The Ending

Wanda's new body does not change the way Ian looks at her or understands her in my head. Maybe he doesn't let her do as much because of it but do you really think he would have let her do those things as Mel?? I don't. He's like Edward with Bella. The end was unexpected to me. But it really makes me think. Will Wanda like the new soul more than Ian because he's her kind??

I see where a lot of you are coming from on the whole "it's not as powerful" deal, but it wasn't like that for me. I mean, think about it. All these strong characters, that loved her and wanted her; do you honestly believe they wouldn't fight and do whatever it takes to get her back? Especially Ian and Melanie. I would have thought the book untrue to the characters if they didn't find some way of keeping her *you know, the human being selfish and all * I don't know, I just think I was trusted, no matter how much I cried, that Ian and Melanie and even Jamie would not try the most atrocious thing just to get her back

^^ yeah they wanted her back. doc was going to do what she really wanted him to do, but it says in the book someone (i think ian) had a knife to doc's throat, so he really had no choice but to save her

The host ended just like I wanted it to end. I kind of felt that they weren't going to let Wanderer die, but I wasn't sure how. Doc's seemed to be very true to his word, and he wouldn't betray a promise. I just wish they would have found a stronger body for her, this one seems kind of fragile, weak.

^^ yeah i agree, but they choose that body for a reason. like you want to protect it, it's easy to trust, etc. good for when they go on raids

I was glad that Wanderer got the new body. I wish she could have gotten a stronger body but that's just me. At the very end when their group met the other group I kept wondering if the other soul would get mad once he learned that Wanderer tought the humans how to remove a soul from it's host. Any comments on that?

I was happy that Ian finally got Wanderer to himself and Jared got Melanie.

Oh! Was that answered in an interview or something? I'm glad. The way she described the body being dwarfed by Ian and how she was prone to giggling and being hyper made me think she was much, much younger. kind of hard getting jiggy with the love for Ian when you're picturing him as a pedophile. Seriously...

If Burns were just as sympathetic to the humans as Wanderer, I don't think he would be upset. But it did take Wanderer a long time to trust Doc with the secret, so who knows.

Is anyone else a bit confused about the Kyle/Sunny situation? With my understanding of Kyle's character, I would have thought he'd blame Sunny for losing Jody forever. What do you guys think?

I was kind of bummed about the fact that Wanderer was put in such a fragile body because in my mind she is such a strong soul. Its hard not to still picture her as Melanie. But, Im glad that Jared and Melanie ended up together. I know a lot of people were upset that it wasn't Jared and Wanda, but you have to realize that Mel and Jared are meant to be. He lived, seeing her body plainly within reach of him for so long, trying to push the feelings down and now finally, he can speak to her and Melanie, and only Melanie, will reply.

As for Ian and Wanda, they are amazing. The way Ian said I held you in my hand and you were beautiful gave me butterflies. That is true love. And at the end when he says he never ever had any attraction towards Melanie's body without Wanderer in it proves what he loves her.

This book was absolutely amazing.

Well, I think that Kyle still sees Jodi at times. Its hard for him to come to peace with the fact that she isnt in that body [at the moment anyway] and I think he's just happy to at least have her body. And I think seeing Sunny cry in Jodi's body had an effect on Kyle. Those eyes pouring with tears were Jodi's eyes which he had looked into to so many times. That created a softness towards Sunny that Kyle hadn't shown to anyone else. He truly cares for her. For example the way he holds her cryotank and wont let it go.

I also think on the whole Kyle/Sunny thing that SM was trying to show how Wanda has had an effect on everyone. I think knowing Wanda allowed Kyle to get over his hatred a little bit, at least enough for him to allow the love he felt for Jodi to move to Sunny in Jodi's body.

I thought the ending was sooo sweet. Of course, I was crying my eyes out over the blank pages (and I was on a plane... people were staring and my Aunt was just beginning to read it was completely startled0- she was sitting next to me). But when she came alive again, I rejoiced!! I thought the epilogue was the best epilogue that she has written. I wasn't actually that surprised when they ran into other people (throughout the entire book I was saying to myself, "Okay- they are obviously not the last people on earth. When are they going to find others?" I was surprised with Burns, however. I hope we hear more about him in the sequels (which I'm praying she writes).

I really liked the ending, and I actually predicted some of it. Not to say it was predictable. I wasn't quite sure whether Wanderer would die or not. When I saw "Remembered" I though it was going to be Melanie talking, and then about remembering Wanderer. Some observations:

1) SM had Wanderer want to save Melanie by killing herself to use some of the altruism she hasn't been able to have Bella exhibit.

2) I knew that Melanie and Ian and the others wouldn't let Wanderer die because SM wanted to show another distinction between selfless souls and selfish humans.

3) When Wanderer started talking about killing herself I was thinking to myself, "Why don't you just find a body where the original mind isn't present anymore?"

I was actually surprised by them meeting other humans, Burns especially. I am so curious about Burns! I don't think he's a double agent because he's saved Nate's life, as he said, and they're best friends. And remember how they were willing to shoot another human who would potentially freak out at Burns?

And am I the only person who thinks the "I held you in my hand. . ." line is really weird? It makes me cringe. Sweet, I guess, in a way, but ugh. Jared and Melanie all the way.
