Why do you think Bella doesn't want to go to the spring dance? She could easily just have said to anyone, "let's just go as friends". Why is it that from day one, none of the boys appealed to her?

I guess she didn't want to go because she wouldn't have really enjoyed it or something like that.

Bella asks Edward if he has multiple personality disorder because he either seems to be overly friendly or sarcastic moments apart. To what did you attribute Edward's odd behavior?

I thought he was just nervous about being around her.

I think she's very self-conscious, first and foremost. Dancing is way out of her comfort zone...plus, it was "girl's choice". That first day, she noticed Edward, and since she's so intuitive, she notices the differences between him and the other boys. She thought Mike was cut, but he wasn't mysterious like Edward...he wasn't a puzzle to figure out. I think she enjoyed that part of it. Plus, this is after Edward's remarkable feat of saving her life by doing something "superhuman". No regular teenage boy could live up to Edward.

I just thought he didn't know how to approach her....that there was some reason he was hiding something from her.

Bella doesn't seemed boy crazed like other girls her age, and isn't currently looking for a guy. She's also busy thinking about Edward all the time.

I thought the same thing as well.

I thought Bella was being nice. She can't dance, and she thought she would utterly bore whoever she went with and give them the wrong impression. I also thought that she didn't like being around lots of people. I think none of the boys appealed to her, just because she didn't connect to them at a deeper level...plus. Her mind was rather distracted....:D

It's obvious he's undergoing some sort of internal dillema and some sort of feud with his family. I thought he just kept switching his mind between what was proper and what he wanted. Trying to be self-sacrificing, like Bella, but not doing such a good job :D

That line at the end "But I'm tired of trying to stay away from you, Bella" literally made my heart stop. That's the moment I fell in love with the series.

1. Obviously, Bella doesn't want to embarrass herself with a public display of her poor dancing skills. As for the boys: A. they were practically throwing themselves at her *coughMikecough*, every girl likes a bit of mystery  B. She didn't connect with any of them and none of them were interesting (Edward on the other hand...)
2. I thought it was just a "vampire thing" (I never stopped reading for long enough to really think about it the first time through)
