Favorite lines

Post by Alphie »

I've stated my favorite line even time I talk to someone about the book. I was just wondering what everyone else's favorite lines were.

Oh yeah... mine is "You. Are. Not. Leaving. Me."

For me, it's definately "I held you in my hand, Wanderer. And you were so beautiful." SO romantic!

I'm with Alphie.

"You. Are. Not. Leaving. Me."

It was just one of many times that I sobbed.

my other favorite was from Jared to Mel in the memory.

"Don't worry, Mel. Miracles don't work that way. I'll never lose you. I'll never let you get away from me." *sobs*

There were so many lines and paragraphs there were extremely moving, it's hard to pick only a few!

My favorite quote

Post by edwardsheroine287 »

My favorite quote is in the last page of the book:

"Looks like I'm not the only one who's gone native."

By the way I was there yesterday, and Stephenie is the most charming, wonderful, commenting person I've ever met! Afterwards, I was just like "Did I just talk to Stephenie Meyer?" And my BFF was like, "Oh my God we just did!" Be ready, people in the future. She is so amazing, there are no words to describe her!!

I don't know about favorite line, but my absolute favorite part would have to be when Wanda giggles at the end. I can't tell you why that's my favorite part but that struck me to the core for some odd reason. It's like the first moment of Ian and Wanda as a true couple or something. . . . That's really not a good way to explain it, I just can't think of the words that I want. Grr.

I have a few favourite quotes;

"Does he not feel the fire between his body & mine? Is that all me? How can it be all me? It feels like a flat sun trapped between us -- pressed like a flower between the pages of a thick book, burning the paper" page 75, The Host by Stephenie Meyer.

"Get your mind out of the gutter. It's your mind I reminded her." p.327 The Host by Stephenie Meyer

"With Ian it was different, so very different, because Melanie didn't love him the way I did. So when he touched me, it was deeper and slower than the wildfire, like the flow of molten rock far beneath the surface of the Earth. Too deep to feel the heat of it, but it moved inexorably, changing the very foundations of the world with its advance.
My unwilling body was a fog between us-a thick curtain, but gauzy enough that I could see through it, could see what was happening.
It changed me, not her. It was an almost metallurgical process deep inside the core of who I was, soothing that had already begun, was already nearly forget. But this long unfinished kiss finished it, searing and sharp edged -- it shoved this new creation, all hissing into the cold water that made it hard and final. Unbreakable.
And I started to cry again, realising that it must be changing him too, this man who was kind enough to be a soul but strong as only a human could be." Page 573 The Host by Stephenie Meyer

" Ian squeezed my hand and leaned in to whisper through all the hair. His
voice was so low that I was the only one who could hear. "I held you in my
hand, Wanderer. And you were so beautiful." " p. 603 The Host by Stephenie

If I had to pick one, it would have to be "You. Will. Not. Leave. Me." Who doesn't want to hear something like that from the guy you love? I personally think it's one of the best lines Stephenie has written. So simple, but so beautiful.

A close second is "I held you in my hand, Wanderer. And you were so beautiful."

"Jared is my past, another life. You are my present."
"And your future, if you want that."
"Yes, please."
Wanda and Ian, of course.

I do love the "Good or bad?" moments. I just found the whole lip-between-the-teeth thing with Ian just... very hot. *fans self with hand*

This wasn't particularly in a riveting line kind of way, but I love it:

"Ian sat with me for three days in the darkness.
He left for only a few short minutes at a time, to get us food and water. At first, Ian ate, though I did not. Then, as he realized that it wasn't a loss of appetite that left my tray full, he stopped eating, too."

Ian's just so... devoted to her.

This cracked me up: "Who's got the crush on a worm, bro? You going to call me stupid?" From Kyle, of course.

And this:

Jared: Jealous, O'Shea?
Ian: Actually... I am. Surprisingly so.

Wanderer: Eight full lives, eight full lives and I never found anyone I would stay on a planet for, anyone I would follow when they left. I never found a partner. Why now? Why you? You're not one of my species. How can you be my partner?
Ian: It's a strange universe.

Wanderer: I love you.
Ian: Don't say that like you're saying goodbye.
Wanderer: I, the soul called Wanderer, love you, human Ian. And that will never change, no matter what I might become. If I were a Dolphin or a Bear or a Flower, it wouldn't matter. I will always love you, always remember you. You will be my only partner.

And, of course.

"'Good or bad?' he demanded.
'That's what I thought.' And his voice was a growl."

Oh. My. Gosh.

Let's face it. Ian has most of the best lines in the book.
I'd like to say that my username is sarcastic, but that would be a mild lie. Mild, but a lie.

I love all the ones posted here, but I'll add some more:

"What are you staring at, Wanda?"
Jared's questions wasn't anxious, because I was smiling softly at the surprising scene.
"Something I've never seen in all my lives. I'm staring at... hope."

"You never know how much time you'll have."

"I have to go, Sunny, just like you. I have to give my body back, too."
And then, flat and hard from right behind us, Ian's voice broke the quiet like the crack of a whip.

Ah that whole chapter with Ian was so amazing! ^^ And I love all the good bad parts.

"Then why aren't we with him?"
"Because he's probably a bit young to watch this kind of thing"

That made me crack up.

"Kyle's head is harder than any rock in this place"

"How about by yours? In my species, I am the one that bears young. Is that not female enough for you?"

I loved this line! I loved Wanda so much more after this.

"She is quite capable of responding to physical contact," Jared informed him, his tone suddenly sober again. "She's human enough for that. Or her body is, anyway."

I'll always like Jared better than Ian, but after this, I felt really sorry for him, because Jared is obviously in love with Mel, not Wanda, but Ian loves Wanda.

"I'm warning you, Mel," Jared said, still smiling widely. Teasing. "You better stay right here. I'm not making any guarantees about what I will or won't do to get you back."

Proving my point up there^
""You don't believe me, do you?" he whispered, his face paler than his usual pale-I could see that even in the dim light. "Why can you believe the lie, but not the truth?" "It never made sense for you to love me," I explained, my voice breaking twice. "I always knew that." His eyes narrowed, his jaw tightened. "I'll prove you're awake," he promised." - Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, New Moon.
