't made the choice yet (he doesn't know the question!). The Cullens have a pretty good understanding of human nature- Money has power. The guard on the other hand probably has a great job (i.e. government job!) and so to risk losing that, the pay off must be equal to the risk. Alice proves how much she knows about human nature and the guard proves that he is human. (There are, thankfully, exceptions to every rule, including my generalization of human nature. Thankfully the guard was not an exception.)

2. Make it in time:
I wanted Bella to make it in time, but I was unsure. Alice's little "don't trip" comment could have been foreshadowing. Having said that, I had no fear for Edward's life. Stephenie would have saved him another way. I can't exist in a world without Edward and I was sure Stephenie couldn't either!

3. Wake up Edward:
I'm sorry to admit, but for a split second I thought Edward was going to "take a taste" to be sure! They are both dead already- he couldn't kill her, and she smelled just as tempting, so why not. Whew! I was wrong. Then I was wondering why Bella was still conscious--she just ran into a granite wall at full throttle! Ouch! even if he did catch her. After those two thoughts, I was finally able to savor the moment.

4. Jane: I, too, pictured a miniature grown-up. It wasn't until my second time through that I realized she was a child and I still have a hard time with it. Edward would only give up to protect Bella. I figured little Jane posed a threat to her, not so much Edward himself. What that threat, was I had no idea.

5. Edwards holding Bella:
"Wake up Bella!" I was screaming at her in my head. A nice person, feeling guilty, wouldn't behave so. They'd "get the job done with out all the frills" so to say- no caressing. The part I loved the most was when she shivered and he let go over her (except her hand). Ahhhh! How hard that must have been for him! That one gesture was on the level of "laying down his life for her." My heart ached for him. 6 months apart, to finally have her in his arms again, every fiber of his being crying out for her, and then knowing he was adding to her coldness (temperature, not disposition!), he let go of her. It must have been like leaving her in the forest again. He did it for her, though it caused him immense physical pain. Thankfully, Bella would have none of it!
