1. Alice tells Bella that the family will do what it takes to protect her because no one wants to look at Edward for the next century should Bella die. How do you feel about this line now that you have read New Moon and know exactly how Edward would react were Bella ever to die?
I think the Cullens would have never recovered had they lost Bella, because they would have lost Edward too. I think they would go the rest of their days thinking they could have done more to save Bella (and also Edward).

2. Jasper talks more in this chapter than any other chapter. What things do we learn about his character from the way he reacts to Bella? Were you ever afraid of him during this chapter?
I learned that Jasper is a very private person, who has the capacity to be very loving and trusting. But, I also learned that he knows his limits. he knows he can't get as close to Bella, physically, as the others.

3. This is the first time we learn that the vampires are venomous. What was your reaction to this news and did it make you think twice about the fact that Edward had kissed Bella?
I was surprised to learn that they are venomous. I didn't second guess Edward kissing Bella, but it did make me realize why he would never do anything more than peck her on the lips.

4. Why do you suppose Edward has been so adamant about not telling Bella how someone becomes a vampire?
Because he doesn't want to run the risk of her finding out how to do it, teaching another vampire how to do it, and losing her humanity.

5. Alice has a vision of the dance studio and the proceeds to question Bella about any reasons why she might go there. It seems to me that Alice saw Bella at the studio. Why didnt Alice clear this up for Bella by explaining to her that she shouldn't go to the studio?
I think she knew that Bella had already made her mind up, and so she was making plans around the fact that Bella would already be there. It also seems possible that she saw Bella there, but did not see the damage James would do to her, since James may not have decided to hurt her that badly at the time Alice had the vision.

1. Alice tells Bella that the family will do what it takes to protect her because no one wants to look at Edward for the next century should Bella die. How do you feel about this line now that yu have read New Moon and know exactly how Edward would react were Bella ever to die?
I think it's exactly what Bella needed to hear. That she's the most important individual to Edward and therefore the most important to the Cullen family and worth protecting with their lives.

2. Jasper talks more in this chapter than any other chapter. What things do we learn about his character from the way he reacts to Bella? Were you ever afraid of him during this chapter?
I was never afraid of Jasper here. He seemed to be very careful with Bella and willing to ease her distress, but never threatening.

3. This is the frist time we learn that the vampires are venomous. What was your reaction to this news and did it make you think twice about the fact that Edward had kissed Bella?
Yes, it did. I wondered if he'd accidentally slipped some in. LOL!

4. Why do you suppose Edward has been so adamant about not telling Bella how someone becomes a vampire?
I still think he didn't want the knowledge/fear of the transformation to change her mind from eventually chosing to become a vampire.

5. Alice has a vision of the dance studio and the proceeds to question Bella about any reasons why she might go there. It seems to me that Alice saw Bella at the studio. Why didnt Alice cler this up for Bella by explaining to her that she shouldn't go to the studio?
Yes, I agree, I did think it odd that Alice didn't prevent Bella from trying to escape and going to the studio, but maybe Alice saw something further in the future that she didn't reveal. OR maybe she knew that once Edward was in Phoenix that he could get to and protect Bella before James hurt her. I can only imagine the fury Edward showed when racing through Phoenix to get to Bella.

1. Alice tells Bella that the family will do what it takes to protect her because no one wants to look at Edward for the next century should Bella die. How do you feel about this line now that yu have read New Moon and know exactly how Edward would react were Bella ever to die?

Well, Bella is sort of a member of the family already. They appreciate her very much because with her Edward seems to be happier than ever before. Nobody wants Edward to fall into misery, so they all help to protect Bella in order to make Edward happy. I am not sure if they know what exactly Edward would do if he lost Bella but maybe they can guess that he woulnd't want to live without her.

2. Jasper talks more in this chapter than any other chapter. What things do we learn about his character from the way he reacts to Bella? Were you ever afraid of him during this chapter?

I wasn't afraid of him. I thought he was rather nice and caring. Jasper is very careful towards Bella and he certainly has his reason. Nevertheless he is trying to help as much as he can to ease her misery a bit.

3. This is the frist time we learn that the vampires are venomous. What was your reaction to this news and did it make you think twice about the fact that Edward had kissed Bella?

It made me think a bit but I was very sure that Edward would have been extra careful in the moments he kissed Bella. He would never want to endanger her that way.

4. Why do you suppose Edward has been so adamant about not telling Bella how someone becomes a vampire?

He doesn't want her to know because he does not want her to become one. Maybe he just thinks it would bother her more than it should if she knew how the transformation works.

5. Alice has a vision of the dance studio and the proceeds to question Bella about any reasons why she might go there. It seems to me that Alice saw Bella at the studio. Why didnt Alice cler this up for Bella by explaining to her that she shouldn't go to the studio?

I am not sure whether Alice really saw Bella in the studio. Maybe she only saw the studio because it was in James' mind. But even if she saw Bella there, telling Bella not to go there wouldn't have been successful.

1. Alice tells Bella that the family will do what it takes to protect her because no one wants to look at Edward for the next century should Bella die. How do you feel about this line now that yu have read New Moon and know exactly how Edward would react were Bella ever to die?

I think she might have underestimated Edward's love for Bella. Did she seriously think he would go on living?

2. Jasper talks more in this chapter than any other chapter. What things do we learn about his character from the way he reacts to Bella? Were you ever afraid of him during this chapter?

I didn't really learn that much about him. I thought he was really sweet, though. After all, it was extra hard for him being around her, seeing as he was the newest to being a vegetarian.

3. This is the frist time we learn that the vampires are venomous. What was your reaction to this news and did it make you think twice about the fact that Edward had kissed Bella?

It didn't really surprise me, knowing that other carnivores are poisonous as well. It didn't occur to me that it could be dangerous to Bella, I guess I didn't think that far.

4. Why do you suppose Edward has been so adamant about not telling Bella how someone becomes a vampire?

I suppose he doesn't want her to know the darker details on being a vampire. He's still scared she will run from him, right? It makes sense not wanting to scare her more than necessary. Besides, he wouldn't want to give her any ideas...

5. Alice has a vision of the dance studio and then proceeds to question Bella about any reasons why she might go there. It seems to me that Alice saw Bella at the studio. Why didn't Alice clear this up for Bella by explaining to her that she shouldn't go to the studio?

When Alice has this vision, Bella hasn't decided to go to the studio yet. Therefore, Alice couldn't possibly have known she would go there voluntarily.

Well...They wouldn't have to put up with him for the next century if Bella did die, that's for sure, but I guess his death would be harder on them than that lol. I don't think Bella understood how important she was not only to Edward but all the Cullens until the scenario actually comes up in New Moon.

2. Jasper talks more in this chapter than any other chapter. What things do we learn about his character from the way he reacts to Bella? Were you ever afraid of him during this chapter?
Even though I knew that he was probably the most likely of all of them to lose control and kill a human, he didn't frighten me. Maybe it's the fact that he has the ability to calm an entire room, or maybe it's that he is willing to endanger himself to keep Bella safe, and therefore keep his brother happy and his family together. I love Jasper :)

3. This is the first time we learn that the vampires are venomous. What was your reaction to this news and did it make you think twice about the fact that Edward had kissed Bella?
I'm not sure about my reaction. It seemed the most logical way that someone would be turned into a vampire. I didn't think about it in terms of kissing though, until I read the question about it on the PC

4. Why do you suppose Edward has been so adamant about not telling Bella how someone becomes a vampire?
He didn't want her to know about how to become a vampire because he knew Alice had seen Bella as part of their family.

5. Alice has a vision of the dance studio and the proceeds to question Bella about any reasons why she might go there. It seems to me that Alice saw Bella at the studio. Why didn't Alice clear this up for Bella by explaining to her that she shouldn't go to the studio?
Maybe she thought that if it was obvious they were trying to keep her from going, Bella would just be more tempted to find a way to go there. But I think what Alice saw there was just James in the room the first time, waiting for Bella. In my opinion, I don't think she saw Bella there until the second vision she had of it, but she knew the first time that Bella would be in danger if she went there, so she just wanted to clarify that Bella would have no reason to go to the dance studio.

They know that Bella and Edward are going to be with each other for all eternity, so they have to keep that statement true..Bella dying isn't exactly the way to do that.

2. Jasper talks more in this chapter than any other chapter. What things do we learn about his character from the way he reacts to Bella? Were you ever afraid of him during this chapter?
I wasn't afraid of him...he knew that his instinct was that she was just a human, but I think he realized his brother's feelings for her, and held back..and realized that it was serious.

3. This is the frist time we learn that the vampires are venomous. What was your reaction to this news and did it make you think twice about the fact that Edward had kissed Bella?
It got me alittle confused, but I knew they had to have venom, just how it didn't affect Bella...but it wasn't direct contact, so I guess it's safe...it didn't surprise me though about the venom.

4. Why do you suppose Edward has been so adamant about not telling Bella how someone becomes a vampire?
He doesn't want her to know how, because he doesn't want her to have to go through with that...but he knows it has to happen anyway.

5. Alice has a vision of the dance studio and the proceeds to question Bella about any reasons why she might go there. It seems to me that Alice saw Bella at the studio. Why didnt Alice cler this up for Bella by explaining to her that she shouldn't go to the studio?
She saw Bella there, which may have meant that there was no stopping her...if she believed her mother was there, she knew Bella would go instinctively, so she didn't bother.

1. Alice tells Bella that the family will do what it takes to protect her because no one wants to look at Edward for the next century should Bella die. How do you feel about this line now that you have read New Moon and know exactly how Edward would react were Bella ever to die?

I think that part of the' intensity, if you will, of this statement comes from the fact that Stephenie has said that vampires fall in love differently. I don't know about that whole topic, so I can't really say, but I understood why they were so determined to keep Bella safe.

2. Jasper talks more in this chapter than any other chapter. What things do we learn about his character from the way he reacts to Bella? Were you ever afraid of him during this chapter?

I always liked Jasper'"ever since I first 'met him'"and so I was ecstatic that he was talking more. I am always just wanting to unravel the mystery that is Jasper Hale, and while this just gave me more questions, I was still excited to get more out of him.

3. This is the first time we learn that the vampires are venomous. What was your reaction to this news and did it make you think twice about the fact that Edward had kissed Bella?

I was wondering about the kiss'"and eating the pizza after him for that matter'"when I found this out, but then I wasn't worried, because I knew that if it posed any threat to Bella, Edward wouldn't have kissed her or let her eat the pizza.

4. Why do you suppose Edward has been so adamant about not telling Bella how someone becomes a vampire?

He wants to shield her from that, mainly because he doesn't want that life for her. He loves her humanity, and he wouldn't do anything that would put that in danger' knowingly'

5. Alice has a vision of the dance studio and the proceeds to question Bella about any reasons why she might go there. It seems to me that Alice saw Bella at the studio. Why didn't Alice clear this up for Bella by explaining to her that she shouldn't go to the studio?

I don't think that Alice thought Bella was intending to sacrifice herself in the way Bella tried, so Alice thought that it would probably be a mistake on her and Jasper's part that Bella got there. So she wasn't blaming Bella. And also because she probably thought that she could keep Bella from there if she needed to.

1. Erm, well... I don't think they would be looking at Edward if he was dead.

2. Jasper is very calm in this chapter... he seems different. I wasn't afraid of him, I like Jasper.

3. My reaction: Oh. Nice. Then I kept reading. I was still trying to remember what superfluous meant.

4. Probably because he doesn't want her to become one.

5. I didn't think she did see Bella at the studio until Bella decided to go there... and if she did, then maybe she was hoping that either Bella or James would change their mind.

Rosalie didn't realise - She thought it was just a passing thing for Edward; she thought he'd forget with time. I read Miscalulation http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/nm_extras ... lation.pdf on Stephanie's website, and it really intrigued me. I pretty much thought the same as she did before I read about Edward's "contingency plans" in New Moon.

I think Alice is also missing something out - the family (or most of them at least) have really come to accept Bella as a part of the 'family'. Emmett says (is it in Eclipse?) that he's glad Edward didn't kill Bella, because it's a lot more fun with her around!

I have trouble with coherence. Please bear with me.

That there would be no Edward to look at if Bella had died.

2. Jasper talks more in this chapter than any other chapter. What things do we learn about his character from the way he reacts to Bella? Were you ever afraid of him during this chapter?

He doesn't know how to treat her and tries to be kind as Edward wanted.

3. This is the frist time we learn that the vampires are venomous. What was your reaction to this news and did it make you think twice about the fact that Edward had kissed Bella?

Yes, I thought about Edward kissing Bella. Aside from the temptation, there was also the danger of the venom.

4. Why do you suppose Edward has been so adamant about not telling Bella how someone becomes a vampire?

Because she would be full of questions to ask to him if he explained that.

5. Alice has a vision of the dance studio and the proceeds to question Bella about any reasons why she might go there. It seems to me that Alice saw Bella at the studio. Why didnt Alice cler this up for Bella by explaining to her that she shouldn't go to the studio?

Because she didn't see her intentions. She thought that James would do whatever to kill Bella.
