1. Jessica switches allegiance by siding with Lauren and convincing others to not go on the group outing. Do you feel that, based on Bella's actions the night of the bar incident, her reaction is justified?
A. Yes. Who would want to go hang out with someone who just went crazy...if only for a moment?

2. When the motorcycle loses power to summon Edward's voice, Bella begins to search for the meadow. Why do you think she chooses this as her next attempt to conjure his voice?
A. I think that this is where the magic happened between them. This is where edward took her to show her and tell her who he really was, so, somehow, it's connected with him.

3. Bella is amazed that Jacob never gives up on pursuing her, despite rejection after rejection. She wonders where he gets the confidence. Based on what we know of Jacob, what do you think his reasons are for being so confident and not giving up?
A. He knows that even in something bad, he can always make good out of it. (and because men are just stubborn!;P)

4. Bella knows that part of her will always love Edward, yet she begins to entertain the idea of Jacob being more than just a friend. Do you see this as a betrayal of her heart, or is she smart to press forward and think about moving on?
A. No way! It's teen love, and most people know that a teen's heart is very confusing. Edward was her first love, and her mind was just exploring the possibilities of her and jacob. In no way was it a betrayal of the heart.

1. Jessica switches allegiance by siding with Lauren and convincing others to not go on the group outing. Do you feel that, based on Bella's actions the night of the bar incident, her reaction is justified?
I think Jessica and Lauren are definitely jealous of Bella...I even think they're jealous of the fact that Edward left her, so she has a reason for peopel to give her sympathy and she can be depressed without everyone making it worse...they basically only want what she has, so when Bella does something dangerous, they don't want to bother with her because they wish they had a reason to be reckless, like she does.

2. When the motorcycle loses power to summon Edward's voice, Bella begins to search for the meadow. Why do you think she chooses this as her next attempt to conjure his voice?
That was the real start of their relationship and when they knew they'd ALWAYS be together, even if he decided to leave for an EXTREMELY TOO-LONG amount of time, so she decided to go to the meadow, to see if she could hear Edward in her head for once without him warning her of anything.

3. Bella is amazed that Jacob never gives up on pursuing her, despite rejection after rejection. She wonders where he gets the confidence. Based on what we know of Jacob, what do you think he reasons are for being so confident and not giving up?
I think he believes that he will eventually get Bella to go out with him, if Edward were to never come back. He has so much confidence because he fell for Edward's lies as well, and thought that as long as he was gone, Bella should be his. So, he doesn't give up because he knows that Bella may eventually give in if she comes to the conclusion that Edward won't come back. (Even though he did.)

4. Bella knows that part of her will always love Edward, yet she begins to entertain the idea of Jacob being more than just a friend. Do you see this as a betrayal of her heart, or is she smart to press forward and think about moving on?
I don't like it when she thinks of trying to move forward, even though I knew she wouldn't until Edward came back...but it did sort of feel like she was betraying herself, after the epilogue for Twilight and everything...I think maybe she did this just to see if Edward would come back into her mind, and she'd hear him trying to tell her that Jacob was wrong for her, but that didn't happen...he encouraged her to forget him and be happy. :?

Maybe Bella was really that good of a flirt in twilight. Or maybe Jake has nothing better to do. Maybe Billy pays him or funds his building if he'll do it, and jake figures, i kind of like her what the heck. or maybe it is the edward thing.

i thik some quirk in jacobs personality makes him that confident, and im glad he is! his character is stronger that way

and now that yo all mention it i really do wander about bellas reasoning for serching for the medow. except that she was desprate to cling to the memory of edward. and shed been without passion so long, this was one thing she could throw herself to.

thats my theory. there are many holes to be poked. feel free

Before i write my answers, I didn't really read what anyone else said (trying to keep my ideas in my head), so if this repeats or anything... sorry!

1. Jessica switches allegiance by siding with Lauren and convincing others to not go on the group outing. Do you feel that, based on Bella's actions the night of the bar incident, her reaction is justified?
Jessica was never really a "close" friend of Bella's. Jessica lives for attention and gossip and that's what drew her to Bella. Bella was the center of all the attention and gossip without really wanting to be. When Bella was in her zombie state, the attention and gossip died, so Jessica lost interest in Bella. When the Port Angeles bar incident happened, Jessica was shocked, of course. Bella was being weird the whole night. Listening to rap music, skipping out on the last part of the movie, and then what happened near the bar. Jessica obviously didn't want to see what happened that night again. And think(hold on this might get messy), what if everyone went and Bella pulled another weird "incident". Everyone would start talking about Bella-not quite the same attention as her first day, but it's still attention. Attention taken away from Jessica. Who knows?

2. When the motorcycle loses power to summon Edward's voice, Bella begins to search for the meadow. Why do you think she chooses this as her next attempt to conjure his voice?
It might not be stupid and reckless, but this is the place where Bella and Edward connected. This place also holds a lot of firsts for Bella. The first time she saw him in the sun, sparkling (real men sparkle!), the first time she ran with him, the first time they kissed... (ok, the last two weren't in the meadow persay, but you get my drift). Bella has some great memories in the meadow and she feels like she will be able to hear Edward because these memories are so strong. It was... sorry, is Edward's meadow, afterall...

3. Bella is amazed that Jacob never gives up on pursuing her, despite rejection after rejection. She wonders where he gets the confidence. Based on what we know of Jacob, what do you think he reasons are for being so confident and not giving up?
Jacob has seen Edward and Bella together. He knows how Edward made her happy. He also knows how Edward's leaving hurt Bella, too. Jacob may not have seen Bella during her zombie stage, but he heard it through Billy, through Charlie. But Jacob also sees how he has put meaning back into Bella's life. She smiles and laughs, although she might not be exactly like she was before. Hmmm... here's another theory. Jacob works in the garage a lot, right? Maybe he sees Bella as a broken down car. Now, you can't just fix a car in a few weeks (even though he fixed those motorcycles up pretty quickly...), it takes time, patience, and effort. It takes even more of those three things if you want the car to be perfect. See where I'm going? Who knows? Oops, I said that before for the Jessica one... Well, you know what I mean...

4. Bella knows that part of her will always love Edward, yet she begins to entertain the idea of Jacob being more than just a friend. Do you see this as a betrayal of her heart, or is she smart to press forward and think about moving on?
Not really either. Bella knows she is broken. She will always love Edward and won't be able to move on fro him. She starts to think about giving Jacob more than being a friend because she wants Jacob to be happy. If she'll never be truely happy, why does Jacob have to suffer, too? Her pain is his pain and her happiness is his happiness. She would feel guilty, though, about not being able to give Jacob more. She knows he is such a great guy and that he deserves better- a full, whole person- instead of her broken pieces.

yeah. Sorry, again, if I practically repeated what anyone else said.

1. Jessica switches allegiance by siding with Lauren and convincing others to not go on the group outing. Do you feel that, based on Bella's actions the night of the bar incident, her reaction is justified?
Jessica has every right to feel the way she wants to feel about Bella, but dragging others away, was wrong. They're old enough to come to their own decisions.

2. When the motorcycle loses power to summon Edward's voice, Bella begins to search for the meadow. Why do you think she chooses this as her next attempt to conjure his voice?
When answering questions like this, instead of wondering why Bella thought to go to the meadow, I wonder why SM wanted Bella to go to the meadow. She needed a remote place for Bella to encounter Laurent to learn about Victoria and see the werewolves. The meadow seems like a good place, but then again, SM could have accomplished this when Bella went to the Cullen's house.

3. Bella is amazed that Jacob never gives up on pursuing her, despite rejection after rejection. She wonders where he gets the confidence. Based on what we know of Jacob, what do you think he reasons are for being so confident and not giving up?

Although being Rebound Guy probably isn't Jacob's ideal role, the situation has proven to be beneficial for him. Besides, Bella came to him and continued to come back. She rejects him, but always leaves room for other interpretations of her actions. I think he's getting his confidence from her subliminal messages.

4. Bella knows that part of her will always love Edward, yet she begins to entertain the idea of Jacob being more than just a friend. Do you see this as a betrayal of her heart, or is she smart to press forward and think about moving on?

As much as I loved Edward, he was gone (in Bella's mind). What was there to hate about Jacob - he was perfect. Okay, except for the little werewolf problem. By my second read through of NM I was actually rooting for him!

1. Jessica switches allegiance by siding with Lauren and convincing others to not go on the group outing. Do you feel that, based on Bella's actions the night of the bar incident, her reaction is justified?

I think that Jessica should have given Bella one more cahnce. I don't belive what she did was right, even from looking at her point of view, but I can sort of, just sort of, see where she's coming from.

2. When the motorcycle loses power to summon Edward's voice, Bella begins to search for the meadow. Why do you think she chooses this as her next attempt to conjure his voice?

She tries to do something reckless. Looking for a meadow that is off a path, into the woods, it is reckless. Any clutz would agree with me. plus, the only person that knows the exact location is Edward, as far as we know. That would be reckless, plus she knows that it would bring memories back to her, also possibly bieng a cause to his voice.

3. Bella is amazed that Jacob never gives up on pursuing her, despite rejection after rejection. She wonders where he gets the confidence. Based on what we know of Jacob, what do you think he reasons are for being so confident and not giving up?

He knows that she is hurt, and vulklnerable. I think that he belives that he can somehow heal her and she'll be grateful. Also, because she's vulnerable, he can try and persuade her to accept him.

4. Bella knows that part of her will always love Edward, yet she begins to entertain the idea of Jacob being more than just a friend. Do you see this as a betrayal of her heart, or is she smart to press forward and think about moving on?

I don;t think so. Jacob has started to heal her, and is making the pain subside. She will always love Edward, but if she can't have Edward, why not have the medicine to the Pain?

(This may be repeating previous points - sorry!)

1. Jessica switches allegiance by siding with Lauren and convincing others to not go on the group outing. Do you feel that, based on Bella's actions the night of the bar incident, her reaction is justified?

I don't think it was solely based on Bella's actions, but her behaviour during the previous few months. Bella has snubbed her, albeit not with malicious intent, with no explanation for her actions - and how could Jessica even begin to imagine how she felt? The trip was suggested out of the blue, and going by Bella's behaviour on that night, it would be easy to believe that Bella has become an entirely different person. However, Mike Newton still likes her - does Jessica like Mike? And being around someone like Lauren, who would bring out a different side of you, might make it easier to be a it rhymes with witch. It's OK for her to hold back, but she shouldn't have persuaded the others as well - that's just malevolent.

2. When the motorcycle loses power to summon Edward's voice, Bella begins to search for the meadow. Why do you think she chooses this as her next attempt to conjure his voice?

I think there are two main reasons for this. Firstly, when she visited the meadow with the Cullens, she had a fantastic time. I'm guessing she has quite a few nice memories of the vampires in the sunlight. It was a special place where she could live that part of her life and not be disturbed by an 'outsider', so to speak. Secondly, and I hope I'm remembering this correctly - was there not a face-off between the Cullens and James's coven? She may be putting herself in danger again, but this time subconsciously.

3. Bella is amazed that Jacob never gives up on pursuing her, despite rejection after rejection. She wonders where he gets the confidence. Based on what we know of Jacob, what do you think he reasons are for being so confident and not giving up?

1. I think we can all agree he was in love with her.
2. Edward was gone. There was nothing tangible in the way - he hasn't, at this point, realised how deeply the two are connected - so subconsciously it was all systems go.
3. She was vulnerable after Edward's departure. Maybe some of you think he wouldn't be this malevolent, but again, subconsciously ...
4. He was worried about her. (Yes, number 3 & 4 are possible at the same time.) This was he could take an extra interest and keep an eye on her.
5. He wanted her close. Maybe it was just supposed to be friendship, but he needed someone.

4. Bella knows that part of her will always love Edward, yet she begins to entertain the idea of Jacob being more than just a friend. Do you see this as a betrayal of her heart, or is she smart to press forward and think about moving on?

A little of both. It's very easy for the reader to sit back and condemn her, but here are a couple of points in her favour:
1. Edward has made it pretty clear that he doesn't want Bella anymore (try and see this from her point of view). Charlie has threatened to kick her out, her friends are shunning her - a boyfriend seems the easy option to solve all of these problems.
2. Jacob is already close to her heart. Who better to open up to than someone you know for sure won't hurt you intentionally? Although he can't understand fully, he's never given up on her yet.

And a couple of points against:
1. You fool! It's a romance novel! YOU'RE going to GET BACK TOGETHER!!
2. He is a werewolf. Go figure.

I have trouble with coherence. Please bear with me.

1. Jessica switches allegiance by siding with Lauren and convincing others to not go on the group outing. Do you feel that, based on Bella's actions the night of the bar incident, her reaction is justified?

Jessica can do whatever she wants and frankly, I don't care. She's superficial and I agree, Bella was a bit mental. But she still wasn't right to act like that. Oh well.

2. When the motorcycle loses power to summon Edward's voice, Bella begins to search for the meadow. Why do you think she chooses this as her next attempt to conjure his voice?

Because that's her and Edward's special place. It's as simple as that. Right?

3. Bella is amazed that Jacob never gives up on pursuing her, despite rejection after rejection. She wonders where he gets the confidence. Based on what we know of Jacob, what do you think he reasons are for being so confident and not giving up?

I think he just really loves her. And he'll wait for her. It's so sweet yet so sad.

4. Bella knows that part of her will always love Edward, yet she begins to entertain the idea of Jacob being more than just a friend. Do you see this as a betrayal of her heart, or is she smart to press forward and think about moving on?

She's lying to herself and using Jacob. She thought Edward wasn't coming back so she used Jake as a pretend Edward. I think.

I didn't think it was really justified. Bella had just started to get back to normal. It definitely didn't help that Jessica was trying to get her friends to not like her.

2. When the motorcycle loses power to summon Edward's voice, Bella begins to search for the meadow. Why do you think she chooses this as her next attempt to conjure his voice?
She was just thinking of any places she thought she'd have a chance of hearing him. The meadow seemed a likely place to her.

3. Bella is amazed that Jacob never gives up on pursuing her, despite rejection after rejection. She wonders where he gets the confidence. Based on what we know of Jacob, what do you think he reasons are for being so confident and not giving up?
Jacob is really, really attached to Bella. I think that's why he keeps going after her even after she rejects him.

4. Bella knows that part of her will always love Edward, yet she begins to entertain the idea of Jacob being more than just a friend. Do you see this as a betrayal of her heart, or is she smart to press forward and think about moving on?
I saw it as her trying to find a distraction from Edward.
