1 Well, these would be my reasons, but I think they mostly apply to her, too. Dances are loud and hurt your head. There wouldn't be much to do. I don't gossip or, I don't know, I hate dresses and I'm not into fashion (mostly because I can't stand to go shopping). I don't dance at any sort of party. I reserve all dancing for DANCE CLASS!
Anyway, it'd be so awkward, going as "friends" AND she met Edward on the first day. Wadja expect?
2 I laughed (I would have if she had said it to me, I don't take things personally...until a while after they happen) , but now that I think about it. I'm a little offended. I act like that. A lot. So I didn't pay much attention then (with my friends it's just normal to tell people that,.. we're all kind of weird.)
Anyway, after reading the whole book (which I have done many times now) He really liked to talk to her, and he didn't want to hurt her, which was really hard. And he wanted to do the right thing, the easiest way for him to do that is if she didn't want to be his friend. So he tried to be nice, and at the same time, encourage her to leave him alone. Ah, I'm having a Harry Potter vulgar language is ugly. And Ron said somebody couldn't feel so much at once. Well, anyway, it was for him NOT to reveal secrets, while being so comfortable.
I think he just wanted to do the right thing and it was really hard and that's my freaking horrible summary.
"I swore and threw some rocks into the water. Eventually wasn't soon enough."

Why do you think Bella doesn't want to go to the spring dance? She could easily just have said to anyone, "let's just go as friends". Why is it that from day one, none of the boys appealed to her?

Its not that none of the boys appealed 2 her (Edward did) i think she just didn't want to go mostly because of dancing, something she's not very good @ apparently. so she doesn't want to risk the embarassment.

Bella asks Edward if he has multiple personality disorder because he either seems to be overly friendly or sarcastic moments apart. To what did you attribute Edward's odd behavior?

hmm....thats kind of hard um im not really sure.

Why do you think Bella doesn't want to go to the spring dance? She could easily just have said to anyone, "let's just go as friends". Why is it that from day one, none of the boys appealed to her? She doesn't like dancing because she's bad at it. Plus, once she set her eyes upon Edward that first day in the cafeteria no boy would even come close to holding her attention whatsoever. Edward is beautiful, mysterious and odd which definitely appeals to Bella.

Bella asks Edward if he has multiple personality disorder because he either seems to be overly friendly or sarcastic moments apart. To what did you attribute Edward's odd behavior? He is not human so his social graces are far from normal. In his world they speak their mind freely not hiding any ideas face blank. Of course after time he regains his human side of feelings and not always saying what you want when you want but hiding some things when necessary. He is defrosting from his cold straight faced facade letting some warmth come through thanks to Bella. He is almost alien not in tune with human feelings but slowly comes around to his human instincts that were buried for 90 years. Plus he wants to kill Bella but then turns around and wants to keep her safe from everyone else. That's a complete 360 switch back and forth, back and forth.
Emmett grinned. "Fall down again, Bella?" I glared at him fiercely. "No, Emmett. I punched a werewolf in the face." Emmett blinked, and then burst into a roar of laughter.

Bella is accident prone, and for some reason does not like being the center of attention. If she were to go to the dance she would inevitably hurt herself in some way and then become the center of attention. Also, Bella honestly has no attraction to the other boys (besides Edward). Because of her sincere and caring heart she doesn't want to lead any of them on, so she most refuse them all.

Bella asks Edward if he has multiple personality disorder because he either seems to be overly friendly or sarcastic moments apart. To what did you attribute Edward's odd behavior?

Edward, with every fiber of his being is intrigued by Bella. He wants to know what she's thinking why she thinks it and anything else he can find out about her. Yet, he knows he is also a dangerous person, that could hurt her terribly. He knows that it is better to leave her alone, but he is plagued by wanting to be with her which is only made worse by her obvious interest in him. He is torn between what he feels is right and what he really wants which causes his mood shifts and very odd behavior.

First of all, shes a klutz, so a school dance would be about as appetizing as pig liver. I don't think anyone she knows would go with her as a friend and mean it. All of the boys would go hoping they could weasel it into something more. Another reason the men of Forks (or anywhere) don't appeal to her is that she is used to being ignored, so naturally she finds the attention obnoxious. She's holding out for someone who really takes her by surprise, not someone who seems convenient for the moment. Also as a literary tool Bella not accepting any boys' advances makes her more appealing. But I don't think Meyer was going after that when she wrote this.

Bella asks Edward if he has multiple personality disorder because he either seems to be overly friendly or sarcastic moments apart. To what did you attribute Edward's odd behavior?
He actually has a dual personality, he's a Gemini (which I find utterly hilarious). Anyway, his two sides are the human side that wants to love Bella and the animal side that wants to rip her throat out. But not in a bad way. :) He struggles with these two halves throughout most of the book, his animal side is ready to come out as soon as he lets his guard down, so his more human side has to keep itself in check every minute. His odd behavior can be attributed to this, when he's being kind and gentle to Bella he is showing his human side. When he snaps and says grumbling things he's trying to keep the animal inside.

I think that Bella is insecure about herself. She thinks she's too clumsy, not pretty enough, etc. I think she doesn't want to make a fool out of herself on the dance floor b/c of her clumsiness. I think that her parents failed marriage and Renee's constant harping about falling in love/marrying young makes Bella wary of boys and relationships. Bella is afraid to get close to a boy b/c of what Renee has been pounding into her head all these years. Bella still wouldn't have gone to the dance on a "friends" level w/a boy b/c she wouldn't want to embarrass herself. However, I think from day one, one boy appealed to her ... Edward.

Bella asks Edward if he has multiple personality disorder because he either seems to be overly friendly or sarcastic moments apart. To what did you attribute Edward's odd behavior?
Typical teenage boy hormones/mood swings! Plus, it is difficult to want something and not be able to have it!!!!

Chapter Four: Invitations

1. Why do you think Bella doesn't want to go to the spring dance? She could easily just have said to anyone, "let's just go as friends". Why is it that from day one, none of the boys appealed to her?

-Well, first of all, it is mentioned that Bella is such a klutz. She probably didn't want to go to the dance so she wouldn't humiliate herself in front of the other 357 kids in the school. She doesn't do well in sports either, and just like dancing, she's going to save herself from major embarassment. The reason I'm seeing why none of the boys appealed to her is because she's afraid that she might end up having the same relationship as Renee and Charlie. Ever since she was a child, she saw first hand that her parents were not together, and that she had to be passed on to one or the other because their marriage didn't work out. A kid who grows up having to live in that kind of situation would of course think that the same thing might happen to herself. She probably didn't want to get attached to anyone here in Forks, so she wouldn't experience the pain of having to be separated from that one person you thought you could live forever with. And besides, on the very first day she met Edward, he was all she could ever think about, no matter how much she didn't want to, nor understand the reason why.

2.Bella asks Edward if he has multiple personality disorder because he either seems to be overly friendly or sarcastic moments apart. To what did you attribute Edward's odd behavior?
-Edward has a double personality. There's this part of him that deeply loves Bella, and we could see that when he saved her from Tyler's moving van and he asks her to join him when he eats lunch. This is like his 'human' part coming out, because for the first time, he's learning to 'love' someone who wasn't like them, although at first he didn't want to admit it. There's also this other part of him that comes out, which is his 'vampire' part, because he has this longing thirst to just drink Bella's blood. He could've easily taken her life away the first time their eyes locked, but he has been resisting her, which shows here that his 'love' overpowers his vampire characteristics. Bella wasn't like any other girl Edward has seen or met before, and sometimes he is willing to go far to even give her the slightest hint of what he really is without giving it away. Although he knows that he is risking of exposing his whole family to the people of Forks, he tries to warn Bella by being sarcastic at times because he knows that at anytime he could snap and easily take her.

She mentions that she is so clumsy and I guess wanted to spare herself some embarassment. Also I think that none of the boys appealed to her because she wasnt used to having boys act like 'Retrievers' around her. Also she was very facinated by Edward to notice them lol.

At first I really didnt know what to think about it. but of course I linked it to his being a vampire.

I think she didn't want to go to the spring dance 1: because she is clumsy 2: she doesn't handle social situations very well. I think none of the boys appealed to her because she wasn't used to the attention and that maybe they just wanted her because she was new meat.

Bella in general.

1. I can relate to how Bella didn't want to go to the dance. Personally, I'd much rather stay home myself. But I did think her clumsiness wasn't really a good enough reason to not want to go. At dances, everyone is always stepping over each other and falling-its normal. As for not being attracted to the boys, she said earlier that she wasn't comfortable expressing her feelings, so maybe she wasn't comfortable being in romantic relationships and didn't want to get involved with anyone.

2. I didnt attribute it to anything. I was just as much confused as she was.
"I was with Edward in my happy place."
